It's been brought up before.

I said then and I said now --

I have zero problem with any of this so long as we return to the scope of government which existed when he was President. Which means everything the government does now, which it didn't do in 1960, gets chucked.

If you balk at that, then putting this up is bull****.

But you see, it's the 1960s any more.

Back then partisanship didn't matter as much as it did today. Kennedy, a Democrat, lowered taxes IIRC. It wasn't about following a strict party platform, it was each president doing what he thought was best for the time.

meant to say NOT the 60s anymore

It's not the '50s anymore. Thus, comparing what anyone does now to what Eisenhower did THEN is specious at best.

Depends on the definition. He was also criticized for tolerating the New Deal-era policies.

I don't think that just because time moves on that the government should grow. It's obviously grown beyond it's means and needs to be drastically cut back. It may not be in the 60's, but in the 2010's government has grown far too much and we need to cut it back.

This is a bit romantic. Partisan politics mattered a great deal back then as well. Just as much, if not more so.

Which is how LBJ got to be Veep. Electoral balance is nice, but it was also important to have someone who knew how to twist a few arms once in office.

Really?!? Who told you this! What year is it?!!? How did this information escape me!

No really... So? You can roll back spending without rolling back civil rights, women's rights, gay rights, technology, workplace safety regulation or any knowledge gained since.

Fun Fact: The US interstate highway system was inspired by and based off of the Nazi autobahn.

Not to side track on the autobahn yet the autobahn was long before Nazi Germany. However evil Hitler was ... german engineering of highways was cutting edge from beginning to end.

Eisenhower was an extraordinary leader to invest in the United states and create jobs while doing so.

Let's just make sure we don't start throwing money at infrastructure projects for the sake of throwing money at infrastructure projects. There was a strong pre-existing need for an interstate highway. There is no need for a high-speed rail or another bridge to nowhere.

I was thinking more along the line or repairing our crumbling infrastructure and RE instead of finite resources.

How about modernizing and fixing what we have? Is that off limits too?

The way the stimulus is being used in my city to repair our crumbling infrastructure is that they're putting big tin green fish, with holes in them, along the freeways. They also have some tin birds and on some freeway islands they've constructed big tin elk and other strange animals. They're also painting the concrete a light brown color and installing no-jump metal panels on one side only of raised walkways. Murals are probably on the way.

go back and re-read what i wrote. It appears that you are mis-understanding me.

Right after the deficient is painful and we owe no other nation a dime.

I agree, no more wars or militray involvement ANYWHERE until we pay off our debts.

ohh, does that put you out of a job? sorry about that.

The military doesn't lay people off. Jerry will be fine.
