For all of Pompeo's accolades indicative of very high intelligence, the hearing in pursuit of Senate Confirmation as Secretary of State has proved troubling.

The Jersey Senators have teamed up on Pompeo creating some serious obstacles to confirmation. Pompeo fell right into Sen. Booker's Islamophobia trap! Sen. Menendez highlighted the differences between Pompeo's previous Public Statements and the carefully cultivated image Pompeo hopes to convey during the confirmation process.

I predict the Senate Foreign Relations Committee does not advance the nomination. That in spite of this the Senate GOP Leadership advances the nomination to the Senate Floor and by 'Close Call' Pompeo's confirmation efforts fail!

What say you?

He just had a vote as CIA director.

He was confirmed by the United States Senate on January 23, 2017, with a vote of 66–32.

He is well qualified and should be approved as the new Secretary of State

Some background information on Pompeo.

In 1986, Pompeo graduated first in his class from the United States Military Academy at West Point where he majored in Mechanical Engineering.

From 1986 to 1991, Pompeo served in the U.S. Army as an Armor Branch Cavalry Officer, reaching the rank of Captain.

In 1994, Pompeo received a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, where he served as one of 78 editors of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy,[13][14] and on the 81-member Board of Editors[15] of the Harvard Law Review.[2] After graduating, he worked as a lawyer for Williams & Connolly.

In the 2010 Kansas Republican primary for the 4th District Congressional seat, Pompeo defeated State Senator Jean Schodorf.

In the general election, Pompeo defeated Democratic nominee Raj Goyle, a member of the Kansas House of Representatives. Pompeo received 59% of the vote.

Director of the Central Intelligence Agency January 23, 2017 to present.

It is highly likely that the extremely thin State Department combined with multiple ongoing and upcoming international crisis will push his confirmation through quickly.

I don't think a couple of morons like Booker and Mendendez will be enough prevent Pompeos confirmation. I believe that even a handful of democrats will vote for his confirmation.

If you consider Senators Booker and Menendez morons, how do you rate yourself?

The missing choice for the poll is, "I don't know.". That's my choice at this point.

That being said, I think Mr. Pompeo is not a good candidate for Secretary of State because of his temperament and because the job requires skills in diplomacy and negotiation which I believe Mr. Pompeo lacks in spades. I am also concerned at the preponderance of active and ex military personnel in the cabinet of a supposedly civilian government. It's looking more and more like a soft-junta with each new appointment.

Cheers.

Yeah. It's funny how he can be approved as CIA director but in one year's time all of a sudden he turned into a slime ball unworthy of approval for Sec of ST.

Regardless of what the far left VOX dreams could or hypothesizes may happen, or what anyone thinks of Mr. Pompeo, he will be confirmed as SecState thanks to President Obama, Ex-Senator and former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and the other Democrats in the Senate when they held the majority and decided to eviscerate the filibuster for POTUS nominations (with the sole exception of SCOTUS nominations). I said then that it would come back to haunt them. Just as a hell of a lot of actions that McConnell has done with Senate rules and procedures that will eventually come back to haunt the GOP.

Shall we agree to call whichever side Loses on this vote the Real Dreamers? In spite of the easy path last time to CIA confirmation Pompeo enjoyed, I anticipate a United DEM Front this time.

Uber Hawk Bolton teaming up with Islamophobe and War Hawk Pompeo.... Haspel's past ... these factors change the Calculus. THE GOP has to get to at least a 50 - 50 tie for Pence to step in.

He was a slime ball well before he was approved to run the CIA. There was nothing 'sudden' about it.

All it takes is 50 votes from Republicans, and the VP tie breaking vote and he's in. The Democrats can only raise hell, but it will be to no avail. They did it to themselves. I was pissed off when they did it way back when, and I'm still pissed. The filibuster was one of those weird Senate rules that required that the Senators make it work - to make them work together. The Democrats killed that.

I expect him to be confirmed. I would vote NO if it were up to me.

So let us see, graduated from Northern Valley Regional high school, played varsity football, named to the All USA high school football team, went to Stanford University, received a bachelor of Arts in political science, master of arts in sociology. He was elected senior class president.

Booker ran The Bridge Peer Counseling Center, a student-run crisis hotline, and organized help from Stanford students for youth in East Palo Alto, California.

After Stanford, Booker was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to study at the University of Oxford, where he earned an honors degree in United States history in 1994 as a member of The Queen's College. He earned his Juris Doctor in 1997 from Yale Law School, where he operated free legal clinics for low-income residents of New Haven, Connecticut. At Yale, Booker was a founding member of the Chai Society (now Shabtai), was a Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and was active in the National Black Law Students Association.

- member of the board of advisors of the PAC on educational reform
- member of the board of trustees at Teachers college, Columbia university
- formerly a member of the Executive Committee at Yale Law School and the Board of Trustees at Stanford University
- recipient of the U.S. Senator John Heinz Award for Greatest Public Service by an Elected or Appointed Official

Yes Booker sounds like a total moron

ObamacareFail, a self-described genius compared to Booker, might prefer to maintain anonymity.

I appreciate you voting with your brain instead of your heart.

A quick study would have led me to vote the same way. I expect the DEM Leaders to unite against confirmation. Manchin (WV), due to the special circumstances in his state, might buckle. If so, that would make Manchin a DEM in name only. Changing circumstances has utterly transformed the Confirmation Calculus this time around for Pompeo.

As I recall, the left referred to Condoleeza Rice as a moron during the Bush Administration. She had a pedigree much more impressive then the two morons you are attempting to defend.

Sure they will.

With the venal and unprincipled individuals they have already confirmed to date, the GOP majority isn't suddenly going to get a conscience.

If all the GOP hold the line - then Manchin is just a third nipple on a bulls chest and of no use to anyone regardless of the circumstance.

Do you care to back up the Islamophobe charge?

As I recall, the left referred to Condoleeza Rice as a moron during the Bush Administration. She had a pedigree much more impressive then the two morons you are attempting to defend.

So because someone referred to Condoleezza Rice as a moron you think it any more acceptable to refer to 2 senators who you disagree with as morons? Yes, sure, that is totally logical from a partisan BS view I guess.

So rather than realize that Rice is not a moron and people who accused her of being a moron were in fact morons themselves for claiming this you think turnabout is fair play? Or is this just political morality, if you don't agree with someone curse them out as morons?

IMHO, the people who called her a moron were wrong to call her that, just like you are wrong to call Booker and Menendez morons. Two wrongs do not make a right.

And I do not defend anyone, I just point out the nonsensical and totally BS nature of your insults towards Booker and Menendez. People who you can disagree with wholeheartedly on their political views but who clearly not morons by any stretch of the imagination.

You just do your argument a disservice if you are unable to disagree with their questions to Pompei without having to resort to the failed policy of name calling.

As I've already said, the poll doesn't accommodate my thoughts on this topic, so I didn't vote.

Do I want Pompeo confirmed? Hell, no, he not only isn't qualified, but he has a palpable disdain for diplomacy in general.

Do I think Pompeo will be confirmed? Hell, yes. Republican Senate, wishy-washy Democrats who won't want to make waves in purple districts.
