Did Israels drug problem lead to violence in Gaza?

Here's something you don't hear much of from the mainstream media. According to former 60 Minutes newsperson Morgan Strong, who published a "first person" account of life in Gaza...

The Dilemma That Is Gaza

...states that Israel has quite a drug problem and that IDF soldiers would regularly trade weapons for drugs with Palestinian Authority thugs.

Drugs were being smuggled in from Egypt and elsewhere in the Middle East through tunnel’s dug from Gaza to the Sinai.

Israel had, and has, a drug problem among its population though we do not hear much about that in the United States. The Palestine Authority thugs frequently exchanged drugs in return for weapons with the Israeli soldiers who guarded them.

Gaza was a smugglers paradise, and there was no law, or agency of the law, to intrude. In truth, the police and other law-enforcement agencies often were complicit.

If this is true, you don't want to be messin' with Jew soldiers' dope.

In all seriousness, the report goes on to indicate that Gaza is a virtual prison with no economy and that Hamas came to power because the Palestinian Authority didn't provide for the people. It also states that the people there are poor and depend on the United Nations for virtually everything. From basic services to food and clothing. So it just stands to reason, when Israel shuts down the borders, the people in Gaza suffer.

Although these rockets are a cause of a lot of the problems, it is against International Law to punish innocent men, women and children as Israel has done. I support Israel in its right to defend itself, I do not support Israel when in restricts humanitarian aid into Gaza as revenge for the rockets. And I don't support Hamas at all. But if they stop the rocket attacks, I see no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to govern Gaza.

Very likely, but this is not the fault of Israel, Israel is attempting to contain Palestinian Lunatics that dearly wish to commit suicide while taking a maximum number of civilians within Israel with them

Hamas came to power because it supplied that which the PLA failed to provide, namely Schools, Hospitals, Clinics.
The PLA had ample money so as to be able to do this, but as is usual most of this money went to provide arms for the PLA security forces as well as their intifada fighters, what was left was able to provide the PLA leadership with a private helicopter and private swiss bank accounts.
Very little of the EU money actually managed to filter down to street level.

Yes the ordinary Palestinians are indeed poor, all the while Hamas remains in power they will be unable to have a decent standard of living, all that Hamas need do is to recognize the agreements made between Israel and previous Palestinian administrations, as soon as Hamas do this and actually live up to those agreements then peace may begin to return.

Of course they suffer, but if Israel did not close down these borders all hell would break loose within Israel.

Civilians are always made to suffer in a war. Civilian suffering is a weapon of war. (See Battle of Atlanta, Blockade- WONA (American Civil War,) Firebombing- Dresden, London Blitz, and Hiroshima)

However saying that, all armies have a drug problem, because armies are based on populations, and populations have drug problems. The insane boredom often associated with military life, makes taking drugs a way to get away from the monotony of military life.

No the violence in Gaza is due to Hamas being assholes, and Isreal being jackasses.. pretty simple.

As far as I'm concerned, the fact that Israel exists, the Palestinians embrace savagery, Palestine was never a country, and the Muhammadans of the region largely supported the Nazis in WWII, makes me quite comfortable supporting the existence if Israel, and indeed seeing it vastly expanded.

I do like the idea of IDF soldiers and Hamas members getting together in one room and smoking a bowl.

What the **** does the history of the jewish people have to do with it?
I mean. If I were a mexican Id hate the U.S. for the genocide of my people 2.
Doesnt give me a right to move into a house across the baorder without authorisation, and then turn texas into a prison society if they make violent moves to resist it.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Israel suffers it on a national level. And behaves accordingly.
Its not an excuse. But I do think it goes someway towards an explanation.Basically, in my opinion, the experiance fo the hollocaust drove a lot of them nuts.

Sadly, if you cannot grasp something so basic, so fundamental, so simple, then I probably cannot explain it to you. I will take contentment from the fact that most people who can read, think and dress themselves will understand.
