Democrats pick senator in intensive care to lead spending subcommittee

In a strange move, the Democrats have elected Senator Tim Johnson to head the Appropriations Committee. Problem is, this is the same Senator Johnson who is still in intensive care, and still in critical condition, after emergency brain surgery last month.

Sorry, folks, but I just don't get this. The Democrats seem every bit as adept as President Bush at making stupid decisions. This year is going to be very interesting.

I dont see the problem. The Republicans chose a known racist hypocrite half (brain) dead old man to be their main representive on the Foreign relations committee for years..

Plus, he will most likely recover, so he needs something to do when he comes back

That's not my point. The Democrats set a tough schedule, then put someone in place who is unable to perform.

yea but as I said, they had to put him somewhere no? If they leave him out of assignments due to the illness, then they almost admit they dont believe that he will come back and so on.

Except, of course, the Dems can change chairman assignemrnts whenever they want to, and so there's no reason to not put someone else there temporarily and replace him with Johnson when he comes back.
