FiveThirtyEight now projects 40 seats, exceeding the pre-election maximum pickup prediction of 38, with the possibility of an even higher number when all is said and done. A wave that keeps on waving.

Election infrastructure seriously needs to be a part of this never-coming "infrastructure spending bill."

How many days has it been since the election and states are still counting/certifying?

Unfortunately it's a state issue. The Feds really can't touch it very well.

The races in some districts was SO CLOSE that it is better for them to take their time and count ALL votes. We don't want a repeat of 2000 when Florida stopped the recount and the democrats just caved in ....for the good of the country.

Agreed here too. Every vote should count and count every vote.

^^^That is a problem. And some folks cheer Russian (or any friendly - for them) interference, so it won't change until things change at the state level.

their popular vote win also surpasses the GOP's popular vote win in 2010.

2018 was arguably a bigger rebuke of Trump than 2010 was of Obama, and this is despite Trump benefitting from a great economy. The fact that he lost the most seats for a GOP president since Nixon despite the strong economy speaks volumes to how awful he is as president.

Without Gerrymandering, it would be an even bigger number. But, it's still a wave, despite gerrymandering.

It's blatant fraud and theft, and once again the opposition party refuses to do anything. When election counting goes on for weeks and the elections all flip in one direction, it's corrupt.

This is a banana republic, plain and simple.

It takes time to "find" new ballots. They'll keep counting until they get the result they want.

You mean where they counted votes for Gore that weren't even punched for Gore? You think that Democrats just gave up in that election?

Agreed, nor should they unless there is some criminal action involved.
And they won't even look into obvious criminality because Republicans are controlled opposition.

Bush didn't have a Republican senate after his first two years. Neither did his dad. Nor Ford.

Only Reagan pulled it off, and he actually lost senate seats in that election.

And without population replacement through immigration, there would be a Republican super majority.

The Democrats owe their success this year to independents. Independents voted 54 to 42 for Democratic congressional candidates. This is the first time since 2008 that independents voted for Democratic congressional candidates over Republican congressional candidates. Here's your history:

Independent congressional and pickup of seats.

2006 independents voted Democratic by a margin of 57-39 over Republicans with 4% voting third party. Democrats picked up 33 house seats. Democrats regained control of the house.

2008 Independents voted 51-47 for Democratic congressional candidates. Democrats picked up 21 house seats.

2010 independents voted 56-37 for Republican congressional candidates with 7% voting third party. Republican picked up 63 house seats. Republican regained control of the house.

2012 Independents voted 50-49 for Republican congressional candidates. Republicans lost 8 house seats.

2014 independents voted 52-46 for Republican congressional candidates. Republicans gained 13 house seats.

2016 Independents voted 51-47 for Republican congressional candidates. Republicans lost 6 house seats.

2018 Independents voted 54-42 for Democratic congressional candidates with 4% voting third party. Democrats picked up 37 seats with 5 seats not yet decided.

I would add this warning. If the Democratic controlled House does America's business, America as a whole and not just the Democratic base's business. They will remain in control for quite a long time. Over the last two years, the Republican house went about only Trump's business, the GOP base's business. Because of that, they got thumped.

Just keep this in mind, what independents give, they can take away. Ask the Republicans of 2006, ask the Democrats of 2010 or the Republicans of 2018. Forget political vendettas, concentrate on America as a whole. Keep in mind today Democrats make up only 30% of the total electorate, Republicans 28%, independents 40%. Here's what most of what independents want.

Bummer you can't demonstrate that there's any fraud and theft happening.

What does the bible say about dishonesty?

It'll probably start getting longer being that mail-in ballots are becoming normalized and used more.

Good point. I myself changed clothes five times to cast my extra votes.

Too much trouble. I just voted, then untied one shoe and voted again. Then untied the other shoe for the third vote. Turned my shirt inside out...

you get the gist.

2020 state elections will be what really shapes the future. A redistricting is coming.

Infrastructure is not a priority. Health insurance...ACA fixes first. Then we will see how committed the GOP is to the American people that wanted to keep and fix the ACA.

You can not have massive tax givaways and infrastructure bills at the same time.
