I notice a lot of our friends on the left in DP are saddened by the execution of Saddam so I thought I would pose the question...

In order to be a martyr, one would have to have a cause. Saddam had no beliefs.

Do you come up with these questions on your own or is there a book you get the from? Does the title of that book have the words "Stupid" and "Questions" anywhere near the title? - Good lord NP.

Hey with all the sympathy you and your liberal friends have shown in other threads for the tyrant I thought the question begged to be asked........

What did I do? touch a nerve with you?

He might be a martyr to anti-American scum and dictators around the world. But I do not think any sane person would see him as a martyr.

No....its a stupid poll because it is premised on an unproved assumption (that people on the left are saddened by Saddam's execution) and because it is premised on yet another of your neo-con v. liberal arguments.
You know Navy.....its not always a black/white issue.....at least with most people.

Do you know what sympathy means? Show me one post of mine where I've shown sympathy for Saddam.

I can't believe you're stupid enough to actually think that any of these people actually like Saddam, so you must just be being disingenous in a really unsophisticated way.

The only 'nerve' you could possibly be 'touching' is the fact that hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have died since 2003, that current rate of Iraqi civilian deaths is 300+ per month on average, that Iraq is on the brink of moving from a low intensity to a hot civil war, that this civil war could spill over into a regional, perhaps even global war, that terrorists have newly set up shop in a destabilized Iraq (that they could come out the winners in the nation), that even if that doesn't happen Iran has been assured of an enhanced regional influence (YAY!!! ), that there is almost no chance that democracy will take root in the country to save us from this mess, and that all of this was predicted in advance by so many people. Nothing to be worried about there, and if you even suggest that none of it was likely to happen with Saddam in power, you are a Saddam lover.

I think the stance is not unreasonable, and your attitude that it is somehow completely unfounded simply reduces your credibility to zero. It is like calling you a Bin Laden or Ahmadinejad lover, since you seem to love what we've done for them. Can you just get off it already?

Call down. Look at it from Navy Pride's perspectives. They're only Iraqis, it's not like they are Americans or people or anything like that.

Ummmm 300 X 12 is 3600 which is far less than 26,000, and well within the reasonable range for the civillian portion of the death count. But, I'm perfectly willing to go with your number... The current rate of civilian, police and army deaths is 2166 per month on average. Holy Shnikey!!!

ONLY WATER? I think I'm going to need something stronger, if you've got it...

I actually made a mistake....... It was a total of 16,273 Iraqis killed in 2006.....All this bull **** about hundred of thousands of Iraqis dying is just left wing spin and your one of the biuggest spinners..........

MassLive.com

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) — As enraged crowds protested the hanging of Saddam Hussein across Iraq's Sunni heartland Monday, government officials reported that 16,273 Iraqi civilians, soldiers and police died violent deaths in 2006, a figure larger than an independent Associated Press count for the year by more than 2,500.

The tabulation by the Iraqi ministries of Health, Defense and Interior, showed that 14,298 civilians, 1,348 police and 627 soldiers were killed in the violence that raged in the country last year.

If you even knew me you'd know I had an argument with Dave regarding the 650,000 Iraqi number. But you dont know. You just swing blindly and then open your eyes to see if you've hit anything.

I see although many people viewed the poll that only 5 said that Saddam was not a martyr.......I guess one could only assume from that is our left wing frriends believe he is a martyr but are to ashamed to make it public........

What was that old saying about when you assume things?

You would think that since the poll results are not public they would be brave enough to vote yes.

Does it matter what we vote? Isn't this really a question for Bathists or Sunnis?

Considering all the ******s crying over his death one probably does not have to be a Sunni or Bathists to view a brutal dictator as a martyr.

:rofl I had to thank you for that one, it was priceless. Mind if I quote you in case I ever need to explain logical fallacies to anyone, that one was perfect!

Nah, I didn't vote because the question, like many posted by NP, is inherently ambiguous.

Is it asking whether I personally believe Saddam is a martyr? No. Or is it asking whether I believe Saddam is a martyr to others? Yes.

Cannot answer the question as posed.
