When individual people make something and then come together in a group to eat it all, what do you call that? I've always called it a potluck, but I was wondering what everyone else calls it.

That is what I call it too, or did until this year. In 2020 it's known as a 'covid 19 super spreader event'

Poluck here, but I've heard it called other things. I can't remember what though.

Potluck
Really hungry after looking at the spread. Everything looks delicious!! (y)

Probably Jacob's Join. We just call it "Everybody is supposed to bring a dish" :geek:

When I was Young we called it a smorgasbord - now we say potluck.

I've never heard Jacob's Join.

I heard someone today call it a "carry-in". Never heard that one before either.

My work used to have them but then we just started ordering in or going out. TBH, I preferred when everybody brought something.

i've generally heard it referred to as a pitch in.

I dunno, it all depends who they are. If I have been to their house and know their standards, I'm fine. If not, then no thank you. It is getting worse as I get older, seen too many people talk and spit while preparing food.

As if the people in the outback kitchen don't.
