Democrats Could Win Back the House Thanks to Trump Being as “Popular as Head Lice”

“Conventional wisdom and math have long created the narrative that it would take Democrats many election cycles too overcome the Republican 30 seat majority in the House. And then along came Donald Trump. The House is actually in play, thanks to Donald Trump, who in suburban districts is “about as popular as head lice.”

“……………..So said Jack Pitney said to USA Today. Pitney is now a political science professor at Claremont McKenna College but during a leave was the Acting Director of the Research Department of the Republican National Committee...........

.......In other words, these are not the words of a liberal partisan: Trump is as popular as head lice. Trump will put Republicans in jeopardy, especially in suburban districts………

……………. In fact, the Cook Political Report downgraded Republicans’ chances in 10 districts on March 18th, according to Politico......."

It’s unlikely that Democrats are prepared to seize on this opportunity, but the mere fact that analysts have put the House in play due to the rhetoric of the Republican front-runner shows just how dangerous Trump is to the survival of the Republican Party………………..

People are stirred up now.. "Democrat" and "Republican" are about to mean much much less..

Keep thinking in terms of the status quo and get left in the dust..

Re: Democrats Could Win Back the House Thanks to Trump Being as “Popular as Head Lice

it depends on who the democrats place on the national ballot

if Bernie, then his supporters will come out in droves to vote for him
others democrats will show up to vote against tRump

but if hillary is the presidential nominee, few will make the effort to come out and support/vote for her
democrats will still show up to vote against tRump

and that lack of support for hillary might end the quest to control the house

That's actually a myth. There is an enthusiasm gap on the Dem side but it swings the opposite way.

There's a reason Hillary leads Bernie by 2.5+ million votes.

there's a reason Bernie is filling stadiums and hillary can barely attract any audience
and hillary says it best:
He Gets the Crowds, I Get the Votes
Bernie was an unknown when this contest began
now it is truly competitive

we will know which of us was correct by early november

Given that you seem to agree with her that she wins the votes, I'm not sure what you're suggesting it is.

Anyway, this is the "Romney's going to win PA [and other states he was never going to win]!" argument from 2012. Turned out his crowd sizes didn't matter even a little.

hillary did earn the early victories, before Bernie and his candidacy got traction
and yes, hillary will still get the black vote - at least those who are not young voters
but notice which candidate is on a winning surge
damn 80% of the voters turned out for Bernie in a recent race

my point is voters like me will stay home if hillary is the candidate
the only hope she has is that we will care enough to vote AGAINST tRump or cruz, because we sure aren't going to turn out FOR her
and i believe that is true across the political spectrum, from yellow dog democrats to liberals to republicans
and that would not be the case if Bernie is the presidential nominee

She has lots of money to spend on propaganda.

And she lies well.

She'll be a one termer if she swings back to center right after winning.

Re: Democrats Could Win Back the House Thanks to Trump Being as “Popular as Head Lice

She has lots of money to spend on propaganda.

Bernie's been out raising and outspending her for months. His burn rate is quite high and hasn't really been producing (e.g., he outspent her in Ohio and lost by 14 points). So no, money hasn't been his problem. And it's not why the enthusiasm gap favors her.

Romney's crowd sizes were often mocked. I'm not sure why you're bringing up Romney's crowd size to try and support your argument.

Sorry. I can't make it any clearer. ;)

Re: Democrats Could Win Back the House Thanks to Trump Being as “Popular as Head Lice

Romney's crowd sizes were often mocked. I'm not sure why you're bringing up Romney's crowd size to try and support your argument.

Romneyites cited crowd sizes to support the "unskewed polls" nonsense to disregard polling showing he would lose decisively.

Bernieites cite crowd sizes to sweep away 1) the massive vote and delegate hole he's currently in, and 2) polling showing he will lose in the remaining large primary states.

What is unclear about what I'm saying?

Re: Democrats Could Win Back the House Thanks to Trump Being as “Popular as Head Lice

If Trump is so damn unpopular, then how can he have the most delegates? Unpopular people do not command the most votes for their party, like he does.

Re: Democrats Could Win Back the House Thanks to Trump Being as “Popular as Head Lice

the only way that will happen is if the republican party denies trump the nomination. if 50% of the party stays home on election day, democrats will win overwhelming landslides in the house, senate, and presidential elections. the supreme court will also flip overwhelming democrat over the next 8 years. the way to avoid that scenario is simple; trump is the leading republican candidate, get behind him, he puts states like new york, new jersey, california, and others in play for the republican party for the first time in decades.

the democrats might have the same problem, you think sanders voters are going to turnout when the only way Hilary won the nomination is with 'super' delegates?

stop thinking of this in terms of the status quo, trump/sanders/cruz support combined=anti establishment. that's 75% of voters. 75%. we don't agree on much, but we agree that the system must be torn down.

Oh sure. What are they going to run on ? Obama Care ? The economy? Foreign policy ?

We were hearing the exact same kind of nonsense back in 2014.

They were going to turn Texas blue too

Because there have been so many Republican contenders.

When you look at votes cast 37.11% have supported Trump, 62.89% have voted against him. If the field hadn't been so big for so long, trump wouldn't be in the lead in terms of delegates. The problem was the fracturing of the party.

Trump 7,863,052 (37.11%)
Cruz 5,782,142 (27.29%)
Kasich 2,822,210 (13.32%)
Rubio 3,470,384 (16.38%)
Carson 692,764 (3.27%)
Bush 254,521 (1.20%)
Paul 56,451 (0.27%)
Christie 52,679 (0.25%)
Huckabee 47,263 (0.22%)
Fiorina 35,297 (0.17%)
Santorum 15,774 (0.07%)
Gilmore 2,671 (0.01%)
Others 94,652 (0.45%)

Total 21,189,860 (100%)

That is pretty much a silly comparison for the following reason.
If you do the same for the others it means more voted against them than against Trump.
e.g.: 72.715% voted against Cruz.
Etc...

It is additionally silly as they really are not voting against but are voting for a favorite while having second choices.
Those second choices come into play when their favorite is no longer available.

Here is an example of previously polled second choices.

Trump doesn't have the most votes. He has only slightly more than 1/3 of the votes cast in the Republican primaries.

Trump has the most delegates because the GOP put up everyone but Cleveland's dog catcher... ;)

He has the bat crap crazy vote all but sewn up (Cruz has a share of them) and the less insane voters are split out among the rest. So he has more delegates but also be far sort of winning the nomination and have far more GOP voters against him than for him.

I call it the Clown Car Effect... :peace

And BTW

In 2014 those GOP clowns said they would get Congress moving and do things...............that Congress GOP controlled is the least productive in history and only claim to fame is renaming Post Offices..........

“According to conservative “political communications consultant” Curtis Ellis, writing at World Net Daily, Donald Trump is just fine with women, and women with him, because the ladies – “often the keeper of the family budget” – dig Trump’s “economic nationalism message.”…………

…. CNN’s own polling published March 31 mirrors Gallup’s:

Overall, 73% of female voters in a mid-March CNN/ORC poll said they had a negative view of Trump, just 26% view him positively. That unfavorable number is up 14 points in the last few months: from 59% in December and 67% in late February. Even Republican women, who mostly have favorable views of Trump, are more likely to report unfavorable opinions now than they were a few months ago………….”

Saying it’s so does not make it so…………..at the rate of the women’s’ revulsion with the Trump message and style there is no way in hill Trump can win and will go down by a landslide in vote and Electoral College………….. GO DONALD……………KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
