What are communist parties, really? They're parties that pursue total one party power for themselves, and use the state to protect their power, and the interests of a small elite.

It's what China has, it's what North Korea has, it's what Russia has even if it's not called communist, and it's what Democrats fight for.

Democrats want to say they're not communist - but Russia and China have 'private industry'. We might think of our billionaires as the opposite of communism - I'll point you to Chinese billionaires, who are being created faster than the US, and Russia's oligarchs.

This communism is fundamentally opposed to democracy - 'the power of the people', keeping power, policies, and wealth more balanced, more distributed. Democrats might not call it communism, but they are pursuing the same 'total power pursuit' one party rule communist parties do, and have made themselves the enemies of democracy and the friends of an elite class who try to take all wealth.

Democrats are the American communist party. Talk about Communism being Marx and old communist ideas is a deflection to hide what they do - just as it is in China, North Korea and Russia. Communism is one party rule, control of information, political tyranny, an elite largely above the law taking the wealth the country creates, etc.

Incorrect. What you describe is authoritarianism, which is closer to the modern day democracy-hating Trump/DeSantis-style Republican Party than the Democratic Party.

Every day I wakeup and pray that we lived in the world Republicans think we live in.

Communism in it's actual implementation IS a form of authoritarianism coupled with collectivism.

From an implementation and practical aspect, it tends to get to authoritarianism, yes. But so does laissez-faire capitalism. They are both ideals that sound better on paper than what they end up turning into when they are actually implemented.

When you compare the two parties lust for power at any cost you come up with the Democrat Party? Right.

exactly why capitalism needs regulation by a democratic government. no disagreement about that.

The Overton window for folks on the right has shifted so far that they view a capitalist, pro-corporate, center-right party as Communist and it's sad and hilarious at the same time.
Conservatives don't understand your big words or complex ideas. Please stop because you are just confusing them.

(10 points for the use of the Overton window)

I have people looking at me like I just stepped off a UFO when I try to explain that I am a mixed market socialist on economics and a civil libertarian on rights. To anyone who took civic and economics my words are very simple to understand.

What a stupid post.

If anyone isn't aware, this is an attempt to flip my thread about how Republicans are America's communist party.

I laughed out loud at how weak it is; it backfired, only reinforcing the truth about the Republicans.

He tries. You should see who his DP role models are.

China hasn't been communist since the 1980s. They are authoritarian and capitalist. They verge on fascism.

I touched on the shift in the way that the Chinese economy is being run in the course of a post the other day:

The Chinese state . . . has moved a long way from communism and, indeed, the relatively freewheeling era that followed the Deng-era reforms. Instead the “People’s Republic” is rapidly evolving into a regime run on fairly classic fascist lines, even if that fascism comes with, as the phrase goes, “Chinese characteristics.” While fascism frequently involves strong elements of “state capitalism” (then and now: Think of Mussolini’s IRI), another important element within its economic history is the notion of “harnessed” capitalism, a system that is designed to exploit some of the dynamism of capitalism — companies remain privately owned — while ultimately subordinated to the interests of the state.

Chan concludes:

Taken together, “authoritarian” …hardly feels enough, nor does it feel accurate. That is a disservice to the public. Journalists, politicians and others should consider calling elements of the Chinese state fascistic, if they are not entirely comfortable describing the state writ large as fascist.
We may be facing an absence of existing terminology to properly describe contemporary China. But that behooves us to rethink our vocabulary and not dismiss the f-word out of hand.

Indeed we shouldn’t. If China is not already a fascist state, it soon will be, albeit one with Chinese characteristics.

But it may not be...

Commies! Commies! Commies!🤡

I think it's past 'verge on'.

Did you see my sourced link? China is fascist with an Asian spin.
I didn't read it, but have my opinion that China's fascism seems more of a 'super fascism' than 'verging' on fascism. Its headline seems to suggest China is fascist, which I agree with.

When you folks reveal your thought processes to us it is never not funny. 😂

You got the first statement factually wrong and based on that poor foundation, the rest of your comment was an illogical train wreck.

I suggest looking up the definition of communism and trying again.

Do you blame young people for wanting something different? Look at the last 20 years. I think we were better off in the 90s than we are right now. 9/11, Iraq War, Las Vegas Shooting, Boston Marathon Bomber, Stoneman Douglas Shooting, Covid, inflation, Russia/Ukraine, polarization of our politics, George Floyd, January 6th, Beltway Sniper, hell the Northeast Blackout, the Texas freeze, MS-13, polarization on abortion, the Anthrax scares, Hurrican Katrina exposing infrastructure weaknesses, 2008-2009 Recession, the Deepwater Horizon explosion, the return of ISIS... should I go on?

Seems to me like the younger generation (ages say 25 and younger) have only see turmoil. Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden, Presidents from both sides of the aisle just running everything. No wonder the younger generation wants something different. We have shown them absolutely nothing

You were far more polite than I would have been.
