Do you really need that? [W:99]

The closest it gets is stating that a well organized militia is a necessity to the security of a free State.

This is where people get confused about the whole "Well regulated militia" portion of the 2nd A. As it reads in the Bill of Rights state is spelled with a lower case "s". The state dictated is the state of being free, not the State you live in being a free one. The Founders stated that in order for the People to remain in a state of freedom they may need to form militias the fight against a tyrannical government. If the Founders had only made the Federalist Papers binding documents the socialists wouldn't be able to twist crap around to fit their agenda.

Let's see if he's correct...The history of mass shootings in the U.S. | HeraldNet.com - Nation/World

According to his research, he has identified 156 mass public shootings in the United States in the past 100 years.

Duwe defines a mass public shooting as an incident in which four or more victims are killed publicly with guns within 24 hours -- in the workplace, schools, restaurants and other public places - excluding shootings in connection with crimes such as robbery, drugs or gangs. (Note that this would exclude a number of "mass murders" that sometimes get lumped into the data, such as the sniper who killed 10 people over a three-week period in the Washington region in 2002.)

Since 2005, when the assault ban expired, there have been 32 such mass public shootings, including seven in 2012, Duwe said. So that's just over 20 percent of all mass public shootings, which is much less than Clinton's 50 percent.

Oops, guess the ex-President was slightly off in his calculations. Oh well, we can't all be perfect. :)

 I agree! That was the Framers original intention. What do you mean by 'If the Founders had only made the Federalist Papers binding documents the socialists wouldn't be able to twist crap around to fit their agenda.'?

LOL Thats a new twist I haven't heard before. Meh, but I don't think so.

"...There are several versions of the text of the Second Amendment, each with capitalization or punctuation differences. Differences exist between the drafted and ratified copies, the signed copies on display, and various published transcriptions. The importance (or lack thereof) of these differences has been the source of debate regarding the meaning and interpretation of amendment, particularly regarding the importance of the prefatory clause.

As passed by the Congress and preserved in the National Archives:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State:

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The original hand-written copy of the Bill of Rights, approved by the House and Senate, was prepared by scribe William Lambert and resides in the National Archives...."

Whether it's capitalized or not, it's still about state militias.

Second Amendment to the United States Constitution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Whether it's capitalized or not, it's still about state militias.

sadly for you and others who pretend that the second amendment only vests when one joins a state militia (if you don't have preexisting arms you cannot be much use to a muster), the body of the constitution and the tenth amendment don't provide any support for the belief that the founders intended the federal government to regulate private possession of small arms

This has been debunked so many times. Even the SCOTUS admits it's not about "just the militia" and I will concede they know a hell of allot more than you or I about it.

if the state's right argument was valid, the Lautenberg amendment would not have been held to allow the federal government to disarm state troopers and state national guard members retroactively for having domestic violence convictions. When courts ruled that it could, the rulings admitted the 2A was about an individual right that could be lost by criminal activity. If it was a state right, then the federal government could not tell say Ohio that Ohio NG members could not bear arms while serving the state

Sorry for the call out but I just made that stuff up about state of being free to see how fast someone would agree w/o researching it. Under an hour, the fastest so from pulling one of these. Don't follow, Lead.

Bill of Rights

State IS capitalized.

This is the problem w/ the antis. THIS is what we need to stop doing. Leave it to the left to make crap up to fit their agenda because we don't need to, we have the Constitution to back us up as long as we don't spin.

As for Moot, the whole reason behind the 2nd A was so the people could be thumbed under by the Governments Army. The government was never supposed to have a large standing army.
I don't spend a lot of time debating the meaning of the 2nd A with Socialist anti-freedomers. I prefer to educate those who need to know and are willing to learn like our friend chuck. The socialist anti-freedomers will never admit the true meaning of the 2nd A no matter how much proof you show them.

P.S. If I ever post something like the whole "State of being free" thing again and I don't post links or something to back it, watch out and research it yourself because I love calling people out for the simple reason that misinformation is ruining our Great Nation.

Here moot, just 4 U.

I moved out in 1981. You remember what the economy was in 1981? It was crap.
I was 18 and an adult.

No. I wasn't alive ;) lol. My dad and mother moved out around then though (both married). He was in debt for school for 15 or so years. I am trying to avoid debt. I am going to have to take out a loan for grad school anyway, but I want to have the debt be rather low :)

My ex sister in law is a lawyer in Jacksonville. She graduated from Florida Law in about 1992. She is still paying back loans.
But she has been on her own since getting out of highschool. And now bought the firm she has been working at.

I really dont think I need gun advice or anyother advice from a loser and liar like Bill Clinton.
Remember, he is protected round the clock by men with assault weapons with 30 round mags.

Bottom line is you never know when you go somewhere you will need to protect your or someone else's life. Hopefully you never will.

But if you do, good luck to those of you who go unprepared.

And wear something that suggests you are anti gun, something like an Obama t shirt so those of us who are armed know who not to help. The last thing I want is my carry pistol in an evidence locker because I saved a liberal.

Hey man. Ask any financial adviser. Debt is bad. No such thing as "good debt." I've gotten along so far without debt. If I can take it till I get into grad school I will. ;)

I will remind her of that next time I see her in her drop top Benz pulling out of her driveway from her two story house in Neptune Beach.

I'm happy to hear she is doing so well. Unfortunately she is a rare exception (don't know the stats on just what percentage do as well as she has) but the schools and student loan industry falsely projects that kind of success as though it was the norm. They don't care about the student's future so long as they have another fish on the hook.

I have a friend who built an RV out of an old school bus (complete with a small wood burning stove for heat) and lived in it thru college. He made it thru without student debt since he worked and paid as he went with very low overhead. Not a bad idea IMO. Student loans are the next toxic asset. How many are holding out on getting their first job after graduating to avoid repayment until they land their dream job? I think that was the whole idea behind letting people stay on their parents' insurance until they are 26. It prevents new graduates from rising up en masse against the loan industry. They can crawl back in to Mom and Dad's basement and lose a couple of years to video games and facebook, putting them to sleep politically and ensuring their democrat votes to keep the benefits coming.

Lets see, oh yea, its called hard work.
Started in the Duval County Public Defenders Office. Got schooled every day by more experienced lawyers and prosecutors till she saw how the game was played.
Got into private practice then into insurance law. Not the ambulance chaser type. Corporate level, now is owner of the firm.
All while dealing with a blindingly painful benign brain tumor.
If you LET things stand in front of you, you will fail.

I completely understand that. I started off at 18 as a tire changer and worked my was thru auto mechanics to the top level of certification and then opened my own business. But that is very rare. Kind of reminds me of the skit on SNL where "Sarah Palin" was explaining that in order to be the first female President you just have to want it more and "Hillary" is about to blow a gasket. If all it took was hard work anybody could do it, right? Thing is not everybody has the suds or the understanding of just how hard or how long it will take.

Tire changing sucks. I hated it as a tech to have to do it.
Truck tires are just impossible. Swing that hammer, break that bead, jam those spoons in there, flip it over, pull on the bead till your balls drop.
All in 100 degree heat.
Good old days.

I just want to say I hate this question. Here is the context I most recently heard it.

"You are just going to the movies. Do you really need a gun?"

My mother addressing me when she saw me strapping on my 9mm to go to a late night flick. Now my normal response is:

"I hope not."

That is a great defusal answer to that stupid question. I understand my mother though. She is my mother. She only thinks of me as her child. Doesn't matter that I have a license and several thousand round of practice and the best safety instruction a father can provide.

But it got me thinking. Why do people ask about need? Whose business is it to ask if I need it? Who can tell me what I need? Why do people seek to regulate on need? Where is the word "need" in the 2nd?

I would respond, "What I need, is for people to mind their own business. I have my reasons", and leave it at that.
