The left wing Democrat who will become chairman of the House Judiciary Committee if his party wins back Congress in November wants to hold full blown congressional hearings on whether the government should pay African Americans reparations for slavery.

(What did I say in another post, about how the Democrats were going to take this country BACKWARDS if they regain power, NOT FORWRDS! :doh )

Michigan Rep. John Conyers has attracted attention in recent months for his House resolution calling for an impeachment investigation against President Bush. (Ala Feingold's introduction of legislation to Censure Bush for his use of a LEGAL Program. )

But another Conyers cause-celeb is reparations, which he's been advocating since 1989, when he first introduced legislation to establish what he calls, "The Commission to Study Reparations Proposals for African American Act." ( H.R. 40)

"I chose the number of the bill, 40, as a symbol of the forty acres and a mule that the United States initially promised freed slaves. This unfulfilled promise and the serious devastation that slavery had on African-American lives has never been officially recognized by the United States Government . . . "
[- Can someone please tell Mr. Conyers that it is time to come into the 21st Century, that there are no more living freed-slaves. BTW, the plight of slavery WAS recognized by the U.S. Goverment! Although not the sole reason, slavery had an important factor in the Civil War, a war in which this country paid the cost of thousands of lives in the freeing of slaves. one of our constitutional Amendments addresses the plight of slavery and abolishes its practices. Many laws today address discrimination....the declaration that this country has not recognized the seriousness of slavery is just BS and can be considered pandering to minorities! Also, as many prominent Blacks like Bill Cosby have said, today's blacks need to stop using slavery as a crutch! Slavery has been abolished for many years! Groups like the NAACP and politicians like Conyers keep promoting racism in this country for their own personal reasons, whether it is for votes - like Conyers - or for Cash - like the NAACP (as the 'business' of racism has become a multi-million dollar a year industry to groups like the NAACP)!]

He goes on:

"Just as we've discussed the Holocaust, and Japanese interment camps, and to some extent the devastation that the colonists inflicted upon the Indians, we must talk about slavery and its continued effects."

[So, now we are going to discuss reparations to Indians, Japanese...what about the Chinese, Irish, Polish, Norweigians, etc who were brought here to work on the railroad and other industries/endeavors? Yep, we need to start making a list of everyone we need to pay off, creating a long line of nationalities/people with their hand out, believeing that the Goverment OWES them! As one comedian I heard said, "I did not own anyslaves. My dad did not own slaves. My grandfather did not own slaves. His father and HIS father did not own slaves. I do not know anyone who used to be a slave. None of their fathers were slaves. None of their fathers or THEIR fathers were slaves! So I don't want any of my tax dollars going out to anyone as 'Reparations for Slavery', something that hasn't been around for something like a hundred frickin' years! If anyone should be paying anyone for slavery, it should be the G*@%$ politicians paying ALL OF US for holding us all slaves to their BS!"]

So, let me get this straight - if the Democrats regain Power,

Pelosi has promised to exact revenge for Clinton's Impeachment by Impeaching Bush.....

Conyers wants to pay reparations to blacks for slavery in this country.

Now all we need is Huey Lewis and the News singing the song from the movie 'Back to the Future'! (Gotta get back in time....)

I wouldnt worry about it....they will likely be as true to the promises as Bush has been about his.

This is typical EZ propaganda. A goofball democrat talks about slavery repriations and all of a sudden it becomes a democrat campaign promise.
Gimme a break.

Republican Claims Cindy Sheehan is Right!

Why Cindy Sheehan is Right!
By David Duke

Cindy Sheehan, a mother who lost a son in the Iraq War, is determined to prevent other mothers and fathers from experiencing the same loss.

Courageously she has gone to Texas near the ranch of President Bush and braved the elements and a hostile Jewish supremacist media to demand a meeting with him and a good explanation why her son and other’s sons and daughters must die and be disfigured in a war for Israel rather than for America. <snip> http://www.davidduke.com/index_print.php?p=350

:rofl Those darned anti-semetic Republicans!

Hey Captain DEMOCRAT, stop trying to change thse subject when someone starts a post you are uncomfortable talking about/admitting about your party!

This "Goofball Democrat" is poised to become Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee should the Democrats win back power, and he says this issue is one of his Top Priotities. So I am not pulling this out of my rear - He keeps putting this up time and again and is poised to gain more power, power to push this harder than ever before!

I can't help the fact that, with regaining power right at their finger tips, the Democrats are scaring the h@ll out of Americans and giving them pause/concern by declaring the 1st things they will do is:

1. Impeach Bush to get even...

2. Not only eliminate the Bush tax cuts that have this economy better than it has been in a LONG time but RAISE taxes as well...

& Last but not least,

3. Give Reparations for Slavery!

As scary as this all is, I am loving it because...can you say SELF-DESTRUCT?!

2 words for ya - Michael Dukakis! Remember that geek in the tank. Everyone said that hurt his chance for President, but the nail in his coffin was his declaration that he was going to raise taxes and eliminate all the money the goverment was 'foolishly' giving to the people...much like the Democrats are declaring today.

Dragging America back in time instead of leadiong them into the future, by going after Bush for revenge and talking '40 acres & a mule' for slaves, is just icing on the cake! :rofl

This guy is an idiot. The rest of the Democratics are adults and are unlikely to do what he says.

Intertesting.....coming from someone who starts every other sentance with..."But Clinton...."

Unless its a thread on Bush failures, then every sentance you post seems to have Clinton in it.

Hate to break it to ya but David Duke isn't a Republican and if anything he'd be a Dixiecrat and he doesn't even live in America he's an ex-pat.

Obama's pretty cool.

I really don't know enough about him to formulate an opinion but his refusal to fill out the NPAT (national political awareness test) as to his positions on the issues makes me apprehensive and makes me figure he's an opportunist, but upon studying his voting record, just now, he did vote yes on the defense budget, the patriot act, and the tax cuts. Looks to me like he's in the wrong party and probably runs as a Democrat because there's no way in hell a Republican can win in Illinois. I also don't like the fact that he voted no on the National Defense Authorization Act - Cloture in order to end the fillibuster on the defense appropriations bill of 2006.

Thank God I live in Illinois, where we have some decent representation.

As far as Dem campaign promises...that wasn't a Dem campaign promise.

And I agree with an earlier poster, even if reparations are true, it means no more then Bush saying he's going to do something about abortion when he first campaigned.

Say what you think you need to say to get elected...then ignore the people that put you in office...which is precisely what Bush has done.

This is why the GOP is abandoning Bush.

You declaring the GOP is the only ones guilty of that is like nancy Pelosi trying to say the GOP began the culture of corruption. The whole reason the DNC lost the White House and Control of Congress is because they were doing the exact same thing - saying what they thought people wanted to hear and then ignoring the people who voted them in.

As far as the GOP abandoning Bush - it is more like they are abandoning his POLL NUMBERS! The Port deal was a prime example of the GOP dumping their leader fior fear of what Americans would think. The idea of UAE gaining the contract for one of our ports scared the mess out of them, and they turned on bush instead of trying to educate people to the truth.

The truth is that approx. 40% of our ports contracts are owned by foreign businesses. The truth is/was that AMERICANS work those ports despite who may own the contract. The truth is that the INs/Immigration and Coast Guard still provides the security. And, UAE is one of our 'allies' - Just because they are our 'ally' though, doesn't mean they should be owning the contract to one of our ports now. But they caused panic among people who had no idea that other ports were 'run' by foreign nations! The GOP were just running from whast they thought would be a voter backlash. Same now - they are running from the low poll numbers.

I have often said that leaders do not lead or make their decisions based on Poll numbers. I still stand by that - leaders study the issue and then do wjhat they believe is right! Any of the GOP running from Bush's poll numbers are 'doing what they think they have to do to get re-elected.....not necessarily leading and/or doing what they think is the right thing to do.
