Texas senator tells rightwing group Republicans must block For the People Act or lose power for years

Claiming Democrats want to expand voting rights to “illegal aliens” and “child molesters”, the Texas senator Ted Cruz warned that if Republicans do not block the For the People Act, major legislation now before the Senate, they will be out of power for years.

Cruz also said there was no room for compromise, according to the Associated Press, which cited a recording of a call hosted by the American Legislative Exchange Council, or Alec, a rightwing group which writes and pushes conservative legislation at the state level.

Democrats say the bill passed by the US House, also known as HR1, is the only way they can counter voter-suppression legislation under consideration in many Republican-held states, aimed at reducing the voting power of groups, many of them minorities, that traditionally back Democrats.

The Repubs are in the minority. That they just lost 2 branches of the government, they are going balls-out to pass new vote suppression regulations, especially in GA. They are reacting to the last election rapidly as they know they will be out of power for years to come.

So Ted Cruz is being Ted cruz

He's just telling the base what it wants to hear. Illegals rarely vote. Child molesters already vote - those who haven't been caught and convicted or those who've served their sentence, so unless there's a kiddie porn party out there to advance their interest I'd imagine they vote for the same candidates as anyone else, depending where their politics lie. Of course no point thinking practically. We all know Ted only threw the term out there as a nod to QAnon.

He earned his ugly wife.

Seems a bit crazy for democrats to rule out themselves .

Honest but surprising .

And Sen. Cruz tried to stop the peaceful transfer of power. His words mean nothing to anyone other than himself.

The two new voting rights bills - H.R.1 and H.R.4 - also make campaign "dark money" finances more transparent.

The Republicans do not want Americans to see who is contributing to their campaigns and in what amounts.

If Cruz is against it then it's probably a good bill.

He earned his ugly wife.

A display of misogyny and bullying from a self-identified "Liberal".

I'm not shocked. All of their pet concerns are phony.

" Illegals rarely vote." - Wow. Tell me, how often should they be allowed to vote? Rarely or more often?

Less often? How about never?

"Look, our message is real. Our beliefs bear fruit. We are vindicated by history. We win on ideas.

But, see, none of that works unless we restrict who votes."

Nope.

Cancun Cruz is one of the reactionaries trying to market themselves to the Trump base. Racism, xenophobia, chest beating and all the old right wing talk radio tropes and tricks are his tools.

They always have been.

I actually can’t see Ted Cruz on TV without imagining 1-800-PAY-CRUZ flashing across the screen under him.

Mostly a joke. I have no idea what she looks like and it doesn't matter to begin with. It was a dig about Trump calling his wife ugly (the only way he evaluates women) and Cruz lowering himself to write a love letter to Trump after the fact. The incident offends me as a Texan.

No one can help their beauty. I know I am a regular looking fella with no underwear modeling deal in my future. Cruz rolling over like a bitch when that Orange Turd shit on his wife? We Real Texans don't go for that.

Actually, that was a Trump quote.
