Did New Orleans doctors resort to euthanasia?By Simon Jeffery / Hurricane Katrina 01:30pm

The South Asia earthquake, with its far greater loss of life, has eclipsed the memory of some of the horrors seen last month in New Orleans. You do not, however, need to think too far back to remember the days earlier this autumn when the city was flooded and those who were to frail or too poor to evacuate were left to suffer.

Conditions in the city were grim. A report from CNN.com (which, if you follow the link, you can also watch as a video) investigates allegations that staff at one city hospital facing soaring temperatures with no electricity, no water and dwindling food and medical supplies ("battle conditions" according to one manager) discussed euthanasia for patients thought unlikely to survive.

This story is so sad and so difficult to begin to believe. The more information that I read about these accusations, the more I am beginning to believe it did occur. I personally could have NEVER preformed these so called "mercy killings", but I have am sure that these people would have said the same thing before they were placed in these cicumstances.

If they are charged, do you think a jury a will find them guilty of murder on some level??

I could not charge them on this but would charge the owners for not evacuating them in time
that is inexcusable for me

its a horror story to say the least I dont see how someone who took an oath
to save lives could do this it is beyond all logic
it must have really been bad conditions down there for it to happen
they did discuss doing so as the link shows

I had read that link as well. I also saw a special on TV the other day about it where they actually went inside the building. I cannot imagine how terribl;e it must have been.

I do not understand, nor will I ever how this situation esculated to the point that it did? Hindsight is 20/20...but could nothing more have been done prior to this?

it is now known that mercy hospital in N.O.carried out carry out mercy killings without the consent of family members !
AND we all know they had at least 5 days in which to evacuate prior to katrina making land fall
as did bush and feema have 5 days advanced warning of Katrina and chose to do dittley squat about it
SAD day in American history
