Our forefathers did not want a democracy deciding our laws but a representative government. These representatives would be our congress composed of the house and senate. In a democracy the people would vote on the laws. We don't vote on laws but elect representatives to vote on laws.

It is still all decided by votes isn't it? That is what I said to begin with, "let the votes decide what happens" and right now the VOTES are against building a wall, meaning that if Trump was voted into office to represent our government, he should live by what the votes say. Am I wrong?

The democrats want stolen tax dollars flowing to union government workers, if they don’t give up border wall money to reopen the government they won’t give it up period. Pelosi has said so much. Leave the government shut down until the next election if need be.

Can you try that again in English, because the above makes zero sense.

For instance....the likelihood is that if the wall DID get built, union workers would probably be doing the work. Ergo, those "stolen tax dollars" you speak of would indeed be flowing to union government workers, or at the least unionized government contractors, of which I don't know one that a Republican didn't love.

Secondly, I will give you the same chance to prove your claim that I gave someone else.....please provide the link and the quote from Nancy Pelosi stating that she didn't intend to give money for border security. There are parameters to that, however. It cannot be a quote of her saying she wouldn't allocate money for a wall, because even CBP department heads have come out and said that there are better ways to secure the border than a wall, and she said she was completely on board with giving money to ANY of those solutions. So again, to recap....give us the link to the quote of Nancy stating she had no intention of securing the border.

Now I Agree the rich and powerful that fund and own both parties want cheap labor. The illegal aliens and legal immigrants provide that cheap labor allowing the rich to get around paying hard working citizens a fair wage ant to continue to be rich. Everyone knows this. It has been going on in this country for hundreds of years. Unless you have the IQ of brick.

The wall merely allows less border patrol agents the ability to secure more of our border. That is the primary function of walls. They are in use and work all over the world by the millions if not billions. The wall is merely the first and very inexpensive step in solving the catastrophe that is our immigration nightmare.

Whatever is needed is what he said. Nonetheless, he also said that what needs to happen is for an intelligent study by experts done that would clearly state what are the best ways to protect our borders.

He did say that Trump does not have any credible information about border security and what is the best way to protect our borders and that all he is doing is trying to build the wall so he can fulfill his campaign promise to his base.

He went on to say that the Democrats will not give in to the hostage situation that Trump has created and that they will not talk or give in until the government shut down is over.

I personally believe this makes a lot of common sense, do you?

Well, the border patrol agents on the front line at ground zero have said they need a wall to slow the illegals down. Who knows better than they do?

The Democratic Party is wasting $1 billion per day no different than throwing it into a fire - now more money that the entire 300 miles Trump wants to add to the 700 miles of existing Pelosi-Schumer border barrier. The question is not how much will those extra 300 miles cost, but now many billions and billions and billions of dollars will the Democratic Party burn to not have it.

The biggest problem I see is that once illegals step across the border illegally then they can just put their hands up and be arrested and claim asylum. I'm all for any ideas on border security but if having more drones and cameras only means that we will be able to find them and arrest them after crossing the border and then claiming asylum doesn't change our current situation one bit. We need to stop people from crossing the border illegally and then claiming asylum.

Since when has all the party platform been accomplished? I have been around for 73 years and never before has any party platform been fulfilled by more than 10 or at most 20%. In addition, this wall platform was dead in the water before it even began because it was voted on with the caveat that "Mexico will pay for it" and that was something neither Trump nor the Republican party could ever guarantee.

I do not believe that if the reality of building a wall across the Mexican border at a cost to us of $75 billion plus was on the ticket that it would have been voted favorably by the populace.The reality is that there has never been any consensus to build a wall with us paying for it. If Mexico pays for it, then there would be more people in favor of it being built as there would be no "financial skin off of our back".

Hard to take someone serious who would have no chance of getting elected unless he lived in the gerrymandered majority minority district he represents. Clyburn's district, SC - 6, is one of many where 1 in 5 use food stamps. Perhaps he should spend more time worrying about the poor economic situation where he represents that playing politics because he hates Trump.

Are you sane? The closing of the government was done by Trump. He did not have to close it. In fact, he stated clearly on TV that he was taking the blame for it. Over 800,000 innocent people (many of them Republicans and Trump supporters) are getting hurt. Trump has said "give me the wall and I will end the shutdown, don't give me the wall and I will keep on hurting people, even though many are fans of mine".

What does his action have anything to do with Democrats that are Trump haters? It is a hostage situation in which he caused it, he can fix it, and he alone is trying to force the democrats to do something or more pain will occur. Yes. Border security in the US is like an IUD. We try to kinda stop illegal immigration but once the illegal has 'impregnated' the US, we give them 'life' and free health care and free education and Social Security benefits.
