Source: Dems warm to Biden’s bunker strategy

I was worried that Biden would be an HRC 2.0. There's many similarities, including his laying-low while Trump takes political hits. But as I look at the numbers, I'm starting to think Biden might be on to something.

Biden's poll numbers vs Trump are constantly improving, Trump's negative approval disparity is constantly increasing, competitive GOP Senate seats are leaning Bluer, and the Generic Congressional Ballot keeps edging further Dem.

A tact of laying low makes me nervous as hell, but it does seem to be working for now. As is stated above in my OP, "Trump is running against Trump". I'd add, "And it seems he's losing!".

The election is not about Biden, the Dems could run anyone but Hillary and still be ahead in the polls. You and I have discussed previously, this is about Trump's fitness for the job. I truly believe his mishandling of the pandemic has sealed Trump's fate. Only a miracle happening with the economy can save him now. We are in a recession, the travel industry has never taken such a low blow, it's devastating for the hospitality sector.

Biden is a ventriloquist dummy that needs its adult diaper changed several times a day, of course they want him out of sight.

All Biden has to do is weigh in every once in a while and look presidential, say the boilerplate things about how great this country is and how we need to unite for the good of everyone. You know, talk like a real president. People like that.

How does the Nasty Old Dip-**** look presidential when he cant finish a sentence?

While Trump definitely doesn't do himself any favors, to characterize Biden as you've done is just nonsense. Biden even said his own name wrong once. Dude is literally falling apart, mentally. Trump is Trump, his issues are mostly character flaws. Biden has character flaws, though no so bad as Trump, plus his mind is just failing. If it were so clear cut, as you said, Trump would be the one that would want less debates, not more. Trump wants more because he wants to force Biden out in the light more, without being able to hide behind edited interviews and such.

Bull****. No matter what Trump would've done, or didn't do, the left would've been screaming into the void, regardless. But again, this is just more of a shell game. Most of the reactions to these issues are on the state governors and mayors, and has almost nothing to do with Trump. But the far-left propaganda machines have successfully deceived people to have them believing all of this is literally in Trump's personal presidential power, taking the spotlight away from all the Democrats that are the real responsible parties that have failed.

Fourteen points, Fish. That's a "one" followed by a "four".

That's how far behind trump is now in the polls. You could fit trump's ass through a gap that wide!

Surprised it has worked so far, but at this point the best bet is for Biden to continue the Diane Douglas strategy and hope people vote for him based on the letter next to his name (or, in this case, his name not being Trump). Also pick a good VP that won't upset either base too much.

So who are the "DC elites" going to choose to replace Biden?

You are flailing. Slink away and I won't abuse you anymore.

They haven't told us yet. My guess is Cuomo.

Parroting Trump doesn't make what you say any truer. Political lanes exist for a reason, and it was clear that the preference for a center and center-left lane over a left lane was substantial.

But we know why you're saying this, because of some silly belief that running socialist Doc Brown for you was preferable to a relatively plain, quiet Democrat.

??? "Parroting Trump" ???

Has Trump said the DNC isn't going to make Biden their candidate? I didn't know that. Do you have a quote?

The DNC Elites don't care about "lane". They only care about who they can get elected. Yeah...they know a socialist won't cut it. They also know that demented Uncle Joe won't cut it, either. They also don't care what the Dem rank and file think. They'll call the shots.

You don't need to make this about me. It's not. I don't care who the DNC trots out for you.

What was it you were saying about liberals being stupid enough to fall for it?

Not for nothing, but there were plenty of liberals I know that also fell for it. The ones that don't 'get into' politics. Why? Because it came from the President, someone they are used to being responsible. Their bad.

No, the biggest difference is people conducting the polls hate Trump more now than then and they are desperate to get the power back.

Also the regular Folks are seeing who is actually hoping for and causing a bad economy and more riots and it ant Trump.

So it all boils down to if you like the results of the polls or not. Typical.

Two different situations. No Pandemic in 2016, no incumbent in 2016 although Hillary went about campaigning that she was a third Obama term. Trump was completely unknown, no one knew how a businessman, TV reality show host would govern, everyone knew exactly how Hillary would govern, perhaps she was too well known. Trump made an ass of himself in 2016 with his in your face, bullying type campaigning. Which surprisingly, a lot of folks found that refreshing. Today, Trump is making an ass of himself which isn't refreshing anymore. Hillary did hide, letting Trump command the airwaves being the number one story reported on everyday.

Now with the pandemic, lying low is expected. Especially now, the official campaign season doesn't start until 1 Sep. At this early point, Trump is out front, dominating the airways being Trump, but being Trump isn't going over very well as a lot of folks have tired of it and his very unpresidential behavior along with his obnoxious persona.

I think until the campaign season rolls around on 1 Sep, letting Trump dominate the airwaves as he has racking up some more negatives is a good campaign strategy. But that all changes on 1 Sep. As long as letting Trump be Trump is benefiting you, don't interrupt. After all, this election, Trump's reelection is more about Trump than about Biden. This is a referendum on Trump. One needs to remember that 54% of all Americans voted against Trump in 2016, the 48% who voted for Hillary plus the 6% who voted third party against both Trump and Hillary. All Biden needs to do is to keep those who voted for Hillary in his column, come across as more liked among those 6% who voted against both Trump and Hillary in 2016 as I doubt many have changed their dislike of Trump and viola, win at least half which is very doable, Biden is at 51%.

Among those 6% Biden isn't as disliked as much as Hillary was and certainly so far, not as much as they dislike Trump. So continue on Joe, lie low and wait until 1 Sep.

Excellent analysis, as always. I would say that Trump isn't commanding the airwaves like he did in 2016. He shares the airwaves with COVID. As long as COVID is there, he can't create the alternate reality of lies that he needs for his base. He can't get rid of COVID. He can't call it names. He can't wish it away. Nothing works.

COVID certainly has thrown a monkey wrench into the Trump campaign. I always said 2016 was the most unique election in our history between the two most disliked and unwanted candidates ever. 2020 with COVID and the rest could be even more unique. I think quite a lot of us thought that when summer rolled around, COVID would be a thing of the past, gone like the Flu season. That hasn't happened either.

I do think Trump still has his base, approximately 40% of the electorate that will stay with him no matter what. I also think some of the independents he won, who voted for him in 2016 have left him. The main reason, there's no Hillary opposing Trump this time. In 2016 70% of independents disliked Hillary, viewed her negatively, even with 57% of independents having the same negative view of Trump, 12% of them voted against both while Trump won those who viewed Trump as the candidate they least wanted to lose, no win, least wanted to lose 46-42.

Biden at last look had a 49% dislike, negative view from independents. That's a far cry from the 70% negative view of Hillary. Fact is the Republican Party is still the smaller of the two major parties, Trump and company must win the independent vote or lose the election. It's quite simple.

I accept your concession. Further, Trump was behind against Hillary as well, and she was predicted to have a 95% chance at winning. That said, I actually wouldn't mind a Biden presidency that much, so long as he's actually healthy enough to make it all the way through. I'm more concerned about him picking some radical for a VP and then dying. If Biden picks a moderate VP then I'm not going to get worked up over him winning. I just hope he doesn't get back on the selling our country out to China if he does win.

Eventually I think there will be a growing suspicion that the dementia claims are real. He may have to show he can hang in there in public before this is over. And if he really does hsve dementia, the clock is ticking and it will likely get worse by the month.
It is so ****en sad this Biden guy is our better choice

Biden will have to come out of his hole eventually...especially if he gets the Dem nomination. (I have my doubts he will.) Avoiding the campaign trail didn't work for Hillary. It won't work for Biden. In any event, Trump isn't campaigning against himself. The media is campaigning against him...for Biden.

One, Hillary did not avoid the campaign trail: those who say she did are simply revealing their ignorance.

Two, indeed Trump is campaigning against himself and beating himself up very badly.

The, the false right wing media is campaigning for Trump and doing a very bad job.

What am I conceding to? Just curious!

There are several instances of trump not knowing where he is and spewing nonsense. As much as you try to convict Biden for his gaffs, trump steps on his private parts with some moronic bs every day.

The only person selling out this country to the Chinese is mango, unless you're going to try to claim that trump is the truth teller and Bolton is the liar.

The problem for the right wing machine is that everything they accuse Biden doing, Trump is guilty of. That won't draw a contrast between Biden and Trump. They need to make up some stuff that Trump hasn't done. Since Trump is a trashy lowlife, that's a tall order.

Thankfully, given how far down trump is in the polls compared to this time last cycle, I think that trump fatigue has started to take hold even among the 2016 trump voters who were on the fence last cycle. The more trump talks and blusters these days, the worse it gets.
