Did Democrats Page Mark Foley? (1 Viewer)

Interesting story and I have a feeling when all of the stones are uncovered Foley won't be the only cockroach trying to hid from the light and the GOP won't be the only party getting blasted

That article is a partisan rag and heres why:

1. Studds was censured by a Congress in which the Democrats made up the majority. They also simultaneously censured a Republican congressman for the same crime. There really wasn't anything the Democrats or the Republicans could have done about Studds. They couldn't prosecute him for having sex with a minor because the crime took place on foreign soil where U.S. law does not apply.

2. There is no evidence that Barney Frank knew about the prostitution ring. Frank was never home when Gobie was running prostitutes in and out and Frank kicked him out after he found out what Gobie was doing. On the otherhand, when theres a child prostitution ring run by Republicans, with a Republican clientel which runs all the way up to the White House, people end up dead.

3. Mel Reynolds served his full sentence of 5 years in prison for his relations with a minor. Clinton pardoned him from his conviction of bank fraud after he had already served 3.5 years for the conviction of bank fraud.

I entertain the theory this is insider backstabbing and infighting within the GOP's Florida factions, probably Katherine Harris and friends behind the 'leak', and removing an enemy. It's doubtful the Dems will pick up his seat, it's a safe district. This is payback for the backstabbing and sabotage she got in her Senate race or something. Harris has a real hardon for the Bushes, Jeb and Co. having submarined her on her races after she helped rig their elections for them.

The Reps now have to fill Foley's seat, and the main candidate is a guy who was condiering challenging Harris for the Senate seat.

With them scrambling to replace him, it clears a few out of her way.

The ABC reporter who broke the story did say that his primary source was a Republican.

That's not what the polls show. The Democratic candidate, Mahoney, is polling about 10% ahead of Foley. That lead drops slightly when voters are told that they would be voting for a replacement candidate, but Mahoney is still leading.

John Boehner, the House Majority Leader, publicly stated that the seat is basically a lost cause. I've never heard any politician concede that about even the most obvious landslide. The problem is that to vote for a replacement Republican candidate, the voters have to cast a vote for Mark Foley. And many of them simply are not willing to do that, even knowing that he won't be the representative.

I understood that voters could simply write in a name of someone.

I PREDICT that the majority of seats that are claimed as having been won by the Dems, thereby deposing a GOP, will be contested as having been won by fraud and that the Supreme Court will be asked to adjudicate in most of these instances.

The GOP currently enjoys a power that is rarely theirs, they will not easily give it up.

All Politicians are liars.

I'm pretty cynical about the voting process in Florida, so I don't put much stock in polls from there. You could be right, of course, I don't really know, but hey, it's Florida ...

This is not news much less breaking news. It's a scam editorial.

Yes, my opinion is they'll be lucky to pick up maybe 10 seats, and the GOP will still keep control of Congress. They may pick up a Senate seat or 6, but I have a huge faith in the Democratic Party's truly awesome and almost magical ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of certain victory.

I'm not a Democrat, so I don't really care if they win or not; after the smear jobs they ran on Nader, I pretty much finally figured out they're not any better than the GOP, and I will no longer vote for any candidate running as Democrat or Republican.

The GOP currently enjoys a power that is rarely theirs, they will not easily give it up.

True. But, they will self-destruct internally, some say they already are pretty far along in that process.

It's as much news as any other political story, 'scam' or not.

Really? Are you sure, ptsdkid? I am going to have to look into this. If you are right, thank you for pointing it out. I don't like looking like a dummy when I insult the republican party. ;)

1989!?

2001?!

How about freakin' 2006? Yeah, the dems have skeletons in their closets, but the GOP said they were going to take care of business the right way when they took control. Don't throw up this 1989 and 2001 BS! Foley hosed it up! Hassert tried to cover it up! And yes, I believe there will be more fallout, 'more cockroaches' exposed, and probably from both sides of the aisle....but deal with THAT problem instead of trying to justify it or distract from it by pointing at things that happened 17 and 5 years ago!

You are absolutely correct! Thank you for "fixing" me. ;)

Who knows at this point what's correct, but this is what I've heard....

The Foley e-mails were leaked to ABC News by career Justice Department prosecutors and FBI agents who are incensed that Attorneys General John Ashcroft and Alberto Gonzales covered up the House page scandal for political reasons. I've also read that Jeb Bush may be involved in the cover-up?

You know, I am really fed up with LEAKS and LEAKERS also. They ought to find these guys and fry 'em/fire 'em! No one will, though, because it might dry up all the tasty rumors and news, no matter if it is classified or not, and we sure wouldn't want to miss out on anything! Inquiring minds want to know!

Of course Dems held this info and leaked it strategically one month before the election. If they were truly concerned about the pages, they would have gone public months or years ago.

They did the same thing to Limbaugh, of course. They had a "plant" working as his housekeeper feeding them info on his drug abuse. They held the info until Limbaugh was under fire for his ESPN comments, then released it to try to increase the damage and hopefully get him taken off he air.

Yeah, right..It's all the Dems fault. This is closer to the truth...

Poor 'lil repubs...mean 'ol Dems.:rofl

Why would the FBI and Federal prosecutors care? I haven't seen any reports he committed any kind of a Federal crime.

Soliciting under age sex is a felony, hence, a federal crime.
You can't even have under age sex photos on your computer without it falling under federal jurisdiction.

Well, it's either the Dems fault or Clinton's. No personal responsibility.
Some people should only be allowed to post in the Conspiracy Theories forum....LOL

Where is the story he solicited under age sex? I missed that one.

I know about the 16 year olds, which is the age of consent where he was. I did a quick search and found no new story about soliciting under age sex yet. I can't even find where he actually had sex with the 16 year olds, just silly emails.

OMG, this story is so biased, it has no objectivity. What is pathetic is how desperate the republicans have become as a result of all of their scandals. We reap what we sew.

Yahoo! is now Republican?
