Democrats Seek to Bar U.S. Attacks on Iran
The president does not have the authority to launch military action in Iran without first seeking congressional authorization," Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told the National Press Club.

He doesn't?

According to...?

Tell me how its not in the power of the CinC to undertake "military action" in Iran.

How would a series of air/missile strikes and/or SPECOP raids in/on exceed constitutional the authority of the CinC?

How would nuclear retaliation against Iran be outside the constitutional authority of the CinC?

Doubt if anything the dems can say or do would deter the president, but IMHO, he would be il advised to actually wage war on Iran.
I feel sure that both Russia and China would be none too pleased as well as France which also has extensive contracts with Iran.
But in theory, Bush will do whatever he believes his God (Cheney) tells him to do.

This isnt the issue.

The issue is Reid's position that the CinC must get an OK from Congress before he exercises the constitutional powers of the CinC.

Whatever happened to the seperation of powers?

Democrats say they want a "diplomatic solution" in Iran.
Who doesn't?
I don't think anyone wants another war, but what diplomatic options are there for the US at this point?
The diplomatic ball seems to be completely in Iran's court. What Iran wants is time to polish up their nuke program. Time, in the form of more "diplomacy," seems to be exactly what the Democrats want to promise Iran through congressional legislation.

I do not presume to be an authority on this subject.

That said, I see a more likely scenario than the US attacking Iran first: that ultimately Israel will drag the US into a conflict with Iran by launching the first strike, prompting the US to defend Israel against Iranian retaliation. I think a similar situation played out in the early 1980s when Israel bombed a French-built Iraqi nuke plant, except Iraq wasn't as militarily capable to retaliate as Iran is, and Iraq was a US ally at the time.

So can someone point me to where the President has said we are going to attack Iran?

I am feeling out of the loop.
