When deleting posts, is there something like a number of deleted posts per day and person which is acceptable and a point where it is too much?

It's good to see you finally setting some goals for yourself, but I do believe those who have suggested such had something else in mind.

What do you think they had in mind?

Be more specific in the question:
1. You can delete your own posts within 30 mins, but only if they are a reply to a topic. If you are starting a new thread, you cannot delete it.
2. Mods have liberty to delete threads, but better dern well have a good reason.

Edit: The deletes above are only 'soft' deletes - the mod staff can still see the deleted (hidden from public) posts .

I am only talking about posts deleted by the person who posted it. If a person makes posts and deletes them during this 30 min span, is there like a recommendation how often a person can do this before it becomes too much?

At this point I can not exclude that this is actually the case, this is why I'm asking.

Are you trying to find out how often you can send a real STINGER of a post to someone's e-mail notification and delete it before you get in trouble? tsk...tsk...tsk...:naughty

Because the mods can see the deleted (hidden) posts, sometimes we go through and clean them up. When that occurs, we may let the user know because they may get an automated PM.

There is no "set" amount, but if there are many deleted posts viewable by the mods it can be cumbersome for participating in the forums. We have asked a few to be weary of excessively deleting posts. They take up alot of unproductive space.

Good point, Felicity. Hadn't thought of this before.

Instead of posting on-the-fly, take some time to think about what you want to say and then have the care to preview before you submit your post. If you have any pride in your posting ethic, this is what you should always do.

I would never do such a thing....but I'm pretty sure it has happened to me before. Kinda leaves you staring at the screen with your mouth open and your hands hovering over the keyboard...and no place to say the great retort you have waiting to fly from your fingertips. It's very passive agressive IMO, but I just tell myself "oh, they thought better of that lousy comment and deleted it--good."

I've seen it apparently happen to others, too, who respond directly from their e-mail. They may comment on a post or a portion of a post that was in the original submission, but was subsequently deleted.

I've had it happen to me several times.

I took comfort in the fact that the feeling was mutual.

No, my deleted post usually don't differ much from the other ones, they are not intended to get deleted when they get posted.

Ok, I see, this is how things work.

Yes, the preview feature is helpful.

:rofl @ Felicity. That's what it seems like to me. That's why one is suppose to think before he or she types then post.

Well, all I can figure is that either Volker has this particular plot in mind, or he's concerned he often posts before he thinks--to the point that it could cause disruption to his posting privileges. It's very curious...but I'm not accusing him of anything...but his evasiveness on his reasons for asking seems curious too.

I've had this happen to me a couple of times. Usually the deleted and posted post only differ slightly, though, on a few occasions, that hasn't been the case. It never seemed intentional, however. And I agree, I use the preview feature to check for gramatical errors and to see how the post sounds before I hit the 'Submit Reply' button. Sometimes I'll edit within the first minute or two if I notice something, glaring, after I post...like I just did.
