DirecTV Drops OAN

Was it a wise business move for DirecTV to drop the highly-rated OAN?

Cable providers seem to be the only ones carrying FOX NEWS/CNN/MSNBC, though. Some of us still like to view them.

I usually get my fill of those channels through YouTube. I like Mehdi Hasan.

Doesn't cover live-coverage though, which - especially in CNN's case - is an important strength.

I understand, but constant live coverage access isn't that important to me. If there's something big going on there's often live coverage available free on YT.

I just might drop DirecTV.

“This [dropping OAN network] is highly troubling and disappointing. Not just because this is an unwise business decision, but because you are masking what is obviously viewpoint discrimination with neutral corporate-speak; your decision was certainly not based on a ‘routine internal review.’ Rather, your cancelation of OAN comes after a crescendo of powerful leftwing voices demanded that you take action against them.” - a letter by Republican Attorneys General, led by Ken Paxton of Texas

Lol

You drop them. You do that.

OAN brought insufficient value to Direct TV. This was a business decision not a political decision.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of the bolded. Thanks!

It's the other way around. DirecTV pays for the programming it broadcasts. One assumes OAN hasn't been worth the cost. These decisions are business decisions, not political ones.
It's not for nothing that the same thing happened with the contract was up with Verizon.

Millions of people. It has exclusive rights to NFL Sunday Ticket, which allows anyone who owns a house to watch any game played on Sunday afternoon instead of just the locally televised NFL teams.
This 2022 season is the last for NFL Sunday Ticket and rumors have Apple+ taking it over and it may cost twice as much as Directv charges.

Not enough people watched it to be worth the investment. Pretty simple. The networks and providers earn their revenue from advertising. I assume OAN didn't generate enough.

Exactly. The attempt to get a 'settlement' will basically be symbolic more than anything else.

Anyone going to DirectTV for the purpose of watching OANN should have their heads examined. You can still watch them online and delude yourself, if you need more I am sure there is someway to get back to Stormfront as well.

Not everyone. Those of who live in the country can't stream for lack of high speed internet service.

Didn't sell enough MyPillow spots I guess, that and Viagra and Ashley Maddison spots?

What ever happened to capitalism? If there is demand surely someone will supply.

Capitalism involves competition. OAN has or had at least two competitors both of which appear on these networks. You want to think OAN was dropped because of its politics. If that were true they wouldn't have bought the programming in the first place. They bought it as an investment in advertising revenue. It is what the networks do.

I think it would help if people stopped using the judicial system for the wrong reasons.

It's a company trying to keep solvent. It won't work, but they will try.

They will disappear.
