Kentucky governor election results: Democrat Andy Beshear defeats Republican Matt Bevin - Vox
It’s a huge win for Democrats in a very conservative state.

Trump won Ky by 30 points in 2016, this is a very red state. This is a bad omen for repubs in 2020
Bevin had all sorts of issues and Beshear's father was a popular governor. I will agree it might be seen as a slap against Trump given he campaigned for Bevin last night but there were tons of ads of people who said
I suport Trump, and I still support Trump but I am not voting for Bevin again
and where were all those "I'd rather be a Russian than a democrat" Trumpsters? Hmmmmm? They fell asleep? what?

Yeah, we predicted that would be the narrative, but Trump won by 30%, still, you gotta admit, it's not a good omen for repubs in 2020, and where were all those "I'd rather be a Russian than a democrat" Trumpsters? Hmmmmm? They fell asleep? what?

Apparently Kentucky likes socialism.

...but its consistent with most of the races we have seen since Trump was elected.... an erosion of Republican performance vis a vis what had been normal before Trump. Democrats are winning in districts that once favored Republicans; Republicans are barely winning where they once won going away.
They certainly used to. Appalachia saw some of the most brutal bloodshed during the fight against capitalist control during the early 20th century. If you ever want to read some really nutty stuff, look up the Battle of Blair Mountain - ten thousand miners once laid siege to an entrenched police position, and even made some decent advances before the National Guard put down the uprising. The battle may have been a loss, but the war for the right to organize labor unions sure as hell succeeded.
I wonder to this day what was wrong with those miners back then? They had jobs in the most hellish backbreaking conditions many dying from black lung but they had jobs the ungrateful bastards. This is the way republicans think of business. To hell that the job is life threatening and medically deadly because after all the owners of the mine probably never stepped foot inside of it. Pay a pittance to those who are making you even more wealthy and tell them they should be happy to have a job. Unions bad, living wages bad, keeping the top ten percent the top ten percent, good.

Democrats are winning in districts that once favored Republicans; Republicans are barely winning where they once won going away. This is similar to many of the interim and special elections of 2017 and 2018 that served as the canary for 2018. Is this indicative of 2020? It certainly will not serve to bolster the confidence of Republicans. Some restless nights ahead at the RNC.
This is great! I guess there goes the narrative that impeachment is ruining the Dems. Moscow Mitch might not sleep too good tonight.

CBS is still saying it is too close to call.
hard to say
5000 votes out of 1.4M total votes is pretty close. I am actually surprised there is not an automatic re-count provision.
Either way, however, my point stands.... the Dems have been "over-performing" since Trump was elected.
Not much different than when Obama and Bush and Clinton were in office. CBS just called it for Beshear. one commentator I heard said the libertarian cost Bevin reelection.
:lamoMaybe they read the transcript.
