Death from Complications of ?

Because without the addition of covid, there would of been no death.
And, if one doesn’t get heart disease, living with diabetes could also result in no death.

So you think the people born in 1940 are going to naturally live forever unless they die of Covid?
Okaaaay. That has nothing to do with my post.

There was a sharp increase in 2020 of overall deaths compared to previous years and a sharp increase in overall deaths compared to expected deaths. Why do you think that happened?

Read the link I provided, it has the facts and data.

That’s what we used to call it. Someone who has diabetes yet dies of Artery disease died due to complications from Diabetes. Other examples of co-morbidities exist as well

We know that Covid goes after those with existing medical conditions. When someone who has diabetes dies and has Covid, why is the death not classified as a ‘complication’ from Diabetes instead of shouting from the rooftops they died of Covid?

Because if they hadn't been infected with Covid, they almost certainly wouldn't have died.

That's like calling "drowning" a "complication of not being a fish."

Because... They died from COVID-19.

You can live a long, long, long time if you have diabetes.

You may not live long if you have diabetes and COVID.

The diabetes made you more vulnerable to the effects of COVID. But it wasn't diabetes that killed you.

Oh, and COVID is not unique in this respect. We tally lots of other diseases, notably influenza, the same way. If you have diabetes and you get the flu, and the flu fills your lungs with fluid, then that qualifies as a flu death.

C'mon, man. It's been a year. COVID has killed 500,000 Americans in that time. This should not even be debated at this point.

The metric is always whether a person would still be alive if he was not infected with the virus. So in your example a person would be classified as dying from covid with complications of diabetes.

Have you explained yet why you feel the distinction is important?

In either case, no pre-existing condition or having one...the person would not have died if they didnt catch CV19. CV19 is the cause of death.

(Yes, everyone dies eventually, let's not use that as a diversion.)

OTOH, medical authorities do find value in being more specific in records and death certificates so that they can identify resistance, immunity, and other characteristics from the effects of the virus.
