They've done it before, why not?

Sure, why not? Both parties can just keep pointing fingers at the other and accomplish nothing.

The republicans are not giving merrick Garland a senate hearing.

Even Robert Bork got a hearing when he was a nominee.

Well, it's been that way since the election of '08 at any rate. I'm not sure whether the current Congress' childish partisan gamesmanship has ever been so bad before that time.
