The city of Detroit’s downfall is built around four core ideas: never-ending entitlement spending, the most government employees per capita of any city in America, monstrous debt and the highest property taxes in America. It’s no surprise then that Detroit is hopelessly bankrupt. But wait, isn’t that Obama’s exact prescription for prosperity for the Nation? High taxes, more spending, more debt and more government employees. Bingo. Help isn’t coming, folks. The cavalry isn’t riding in to save you. They are coming to kill us.

Food stamp rolls are growing 75 times as fast as employment. The national debt has increased by 50 percent under Obama, even though he promised to reduce it. Obama promised to reduce health insurance bills for an average American family by $2,500 per year. Instead, your health bills went up by $3,000 per year. The men’s labor participation is the lowest rate ever measured since they started tracking it in 1948. And here’s the clincher: 90 million able-bodied, working-age Americans are not working.

Our middle class now ranks 27th in the world. I’ve argued from day one that Obama’s goal was to create a two-class society. The two classes are the super rich (who are beholden to Obama for corporate welfare and government contracts) and the poor (who are beholden to Obama for checks to survive). Look no further than the new immigration bill to see the final destruction of middle-class wages.

The best jobs are manufacturing jobs. Well, under Obama they are losing out by 10-to-1 versus crummy, low-paying jobs. Facts don’t lie: So far this year more than 246,000 low-paying waiter or bartender jobs have been added to the U.S. economy, versus only 24,000 high-paying manufacturing jobs.

The head of the Internal Revenue Service just testified in front of Congress that he’d rather keep his own health insurance than switch to Obamacare. The IRS is in charge of Obamacare, and they don’t want any part of it.

The EU is in the middle of a Great Depression. Countries like Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece and Cyprus face total disaster. Their economies are ruined for generations to come. Yet America under Obama now has more debt than every country in the European Union, combined. Our country has more government debt than any country in the history of the world.

Some of these I don't see as particularly relevant to the President. The use of Detroit as a weapon to debate federal government's executive branch does not make much sense. A Republican would likely further most of the aspects of Obama's agenda (actually it's not his, in my opinion he's a spokesperson/figurehead).

Suggest a solution to the problems you've laid out?

But wait, isn’t that Obama’s exact prescription for prosperity for the Nation? High taxes, more spending, more debt and more government employees. Bingo. Help isn’t coming, folks. The cavalry isn’t riding in to save you. They are coming to kill us.

High taxes? Obama has advocated that we go back to the tax rates of the Clinton Era, which are still very low in comparison to the past. You'd have a point if he was arguing for us to go back to 70% top tax rates like we have had in the past, but he hasn't. You either don't know what you're talking about or you're just too enamored in your talking points to notice the truth.

More spending? You mean like every other president ever? It's amazing, the guy comes in with a terrible economy and people want him to fix it while at the same time not spending any money, lol. Fairytale land.

More debt? Again, how is this a new feature of Obama?

More government employees? Public employees have decreased under Obama. You don't know what you're talking about.

And I can still add to this. The deficit is on track to be cut by more than half by the end September, spending growth is the slowest it has been in the last 50 years, the private sector has done all the net hiring over the last three years and change, and now the president is advocating a reduction in the role Fannie Mae and Freddic Mac play in the housing market.

For all of this talk about Obama being a big spending, big tax, big government, anti-capitalist, socialist, Communist whatever guy, the rhetoric sure isn't matching the reality.

Total Government Employment Since 1962
Not exactly.

The number of federal employees has not declined, but perhaps local or state numbers have.

The "Bush did it" defense is all you can offer to the man who gave us "hope and change" and delivered none of the above?

Sadly the paraellels of Detroit to the United States Government are too glaring to be ignored. More government is not a
solution its a problem.

Your source states that the number of federal employees dropped from 2010 to 2011. Regardless, the original post was trying to suggest that Obama has went on a rampage of increasing federal workers, when that is not reality. Like everything else in his post. Your source only corroborates what I am pointing out, so thank you.

The lesson of Detroit is, successful cities in GOP run states are driven to bankruptcy by failed conservative policies.

William Milliken, Republican, entered office January 22, 1969, left office January 1, 1983 - the period of the decline of the Detroit auto industry.

You really should not lie with numbers. It went up 200,000 plus in 2009 and up another 13,000 in 2010, so your decline in 2011 leaves almost 200,000 more total federal employees then in 2008. With math like yours guiding the nation its no wonder there is such dispair and bankruptcy.

Could provide verifiable evidence for each of these claims please?

The politics had little to do with the decline of the auto industry.

Poor management, Japanese competition, miserable car quality, bad product portfolio, high labor cost, and a tanked US economy is what hurt the auto companies.

Spin again.

If he started with 4.2M federal employees and now has 4.4M how is that not an increase? Looking at the chart you can see that executive branch staffing is the highest it's been since 1996 and even though we pulled out of Iraq uniformed military personnel have actually INCREASED.

I never cease to be amazed at how some people can look at source figures and still stick to their meme.

So the point is Detroit's situation is complex.

Yes, you need to tell that blax and the other silly conservatives who are spewing out the liberalism bankrupted Detroit meme.

Thanks for the post!

Do you believe that? If so, then why post such absurdity as "conservative policies bankrupted Detroit?"

At the very best, liberal entitlement philosophy failed to do anything good for Detroit. At worst, it directly destroyed it. Your pick.

Read it again

I said automotive companies, not Detroit

Hmm, I wonder if there is any relationship between the fate of Detroit and the auto industry?

So the fate of Detroit isn't complex and we can put the blame squarely on the GOP misrule of Michigan?

Make up your mind!

Your comments are completely nonsensical. It's like talking to a child.

I'm not saying that he's made an over all decrease. I'm saying that the argument that the OP is presenting, that Obama has been hiring federal employees left and right. In reality there have been merely modest increases and even decreases in one year.

Not when making specific reference to the automotive business done directly with consumers

Now you can stop wondering

I would not blame any specific president for federal employment, as the Fed as a whole is it's own
force of nature, growing in numbers, falling in efficiency, and increasing in cost literally by itself.

The Fed is like a monster vampire that feeds on everything in it's path, and then only leaves foul waste in it's path.
