Disney Song From The Little Mermaid Pulled By Princeton, Citing #MeToo

So freaking what?

Nobody is exempt from being a racist.

Only the majority power can oppress another group. You can claim it's bigotry, but that's stupid victim game as well. Stop pretending to be a victim.

Get it out of your system now, it shall not be long before the societal language police begin to impose massive penalties for such talk.

Minds must be properly molded you know...

UTOPIA DEMANDS

::shutter:: but I think you are right about them fining us for saying a "faux pas." The far left in our country would like nothing more than us to adhere to their totalitarian 'newspeak'.

Hogwash... Pure, unadulterated hogwash.

.

Once again grad school sociology is devastated by authentic frontier gibberish.

You pretend to be a victim of racism. haha

Eco is using the sociological idea of racisim. Personally I agree its hogwash but he has been peddling that junk science definition on these boards for years. Its best to treat it like a crazy person on the subway. Just nod and tell your loved ones about the wild rantings later.

Oh bullcrap. Sorry but I have to agree, that the PC police are now out of control and way off into left field.
Let's all become Amish, that should solve all our problems.

Seriously, a cartoon where a character tells the YOUNG ADULT man to kiss a girl is not a recipe for sexual assault.
It just isn't.
And this is a rapidly mushrooming extreme left moral panic, and it makes me want to puke.

I'll admit that I misunderstood and/or misjudged you in the past when it comes to extremism, that which continues to plague our country as far as acceptable speech goes.

Good post.

Will if they get half a chance demand and impose.....we really have already gotten ourselves this deeply into this New Dark Age.

I am dismayed beyond belief to see this in this life.

When I started I never imagined this.

I thought that we we better.

It's the dictionary definition. And the academic definition. Racist rhetoric pretends whites suffer racial disadvantage as a group. They don't.

And if you wanna get personal, have the balls to quote a man even if you haven't the decency to employ an appropriate place. Lest you appear a coward on top of petty.

Some twinkie with mush for brains ruining life for the rest of us.

You've purposely obfuscated Grim's point above or so it appears.

Congrats, but what you wrote does not negate what Grim stated above; "nobody is exempt from being a racist."

Some twinkie with mush for brains ruining life for the rest of us.

Lesson: You/We cant have the nice stuff when You/We dont take care of the basics with some competence.

Some twinkie with mush for brains ruining life for the rest of us.

You poor victim. How terrible of "twinkies" to destroy your life like that. It's almost like they're alpha and you're not. Oh well, keep crying.

What does this have to do with left/democrats?

Why don't you kick them to the curb Trix? What's that? Can't hear you because your post is screaming absurdity.

Most people, I'd wager, don't like the bullying of SJWs gone astray. Deal with it.
all this snowflake "Wahhaaa, cryyyy...I'm a victim of college kids saying stuff!!" is pathetic.

They often use stupid tactics, to get attention, for sometimes good causes. Maybe we do need to retire a lot of old sexist songs, nothing wrong with that. Bullying to do it,is not ideal, but don't cry about it being Democrats politically. republican have all 3 branches of government, why can't they legislate this away if it's political? Ummm...golly gee I don't know, I was busy bullying illiberla leftists hur hur.

Here's a tissue.
I can only speculate that I hit a nerve of yours when I referenced the "illiberal left" while opining above.
You deal with it.

I never wrote anything about the Democrats.... I love Dems.
I wrote about the lame far leftist illiberals of all ages who have hijacked the party.

Some twinkie with mush for brains ruining life for the rest of us.

When your a feminist and not many people want to kiss you, you protest people getting kissed.

Really? Who exactly in the "politically correct left" is behind banning the song? Was there a demonstration against it lead by George Soros or did sensitive student get their nose bent out of shape?

You're trying to paint the entire left with the actions of one person. Not surprisingly your post is a failure.

If this group is responding to rhetoric circulated by the #MeToo movement, then no particular Lefty has to be responsible for leading a demonstration.

The brainwashing effect of the rhetoric-- always coupled with the more substantive fear of legal persecution-- does the job on its own.

Which is not to say that those who have chosen to roll over are not still despicable for caving in to this "phantom pressure."

In case you missed it, encouraging consent is also tagged as ignoring consent.

We've gone from Harvey Weinstein to Al Franken all the way to Aziz Ansari, who was hate bombed after consensual sex was later regretted by his date the next day.

So even a date that didn't go the way someone wanted to is now misogyny.

If you base your political power on victim-hood, you have to continually be in search of new victims to maintain it.

This is where the SJW, leftist excessive and stupid PC police, the thought control shock troops are.

Seems a lot of people have problems with "Kiss the Girl".

No one should be shocked when a song from a movie 30 years, a generation, ago has inappropriate elements. It being a kids' cartoon does not excuse it from the passage of time. "But it's a kids' show!" Who cares, it's 30 years ago, of course there's some ****ed up ****.

Disney is a magical world, don't get me wrong. But social advancement in the real world counts too. We can't actually live in Disney World. We do need to accept change.

The crux of the argument is whether or not the elements are actually inappropriate, and what the arguments against them actually are.

Here's my prediction: even if the Brain-Dead Left manages to ban every song or story that references male sexual aggressiveness, hetero women are STILL going to prefer having dudes make the first move.

You poor victim. How terrible of "twinkies" to destroy your life like that. It's almost like they're alpha and you're not. Oh well, keep crying.

Anyone who sits around all day looking for something to be offended about or creates new buzzwords to justify their petty bull**** is as valuable as dog **** on the bottom of a shoe. That kind of person is nothing. Absolutely NOTHING.

They provide no constructive solutions to the problems we face in the world. All they do is bitch and whine and create division.

It encourages him to ignore consent.

What does the actual cartoon depict regarding her level of responsiveness?

Does she, or does she not, give every impression that she wants to be kissed?

Does anyone seriously think that the scene has to be ruined with a moment where the prince explicitly asks permission to kiss the Little Mermaid?

Funny to see all the conservative white people upset.....LOL

You are right, that a capella group is all white indeed. Darn that crab too.

I'll admit that I misunderstood and/or misjudged you in the past when it comes to extremism, that which continues to plague our country as far as acceptable speech goes.

Good post.

Sigh, the problem is, MOST liberals are pretty much in the middle, and don't subscribe to an especially narrow set of values.
I'm somewhat left of the center but not all the way out in left field.
As a youngster (14-15-16 yrs old) I think I might have been for a couple of years but that's likely because I was a camp follower of my oldest brother, a card carrying member of the SDS underground and the Socialist Worker's Party.

He quickly swung all the way over to the other extreme and is now so far to the Right you can almost see the Jade Helm from there...except that would be too far Left for him.
I decamped and as I began my life in the world of work and living as an adult, I drifted over to the middle of the road where it felt comfortable and stayed there.

I didn't even especially get involved very much in politics for most of my life. I was a faithful voter but that was about it, really.
It wasn't until I married a disabled Navy vet lady who had a disabled child that I suddenly realized where our vulnerabilities were. She wasn't even interested in politics when we first got together twenty years ago either.
"A full plate", she said.
About eight or ten years ago, SHE woke up and started asking questions, a LOT of them.

Sorry trix, but moderates aren't in control anymore.
You like to speak of the extremists on the Left.
Yeah, we have our share. I see them.

Well, right now, the extremists on the Right own the whole magilla, or they did till a month ago, and we're in lame duck limbo till January 3rd anyway.

We just buried George H.W. Bush this morning, didn't we? I found plenty to disagree with when he was President, and I didn't vote for him either. But outside of our disagreements, he was a pretty decent man, and I recognized a lot of that, particularly when Alan Simpson gave his heartfelt eulogy.

And I'll try to get this across to you, hopefully you'll understand the spirit in which I say it:
If we were still dealing with people like George H.W. Bush and Alan Simpson on the Republican side today, a lot of the hatred and discontent you're seeing wouldn't exist.

Those kinds of Republicans were drummed out of the party starting around ten years ago and today there is a recklessness in the air which is palpable. Even the remaining few moderates in the party feel it, and they've said so.

Oh sure, sure...there would be some griping and I bet I'd be doing my share of it.
But trust me when I tell you that the remarks I've made about Trump are not "griping".
If only it was "just griping".

I don't even think I would have ever joined any online political forums at all if it was just griping.
You wouldn't even see someone nicknamed "Checkerboard Strangler"...not here at DP, not at Capitol Hill Blue, not anywhere.
My political life would consist of opening up the newspaper or turning on the news, and making a few snide remarks and carrying on with my life.

And then I'd reach for the toast and that would be the end of it.
And oh, how I wish to God that's how it would be today.

But it isn't, and Trump is an extremely dangerous man, and the extremists are in control.
And it's pretty goddamn scary.

And this country is better than that, and we deserve better.
