If we had men like this in office instead of the usual money grubbing politicians
a lot of good things would get done.

Sheriff's deputies assigned to find, arrest illegal immigrants

By AMANDA LEE MYERS
Associated Press Writer

PHOENIX (AP) -- Maricopa County sheriff's deputies and volunteers will patrol the desert and roadways in the southwestern part of the county for illegal immigrants and arrest them under a state smuggling law, the sheriff said Wednesday.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office will draw from existing deputies and members of its 3,000-member posse reserve - made up of trained, unpaid volunteers - to form the illegal immigration posse.

The 100-member illegal immigration posse will join 57 other specialized department posses that target specific crimes, including animal cruelty and prostitution.

The effort is an attempt to slow the tide of illegal immigrants into the county, Arizona's most populous, said Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Upon his initial election as sheriff of Maricopa County in 1992, Joe Arpaio immediately began instituting changes at county jails. These new measures included serving less expensive meals to inmates and issuing them pink underwear as part of the jails' uniforms pink underwear and ordering the use of pink handcuffs.

One of his most criticized decisions was the construction of a tent city that housed both men and women. Some inmates in the facility claimed that they were mistreated. He also created an all-female chain gang.
"It's important to send the message out to stay in Mexico and don't come roaming around here hoping you're going to get amnesty," Arpaio said. "They ought to stay cool, stay in Mexico and wait until this illegal immigration problem is solved. If they don't do that and they come to Maricopa County, they're going straight to jail."

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO - HE IS THE MARICOPA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER.

THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the "tent city jail":

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but "G" movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

Hey I remember that guy, he was the militant prick in the War on Drugs episode of Penn and Teller's: Bulls hit

Im not surprised... he's the type who doesnt break the law because things are illegal, instead of for the sake of his own personal morality

He sounds funny to me but I voted yes. As long as he isn't crossing the line everything sounds okay to me. The only thing that sounds "questionable" is the mixing of male and female prisoners.....seems like that could get out of hand if you weren't careful but as long as everything is under control I don't see a problem with the way this guy does things. :rofl

I bet if we had men and women like this guy there would proably not be that much crime and less horse **** politics.

i saw one of the guys on TV and he didn't seem like a particulary nice person who was doing these things out of some weird pleasure. Not the sort of person i want running anything!

So you want a sheriff who coddles crimnals and feels so sorry for them?People are sick of the justice system feeling sorry for criminal scum.

I don't want either. Just because i don't like one extreme doesn't mean i want to go to the other....

So how would you treat inmates?Give them a kiss on the head and tell them its not thier fault?

No i would fall somewhere between the situation we are in now and what this guy is doing. But i would def. have a level headed person in charge not this mentalist!

Apparently that sheriff is doing a excellent job.If he did'nt, those people would not elect him. Most people do not feel sorry for criminals, they broke the law. The idea behind incarceration is to punish and to discourage people from breaking the law by making them not want to come back to jail.

I like just about everything i have heard about this guy
his pink underwear and slippers for prisoners
chain gangs
bologna sandwiches

I also heard his recurrence rate is way down
however have not heard about the rate in surrounding counties where they cons may have moved to, to avoid going back to his jail

I think what he is doing is similar to Tough Love
tired of the left trying to coddle prisoners
prison is not supposed to be a vacation with 3 hots and a cot
it is supposed to be punishment

that being said, those who will be released back into society do need to be given skills in trades, etc..., so they can become productive members of society once they are released

If I was running that jail the only thing they would get to eat is bread, prefereably MRE bread.

Sounds fine to me except for the whole men and women being housed in a tent together. That's a law suit waiting to happen.

 And what happens when your inmates start dying one by one from malnutrition?

The bread can be fortified with vitamins and minerals.
