Deadly Russian heat wave gravest over millennium

"Global Warming" isn't just a trend of everything getting hotter, it's more of a disruption of established climate patterns. While most times things will be hotter, sometimes things will get cooler as the climate patterns go wonky.

We have a term for that. "Climate, changes".

When people make the argument that global warming will be a benign thing that improves crop yields, we'll start pointing them to Russia 2010.

Temperatures continue well below average in Southern California

A little girl has her shoes put back on after her feet were washed in the water fountain at Lacy Park in San Marino Monday August 9, 2010. Weather Service says its been four degrees cooler than it was last year at this time and we could be on track for one of the coolest summers on record. They're blaming La Nina, saying we normally get cooler summers during years when we transition from El Nino to La Nina, which is forecast for this winter. (SGVN/Staff Photo by Walt Mancini/SXCity) It hasn't been the coolest summer on record, but it's been close, forecasters say.

The average temperature in July was 79 degrees, five degrees below normal, and the first eight days of this month also have been five to six degrees below normal, weather experts said.

That could put Southern California on track for a near-record-low summer, but it's still too early to say, according to weather experts. The Los Angeles area, in fact, has had below-normal temperatures every month since April.

Again... as I said... "global warming" is actually more of a destablization of the climate that will lead to larger flucations in weather, though on the whole, hotter.

2010 on Track to Be Warmest On Record : Discovery News

The sweltering heat baking the eastern United States is part of a global trend. Last month was the warmest June on record, and so far, 2010 is the warmest year ever recorded, according to data released yesterday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association.

The data represent an average of surface temperature measurements over both land and oceans worldwide.

These findings and those of other agencies that track global temperatures paint the same picture, said Mark Serreze, director of the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

"The point of the matter is that global warming has not stopped," he said.

Average temperatures for 2010 to date were 1.22 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the 20th-century average, NOAA reported.

"The interesting thing about it is the temperature anomaly map for June shows it was pretty much warm everywhere over land except for a few places," said David Easterling, of NOAA's National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C., which released the data. "That's somewhat of an uncommon pattern to see almost all the land mass being that warm."

Only the U.S. Pacific Northwest, northern Europe and southern China were cooler than average, according to NOAA.

Hobo, it seems some here at DP have trouble differentiating between global and localized weather. Not sure why... it's some type of mental block, I think.

Moscow is global and Southern California is local............ got it.

The interesting thing about the map is how much red is on it. This is a much more complete picture than a reading of the weather in Moscow or SoCal
