EU referendum live: David Cameron resigns as UK shocks the world by voting for Brexit

In a speech outside 10 Downing Street he said:
"The British people have voted to leave the EU and their will must be respected.
The will of the British people is an instruction that must be delivered.
There can be no doubt about the result.
Across the world people have been watching the choice that Britain has made.
This will require strong, determined and committed leadership.
I am very proud to have been Prime Minister of this country for six years.
I have held nothing back.
The british people have made a very clear decision to
I think the country requires fresh leadership.
I do not think I can be the captain to take the country to its next destination.
In my view I think we should have a new prime minister in place by the start of the Conservative conference in October."

Yea, can't blame him. Why should he clean up the mess the "people" created. Let Nigel Farage take over and let's see where he takes the country.

It's about time someone in the EU woke up from the Socialist nightmare.

I was rather surprised at how badly he seemed to be running the referendum. They did not use the real arguments very much, didn't produce simple and understandable numbers but instead used fear as a main driver. I do understand that one might think that fear of the unknown of such dimension could be enough to sway a rational population. But to rely on it, is inexcusable.

Johnson is just holding a heartfelt obituary for Cameron.

Cheap universal medical care, very few mass shootings, state pension, it is a real nightmare.

I have a feeling that the next UK PM will be the last one because the UK will dissolve once the Scots vote for independence.

So he obviously has no hope for Britain anymore, otherwise he would do whatever it took to make the best of the situation. Do you think he'll move to a another country?

The Scots can vote all they want, the UK still has to let them go and without the EU they need all they have to be whole. I wouldn't be surprised if the UK held them in.

If the Scots vote to go the UK cannot force them to stay. Violence wont happen.

The thing about a monarchy is they can force you to stay. Would England willing drown itself to avoid violence? The answer seems an obvious no but it's clear that nationalism is in the majority these days and I wouldn't rule anything out.

It's refreshing to see a national leader that listens to the will of the people.

Actually, it is very interesting to watch France right now. What you are seeing is social democracy foundering. This is at the center of the unrest in the streets. The Socialists see that the country is falling behind at an accelerating pace and that they must trash most of the social programs to salvage the seat at the front table.

Sad that the Scots do not believe in democracy.
