Opinion piece by Christiana Figueres, who spearheaded the Paris climate accord and Greta Thunberg who is leading a global school strike for climate. About the urgent need for action on climate change and the great oppurtunities to transform our societies.

"
Bold decisive action on coal, combustion engines and crop burning — across direct operations, investment portfolios and supply chains — requires real leadership. While these steps are being implemented in some places, it is not yet enough.

That’s why in nearly every continent, students have joined the school strike for climate, declaring that they want a different future, that they are unstoppable and that another world is possible. Tens of thousands of students in Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Australia and elsewhere have joined the strike. Their leadership is powerful. Transformational change is coming.

The two of us are from different generations, yet we stand together in Davos, hoping to be joined by more people of all ages and from all places. We are going to do everything we can to put an end to dirty fuels and dirty air so we can improve the prospects of people everywhere. The future is going to be tremendous."

Since the largest environmental disaster in the World since the Tunguska meteor, namely Donald Trump, has represented proudly the billionaire class of the World, we reap the harvest. That would be gold for billionaires and environmental disaster for our children and grandchildren. He won't be arrested, go to jail or be tried because just like GWBush, the leader of torture, chaos, destruction and death, he'll be protected by the Corporatism that profits so handsomely from environmental destruction a/k/a human habitat destruction.

That link is not from this years World Economic Forum but from 2016. You link also have this quote.

"By contrast, a wider survey of economists, academics and civil society also produced by the WEF listed climate change as the biggest potential threat to the global economy in 2016. A failure of climate change mitigation and adaptation was seen as likely to have a bigger impact than the spread of weapons of mass destruction, water crises, mass involuntary migration and a severe energy price shock."

The World Economic Forum has also released its Global Risks Report 2019, there climate change and climate change–related risks dominate the list.

"The World Economic Forum has released its Global Risks Report 2019 to coincide with its annual meeting taking place this week in Davos, Switzerland. For the third year in a row, climate change and climate change–related risks dominate the list, accounting for five of the top 10 by both likelihood and impact.

The risks, which are drawn from the views of the WEF’s global network of leaders in business, civil society and government, included the failure of climate-change mitigation and adaptation, extreme weather events, natural disasters, biodiversity loss and water crises. Food insecurity and large-scale involuntary migration also ranked highly."

You also have many companies taking part in the transition away from fossil. For example 150 of the world’s most influential companies have committed to source 100 percent renewable electricity. Even if you still have a huge lack of responsibility then it comes to climate change, among the political and economic elite.

I don't know why anyone, in their right mind, thinks the world's people are ready to be united under one government entity, for anything.
