Finally. Hope this stirs others to bring suits in the states which have instituted various "voter fraud" laws intended to decrease the number of voters from certain demographics.

Democrats to sue Arizona over voter access

The lawsuit will cite the long lines from last month's presidential preference election as well as other election practices as disenfranchising voters, especially minorities, the DNC said in a statement.

"Republicans are using every tool, every legal loophole and every fear tactic they can think of to take aim at voting rights wherever they can," said DNC Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida congresswoman.

The DNC said it will ask the U.S. District Court in Phoenix to require Maricopa County to submit all its polling locations for the November general election to the court for review, to ensure the plan would not discriminate against minority voters.

That's so freaking stupid.

The polls in Maricopa County were open to all voters registered in either the Democrat or Republican party. Democrats were no more inconvenienced than Republicans were.

its essentially a concession by Debbie Whatshername Nutz that Democrat voters are less intellectually capable than Republican voters

Yes, it would seem that is a possibility except for a couple problems that were noted within a few hours of the Arizona primary

. . . some predominantly Latino areas got one or none polling places essentially translates into voter suppression. . . . “In my district, there is only one polling place,’’ Sen. Martin Quezada said in a written statement. “In my neighboring district, LD 30, there are no polling places.” . . . it is no coincidence many poor and predominantly Latino areas didn’t get a polling place. (Maricopa County Recorder Helen) Purcell and her staff figured few of them vote anyway.

She just decided to discount them. Really.

There were multiple reports of Democratic voters being told they were on the rolls as Independent or Libertarian and therefore they couldn't vote

The Secretary of State has a pretty decent website and you can check where your polling place is and how you are registered in a matter of a few clicks. That can all be done well in advance of any election too so if they didn't know what was going on that's their fault, not the state's fault. Maricopa County reduced the number of polling locations for everyone, not just Latinos.

this is dumb!

the problem was that the number of polling places was reduced in AZ, how does the republican legislature hurt a democratic primary.

What was the excuse for cutting the number of polling places from 200 in the 2012 primaries to 60 this year? Why did Pima County have twice as many polling places with only one third the population of Maricopa County?

While both rich and poor areas were hurt by a lack of polling sites this year, a wide swath of predominantly minority and lower-income areas in west Phoenix and east Glendale, along with south Phoenix, were particularly lacking in polling sites compared with 2012. Poorer areas of east and west Mesa lacked polling sites as well, as did south Avondale and much of Goodyear.

However, more wealthy areas of Gilbert, Chandler, Ahwatukee Foothills and north Scottsdale also were more than three miles from a voting site.
. . .

The ever so small matter is that many of those in the poorer districts don't have the transportation to get to a distant polling place and often they can't afford to take 5 or 6 hours off from work to stand in line to vote.
Those in more densely populated areas more often lack access to automobiles, and therefore, the lack of polls is felt more acutely, he said.

The result: Poor voters are more disenfranchised by not having a nearby polling site than those in a more affluent areas

The polling places were reduced because most voters were mailing in ballots instead of going to the polls and that also answers the second part of your question because registered voters don't even need to leave their house to vote.

That is absolutely the lamest and stupidest reason to have fewer polling stations..

In today's climate of voting laws, the many debates going on dealing with voter access, and the dubious means out there to increase disenfranchised voters... it was not very bright of Arizona to go forward with plans to decrease polling sites to this degree.

I get looking for cost cutting measures, but this does not look good.

Maybe if the democrats stop shipping in the Mexican voters the line wouldn't be so dam long . :lamo

Me too, then they can be proven wrong and we can finally move on.

Democrats seems to suffer disproportionately from the Zika Virus.

again you forget this isn't about logic an reason but EMO ranting.
emotional arguments is where it is at.

it doesn't matter if they are based in fact.

the OP doesn't even show what the issue was just some liberals crying again.
when I went to vote I had to wait. I guess I was being discriminated against
because I am white.

umm actually it isn't. There is no reason to have a ton of polling places if the majority of people are mailing in their ballots.
it is dumb and stupid to expend resources where they are not needed.

as long as people have access to vote and there is a place that is close to their location then no one is being hurt.

Everyone gets an absentee ballot, but apparently, liberals are too stupid to know how to use the US mail as well. You cant disenfranchise the stupid; they tend to disenfranchise themselves.

Sorry but access to vote is the main thing in an election. By reducing this access you hurt democracy. There should be as many polling stations as needed. My little town back in Denmark population under 500 people, has 2 polling stations at every election. These polling stations have been there since forever.. one is in the local school and the other in the local community center. It makes it easy and simple to vote. One place has one booth and the other a couple. In the big cities we also have little distance to the voting booth.. usually within a mile at most.

Now they could put them together or even move it to the major town in the area, but all that would do would be to disenfranchise people from actually voting.... especially the elderly who would have much longer distances to go to vote.

There is an old saying in Denmark.. elections are local..

Oh and dont try to use the tired old excuse "but the US is a big country"..

Photo ID doesn't help black men in Wisconsin.

"A Black Man Brought 3 Forms of ID to the Polls in Wisconsin. He Still Couldn’t Vote.

Three hundred thousand registered voters in Wisconsin lack a government-issued photo ID, and many have faced great difficulty obtaining one. ..."

So you're whining about a black man who didn't bother to get his **** in order when he moved from Illinois to Wisconsin. His birth certificate was screwed up. Leftwing kook Bill Moyer probably had to search long and hard to find the worst case he could to make his politically charged point.
