Devout Catholics Have Better Sex, Study Says

Ladies. smilie_cool_smoking.gif

Though, yea... I am more than a little bit skeptical of the findings of a Family Research Council study reliant mainly on data compiled in 1992.

The Family Research. That's about as surprising as the KKK finding white people were the smartest people in the world...............

I didn't click the link so maybe someone can just tell me....

How the heck do they KNOW that?

Former Catholic women tend to be firecrackers. I think the tinge of guilt adds to the excitement. Plus those outfits they wear in Catholic schools probably bring out the kink.

An informed insider told me that in the late 70s-early '80s most female porn stars were ex-Catholics, the males were mostly Jewish or ex-Jewish.

Deep, probing, repeated research, no doubt.

I don't believe it.

LOL - too funny.

But I don't believe it, either. All the religious people I know struggle with sex and sexuality in general. Does that seem bold? It's true - it's the one thing in my marriage I complain about the least and it's the one thing they seem to complain about the most.

I dunno. Most of the "devout" Catholics I know are basically swimming in children and seem to be pretty happy about it.

They're obviously doing something right when it comes to "inserting slot A into tab B."

We have four kids - we're fine . . . don't need to mix that with religion to pull it off.

If I was catholic - I would have died years ago because of that anti-BC view.

To each their own. I was simply saying that it's rather unlikely that anyone with a large number of children could really be viewed as being "prudish" about sex.

I'm referring to prudish as being 1) no sex talk outside of marriage. 2) firm belief against sex education. 3) firm belief against bc of any kind . . . and having a large number of children doesn't really mean their sex life is stellar or satisfying. It just means they don't try to avoid children as much.

*snip* - decided I didn't want to derail the thread.

Making babies doesn't equal good lovemaking. It's totally an individual thing. That's why the article is dumb.

They're not allowed to have sex outside of marriage, nor get divorced once married.... so once they get married there's probably plenty of pent-up enthusiasm now that they're "legal", and since they can't get divorced they've got a lot of incentive to keep it good!

Perhaps. However, that is not what I would define as "struggling with sex and sexuality in general."

They would appear to be quite comfortable with sex. They simply feel that it should be approached in a certain way.

True enough. I was simply pointing out that they can't exactly be said to be prudish shut-ins either.

They're obviously getting on with one another quite well.

Or they just have no choice but to have sex no matter how they feel about it. . . lest god condemns them to hell or something.

You're such a sourpuss.

You've obviously never had sex with my ex-wife. That's OK, I rarely did. But, we did have children.

Child bearing intercourse and mind blowing sex ain't necessarily the same thing. ;)

When we conceive our daughter - my husband was sick with the flu.

No they just don't use birth control.

I agree, I have had over a decade of mind blowing sex, never a conception.

No they just don't use birth control.

It's called "natural family planning."

There's an old joke that goes "What do you call a woman who practices 'natural family planning'? 'Mom.'" But seriously, it does work if you're scrupulous.

I couldn't help notice this from the article...
"The socially conservative Christian group {the Family Research Council } relied heavily on statistics from the University of Chicago's last National Health and Social Life Survey, conducted in 1992,..." .

Is there any more recent surveys that corroborates this?
