This video goes into some detail on a number of defensive shoots and should give the gun grabbers something to talk about.

This one goes into a lot of detail on one incident and discusses the importance of situational awareness.

I really like the analysis in the bottom shooting. great tactics. hope the mope was toast

Soo interesting. Thank you for posting this.

that's like saying you don't need a fire brigade to put out ALL fires. But if you are faced with a major fire, your little 20 dollar Home Depot fire extinguisher isn't going to work. And if you are a 120 pound 40 year old housewife facing two Graduates of FCI Marion who want to rape you, not having a gun is probably going to lead to such things as severe bodily trauma, STDs and perhaps pregnancy

in most cases, a gun is the best choice when dealing with a violent attacker

If you are willing to risk your well being and are a skilled mall ninja such as Jet, no, you don't need a gun. Still as goofy as the first time you said it. According to him however, women and elderly, should simply be compliant victims and accept their lot in life as the weakest links.
Bet I can guess which one Jet prefers...
personally, I prefer the one on the right.

There are probably cases where someone was told he needed surgery to survive say lung cancer or a bad heart valve and the patient instead turned to faith healing and managed to survive. And there is at least one case of a military aviator who jumped out of a bomber in WWII, more than a mile above ground, without a parachute, who survived (his plane was on fire, he couldn't get to his chute and he figured burning alive was the worst option so he jumped at 10,000 feet IIRC). and using Jet's logic, you don't need surgery if you have cancer and you don't need a parachute to jump out of a plane.

Just FYI...

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Director – Steven Spielberg

While chasing Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) after she’s been kidnapped, archaeologist and adventurer Dr. Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) runs into a large sword-wielding bad guy dressed all in black. Instead of fighting him in what would surely be a losing whip versus sword battle, Indy simply pulls out his revolver, puts the man down with one shot and moves on.

The original script called for a long sword fight but a day earlier Ford got a severe case of food poisoning and didn’t have the energy to film the scene as written. After a discussion with director Steven Spielberg, the scene was changed and became an iconic part of Indiana Jones mythos.

Just FYI...

I know why he did that. Other films have copied that-Army of Darkness IIRC where the guy uses his shotgun to blow away some demons. anyway, for some problems, a firearm is the ideal solution

But it is extremely advisable to have one as proven by 23 surveys. You could also choose to be a statistic.

(chuckle)

Dude, the guy who fought off armed robbers without a gun was washing his car, so what special skills were needed?

Point is - ya' don't need one.

Of course. Whatever you say Jet. You never did say which of the two woman in that first picture you preferred. Odd.

Point is, you are making a universal statement knowing full well it cannot possibly apply to every scenario/situation. That is a profoundly stupid thing to say. A more reasoned, intelligent thing to say would be," You don't need a gun in every situation. Good n some, not in others". Do you agree with that statement? What would your son say?

Point is Bret, YOU guys are making a blanket statement knowing full well it's not true for every case. That's the point Bret: you don't need a gun.

No that is not correct. The point is some lucky person may not need one. Statistically you have a far better chance if you have one. 23 Surveys agree on that unanimously.

Not always, but it sure helps!

Corrrect. And that scene in Indian Jones cemented the advantage!

Since I assume you mean "every" to mean at least one I'm gonna say statistically speaking putting your life on the line because you cannot read survey data or statistics and have a great fairy godmother might be pushing your luck. Most sensible people have a fire extinguisher for the same reason. Unfortunately there are people who insist on becoming Darwin award winners when it comes to taking unnecessary risk.

The point is, people who don't need a gun have no problem defending themselves.

Here's an unarmed woman doing the same thing.

Yeah it always works out in the movies just the way you want it.

You're avoid reality again.

Oh! Dear are you impressed by anecdotal evidence and fairy godmothers?

Of course it does and at that distance being shot while playing with you sword might look a bit suspicious in court. Facts are a million or more defend body, life and property every year with a gun. I'm not sure how many get away by hand to hand combat. I'm going to say it would not be recommended when carrying a firearm is not that difficult.
