WASHINGTON (AP) — Call it the chaos theory for picking the next House speaker.

Those Democrats trying to stop California Rep. Nancy Pelosi from reclaiming the job say they don’t need a rival candidate just yet. Instead, they plan to show that Pelosi lacks the votes to win the race. And then, they say, new challengers will emerge.

Good. I can't stand Pelosi. She's a do nothing loser like Hillary Clinton. A conservative.

Pelosi’s House passed comprehensive health reform, the last minimum wage hike, Waxman-Markey, the DREAM Act, the Employee Free Choice Act, got rid of FFELP in favor of Direct student loans, reauthorized CHIP, and on and on.

Really don't care about any of that stuff. She's the past, a hack. Will the conservative Democrats every wake up to the reality that Trump is president because the Dems did nothing.

Republicans hate her because she's an effective leader. That's why they directed the smear machine against her. It works remarkably well, as evidenced by many of the posters here. The facts is that the Democrats need someone with her experience at the helm. No one is immortal though, especially in politics. What we need is a system to nurture and develop future leaders while continuing to benefit from the current ones.

Nice try but I vote for Democrats. Pelosi is the reason the Democrats handed the White House to Trump.

I'm curious, what makes Pelosi a poor choice?

Probably cause her and Bernie don't get along, relatively speaking of course.

The years 2006 to 2012. Her theatrics with Schumer allowed for Democrats to lose 60+ seats and guided us to the mess we have today. One where Democrats are trying to keep control of a single body of government just to have a chance in 2020.

You doubt what?

That it was Pelosi's fault that the Democrats lost the election. There were a lot of reasons for that and a lot of blame to go around. To put the blame on one person is just scapegoating. Pelosi is an experienced and effective legislative leader. we need her.

They've seemed to have supported each other quite a bit lately. Is there something significant you're thinking of?

I didn't pay attention to politics much in that period, what did she do?

When voting, I generally support DEM candidates. While I have respect and admiration for Pelosi's deft political skills and many legislative accomplishments, I want change at the top... and hope someone other than Pelosi becomes Speaker.

You don't have to like her, but claiming she's a "do nothing loser" is objectively not true.

Certainly not her alone but she is part of the problem. "Impeachment is off the table?"--Pelosi on GW Bush. What leader defangs her own party?!

There is a certain validity to that notion, but there is also a danger.

1. If they can talk people into opposing Pelosi for Speaker, someone might rise up as a challenger when the time comes. If that happens, those people very well could vote for the challenger instead of Pelosi.

2. However...if a challenger doesn't arise or if they just don't like that challenger...the **** is going to hit the fan for all those who have publicly opposed Pelosi. She WILL get her revenge.

Sucks to be a Dem right about now. I predict they play it safe. Pelosi is voted Speaker by a landslide.

The reason for the Democrats' loss was moving their centers of power from local communities to DC. I don't know whose decision that was.

I think dems are pretty unified in general. But comparing one dem to another, Bernie is more socialist then Pelosi, while Bernie is more about grass root campaign and lower income bracket building while Pelosi is more globalist and well entrenched in wall st and corporations.
