You are the one saying oil is more important to human life when you refuse to let us drill in places like Anwr, off the coast of Calif, Florida etc not to mention your anti fracking stance. Your position is war not wells. As for our use of oil you can only get the 25% number by factoring in countries so poor they can't own cars or even feed themselves, is that what you want for us?
You are ALWAYS going to believe this nonsense, NEVER are you going to stop substituting the 90's for the 2000's, you are ALWAYS going to keep believing the the neocon echo chamber that was Bush's cabinet in 2001. His "threat" in 2003 to the "oil flow" from Kuwait was a phantom, just as was his imagined WMD's and connections to AQ.Saddam was always a threat to the region after he invaded Kuwait thus always a threat to the flow of oil.
You just completely ignore that oil is bought and sold on the world market. Unless you plan to socialize US oil companies as the Socialists want to do, all new oil produced here goes into the world market, and 60% of the worlds affordable is in the middle east, unless you factor in the wars to keep it flowing.
You just can't grasp the law of supply and demand can you.
It is the rule law of supply and demand that I keep trying to explain to you.
The problem is you Want to focus strictly on the demand side, the supply part of the equation eludes you.
There is no affordable way for the US to expand its supply of oil to meet its oil demand, if it were we would have been able to do it at some point since 1971. But we haven't been able to, even when conservatives controlled the white house and both houses of congress. That is why Cheney's Energy Task Force recommended military action in Iraq.
"The United States will overtake Saudi Arabia as the world’s leading oil producer by about 2017 and will become a net oil exporter by 2030, the International Energy Agency said Monday."

Dr. Birol said the agency’s prediction of increasing American self-sufficiency was 55 percent a reflection of more oil production and 45 percent a reflection of improving energy efficiency in the United States, primarily from the Obama administration’s new fuel economy standards for cars. He added that even stronger policies to promote energy efficiency were needed in the United States and many other countries.
Correction: November 12, 2012
An earlier version of this article misstated the International Energy Agency’s prediction of American self-sufficiency in energy production. The agency said 55 percent of the improvement would come from more oil production and 45 percent from improvements in energy efficiency. It did not say that domestic oil production would rise 55 percent.
From the same article:
And a correction:
It cannot happen if people are going to fight driving their gas guzzlers.
If enviros would let us drill here we could walk away from that cess pool.
Point is we can and will increase supply, something Cat denies. I do however believe in both principles of supply and demand not just one like Cat does. As we produce more oil and consume less we can get out of the mid east but increased production is a must, we can't conserve our way out of this dependence on Islam oil.

Supply will increase, but only if the price of oil stays high. Shale oil requires a lot of energy to extract.
It's cheaper to drill there. There's not as much engineering involved, dig a deep enough hole in sand and BINGO. If that wasn't true, we would never have relied on it in the first place.
The point is we can halt the ever escalating price by increased production here.
That's if demand will slow down by at least 45%.
So where did you get that number?
Don't forget to read the correction:

That has nothing to do with keeping the price down, that was about being 100% self sufficient, nice try though.
Of course it does. Supply and demand.
By the way, did you know that Canada has the second largest crude oil reserve in the world? Right now, our gas is $1.25 a litre.
