For the liberals among us; please feel free to list as many ways as possible showing us your honor toward the U.S. of A. Please, no rhetoric, give specific examples as to how you show honor for country.

This poll is spawned for the sole purpose to produce nothing but partisan hatred. If you want to bash on liberals why not join some conversations in the basement?

It sounded to me like a way to allow liberals to show their support of our country and refute the conservative notion that they don't support our country. However the thread doesn't seem to be seeing much actvity.....

I have often wondered what they liked about America, as all I usually hear about is what is wrong with her?

I can't speak for all liberals, but to me, what made America the shining city on the hill was not its name, or pretty flag, or its superior armed forces, or even its dominant economy.

No, what made America the shining city on the hill was its history and foundation upon liberty, freedom, justice, the rule of law, and the concept that all man are created equal before the law. We hold these truths to be self evident. A nation conceived on the principle that every person has rights that supercede even those of the government.

IMO, we do most to honor America by honoring those principles upon which she was founded. We honor the USA by standing up for those principles, and defending those principles, even though it means standing up against the current government or taking positions that are contrary to what the current government is doing. Or maybe I should say "especially" instead of "even though."

IMO, a government that locks people away without charges, disrespects human dignity, engages in torture, attacks other nations based upon false pretenses, and bypasses the rule of law is not honoring what America stands for and thus not honoring America. I object to those things and I want a government that defends American principles. Even in the face of a external threat. Or maybe I should say especially in the fact of an external threat.

That is honoring America and that shining city on the hill, in my view.

I do!

This is just a snippet of how I honor america:
One condition, PTSDKID. You have to go next.

  1. I vote.
  2. I question the government.
  3. I work for a living.
  4. I pay taxes.
  5. I put my hand on my heart during the anthem.
  6. I buy local goods when I can.
  7. I don't shop at Wal-mart.(see above)
  8. I respect other Americans.
  9. I treat other Americans equally, no matter their race or sexual preference.
  10. I don't mind contributing (through taxes) to the betterment of the nation and those within it.
  11. I drive a gas efficient car as to not bolster the strength and influence of our potential enemies in the middle east.
  12. I realize the importance of some environmental regulation to keep the country beautiful and safe.
  13. I celebrate independence day and memorial day.

I drink beer and grill out on a regular basis.

So ptsdKID, how do you honor america?

To paraphrase Bill Clinton, there is nothing wrong with America that cannot be fixed with what is right with America. That ecapsulates my feelings as a liberal.

I thought ptsdkid's sig is more then enough to assume a partisan attack when a poll is made asking Liberals to prove their honor to America.

Anyway I back liberals on many topics so I'll post my list (which happens to be close to Major Bakers):
  1. I vote.
  2. I question the government.
  3. I work for a living.
  4. I pay taxes.
  5. I prefer Napa Valley wine with my tri-tip.
  6. I put my hand on my heart during the anthem.
  7. I respect other Americans and their right of choice.
  8. I treat other Americans equally, no matter their race or sexual preference.
  9. I don't mind contributing (through taxes) to the betterment of the nation and those within it.
  10. I am multi-partied (conservative on some things and liberal on others).
  11. I am open-minded on others thoughts and opinions.
  12. I realize the importance of some environmental regulation to keep the country beautiful and safe.
  13. I celebrate independence day and memorial day.

This one does.

I work. And I enjoy my work.
I do the caucus thing. I have even been coaxed into being a delegate at the state level a time or two.
I love parades, especially the ones on the Fourth. I stand when the flag passes.
I hold my elected officials to the highest standard. Unfortunately, some on both sides disappoint me. I vote for the best candidate as I see them.
I also question the government and have raised my daughters to question it also.
I don't allow my students to badmouth a politician without providing something to back up their claims. (can't say "He sucks!" without telling us why you think so ;) )
Probably other ways, but it takes a lot of time to post things here when I would rather be playing t-ball and eating hot-dogs with my grandsons!

*** I have been chosen as a steward by God himself to expose the evils of liberalism throughout our great nation. I cannot possibly imagine another more honorable and timely calling than that which our great lord has bestowed upon me in these troubling times.

My personal relation with God has ensured me that I will succeed in this mission during these golden years of mortal life. Perhaps my work to eliminate this liberal scourge--can be seen as America's genesis to creating Reagan's shiny city atop the hill. It sure would be nice if you could work with me here to achieve this honorable objective, for I am rather easy going, but firm in my convictions.

That's funny. I have been chosen as a steward by God himself to expose the evils of conservatism throughout our great nation.

He works in mysterious ways.

So you do nothing at all for our country then. If you said you were here to expose the evils throughout our great nation, you might have something. But in what measurable way do you contribute?

Oh so god talks to you too huh? Tell me, whos higher on his speed dial, you or Jerry Falwell?

It's your great lord not mine. The entity I see as God does not teach to hate others such as yours.

:rofl Thanks for the great laugh, kid.

As for myself, I served proudly in the military, and was awarded an honorable discharge. Other then that, I refuse to take part in an obviously biased poll. I think the more apt questions are do the new breed of neo-cons honor america? Or do they honor their bank statement over the values of America? Do the war profiteers honor America?

Kid needs to get over this hatred of liberals, he has indeed become what he despises, I did not vote in this thread either, but I like what I have read, some of you damn libs have come up with some great responses.;)

What does all this stuff about god have to do with how you contribute to and show your honor to America??????
I'd like to see him explain that.

Until then, this is just another PTSDKid troll poll.

I think you both need to either decrease or increase your meds. Whichever works for you! ;) :D

While PTSD started this with a stupidly phrased poll, it's a great chance to refute the preconceptions that people have about liberals and yet some people refuse to do so because they didn't like how the question was asked. Page back and take a look at the posts that actually said something about how they honor America. They are worth reading by BOTH sides of the political lines. I can say that as a staunch conservative, I can agree with almost everything that was listed by the Major, Gibberish and Paladin. There were a few that I'd have to disagree with, but the overwhelming majority of them I'm 100% on board with.

Cool... I have my Dad's (WWII) displayed prominently on top of my entertainment center.

Thumbs up on most everything else, except I'm not a cop..LOL...and replace Iraq with Vietnam.

You see, the community can make a bad thread, good, and you have that power, don't rely on the beat cop for that, know your strength.;)

Yeah, my grandpas is up on top of my bookcase here in the living room.

Sure, I'll play along....

And borrow from ::Major Baker:: like everyone else while I'm at it....what can I say, the man has some good points!!

1. I vote.
2. I question the government.
3. I work - not a "nine to five" like many of you, but keeping a happy and healthy home for my family is just as demanding and rewarding.
4. My husband pays taxes.
5. I put my hand on my heart during the anthem, and remove my hat if I'm wearing one. And I get irate when others don't.
6. I respect other Americans.
7. I treat other Americans equally, no matter their race , religion, sexual orientation, gender, etc.
8. I don't mind contributing (through my husband's taxes) to the betterment of the nation and those within it.
9. I realize the importance of some environmental regulation to keep the country beautiful and safe.
10. I celebrate Independence Day, Memorial Day, and Veteran's Day.
11. I proudly served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force, and supported my husband through 2 1/2 years of his service in the Army, including his two tours in Iraq, and continue to support my friends and family members serving in our armed forces.
12. I support my husband's service as a law enforcement officer.
13. I "fly" a flag on a wall in my home (okay, I can't fly it outside cause I live in an apartment, sue me), it's the flag I received after my first tour in Iraq with my name and rank and stuff on it. <--- ditto, seeing as how we live in the same house and all that....
14. I have my Korean War veteran grandfather's funeral flag folded in a display case with his military medals and stuff in it <--- ditto again.
15. I stand up for what I believe in, even if it's not the popular opinion to have.

Good enough for now.....

For anyone to have a goal of completely eliminating a party is ludicrous. Why did we fight Hitler? Saddam? To say that you want to eliminate the opposition party is to overtly say that you think we should have a dictatorship. Please tell me how having the goal of a dictatorship is honoring America.

I honor America in many ways. I don't feel the need to justify them to anyone with Fidel Castro's mindset.
