More economic ignorance coming from the democrat party. This will only exacerbate the problem.

If such a ridiculous idea actually becomes law, the demand for fuel will inevitably INCREASE, therefore driving the price up even further.

Temporary repeal of onerous state and federal excise taxes, seems a much more practical and targeted action that would give some help to drivers. In Michigan, for example, our Governor and other democrat leaders have sent a letter to the federal government asking for a repeal of the federal excise tax on gasoline. Despite that request, our governor appears poised to veto legislation passed by the Michigan House and Senate to repeal the state excise tax on gasoline.

"With the price of gas rising across the U.S., lawmakers are developing a string of proposals to help motorists - from $400 rebates for all taxpayers in California to imposing windfall taxes on oil companies or a sliding scale of payments that could net families as much as $300 every month."

"
And lawmakers across the country are pushing legislation to bring down prices at the pumps.

A new bill proposed by three Democrats - Reps. Mike Thompson of California, John Larson of Connecticut and Lauren Underwood of Illinois - could be worth $300 each month to some families if the price of a gallon stays above $4.

'Americans are feeling the impact at the pump of Vladimir Putin's illegal invasion of Ukraine, and right now we must work together on commonsense policy solutions to ease the financial burden that my constituents are feeling,' Thompson said in a news release.

'The Putin Price Hike is putting strain on our economy, and I am proud to be working with Reps. Larson and Underwood to introduce this legislation to provide middle-class Americans with monthly payments to ease the financial burden of this global crises.'

Their plan follows the model of COVID economic impact payments - offering $100 for single filers earning less than $75,000, plus $100 for each dependent.

It is just one of a series of proposals unveiled recently.

In California, Democratic lawmakers want a $400 rebate for taxpayers - costing about $9 billion drawn from the state's budget surplus and equivalent to the average gas tax paid by residents over a year.

quote
Oil Production and Oil Pricing is a National Security Concern
end quote

If anyone does not understand that, try living a week without what Oil Energy Provides

It will remain a High Priority National Security Concern, until we build a more expansive system where Renewable Energy is the National Standard and that is more than a Decade or More away.

People need to wake the heck up!!!

Stop making insidious comments and trying to be funny, and deal with the principle of what is National Security.

Many commentators come to these forums
void of critical thinking; many come here insulting a debate forum to obsess with their insidiousness of playing their partisan ignorance games.
'Every Person" in America and "Every System" that Serves This Nation functions well because of "Energy" an currently "Oil" is the core source of Energy for the Nation.

People need to wake the heck up!!!

Either think intellegently, or just stop with the insidious game playing for ego spin and self delusions.

Looks like some good old fashioned Socialism to the rescue, thats what it looks like to me SuperD.
As usual, Democrats actually attempt to help struggling Americans, and I support it.

Now: WHERE IS MY CHECK?!?!?

Wouldn't it be better just to eliminate the gas taxes first?

And this nonsense about "coming to the rescue" -- not too long ago, every Democrat I talked to was telling me that we were paying way too little for gas, and that we should be paying European prices, more like $7 to $9 a gallon, and that was needed to help stop climate change to incentivize getting us to green energy options....

High gas prices is what the Left wanted. Now they think high gas prices should be remedied by $100 or $400 checks? What is this bullshit? You people can't be serious. You people can't be this pig ignorant.

<snip>
I'll assume they're looking pushing for a broad checks since the impact of gasoline prices has a wider reach than just motorists (e.g. food prices etc.). If not, then that's a lot of money which could end up in the hands of people who don't even own cars. The thing is whether it's a temporary end to Federal and state gas taxes or the checks, either will exacerbate the problem since the demand for fuel will be aided by both.

"Adorable"! LOL!

"To the rescue"? "Attempts" do not equal "help" when they are so transparently political and ineffective. Just a "sugar high" in attempt to stave off a massive electoral defeat this November.

As usual, democrats are trying to get the ignorant masses to believe that they are trying to "help", when in reality they are only making the problem worse.

Nothing new under the sun.

Remove environmental regulations and return to the era of burning rivers and toxic waste dumps.
Oh you mean like the countries that we are begging to increase production?

Stop with the straw men.

What is the single worst oil SUBSIDY?

Remember a reduction in taxes is NOT a "subsidy".
There aren't any. It's a myth. When oil companies take tax deductions that any business can take, the Democrats call it a subsidy.

Yup, the republican solution is turn back the clock and have a more primitive society like those other countries.

Just think of it as a price support for the current cost of oil.
