Dave Chappelle Attacked by Man with Replica Gun at LA Comedy Festival

The comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked during a performance in Los Angeles, according to witnesses and videos of the incident posted online.

Footage showed someone running on stage and tackling Chappelle during his performance at the Netflix Is a Joke festival at Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night. The incident took place as the comedian was closing the show and thanking earlier performers including Chris Rock, Leslie Jones and Jon Stewart.

Chappelle, 48, was apparently unharmed and returned to the stage to finish his set, joking to the audience that the attacker “was a trans man” – a reference to the uproar his comments about gender had caused in the trans community.

Word is it some whacked out LGBTQ nutjob..
I agree. I don't think a normal person who is not confused about their sex would get offended by Chappelle's jokes.

A comedian's security team quashes an attack by fake firearm, and your take is that no comedians are safe?

You don't think that's maybe just a bit of an overreaction?

I'm going to have to go out on a limb (not really) and bet that people who show up to commiserate with Dave Chappelle are doing it because they think that when he built trans references into his routine, he was signalling allegiance with their hateful position. I wonder when those people are going to remember his intense focus on racism in America...

I am pleased Mr. Chappelle was not injured, he's quite hilarious

Uhh, Chapelle wasn't the one who attacked the nutjob, it's the nutjob who attacked Chapelle.

A comedian shouldn't need a security team -- he should be free to tell the jokes he wants.

Chapelle has joked about a lot of people - black, white, asian, men, women, etc, etc -- he didn't single out trans

Chappelle was funnier back when he was honest. His anti-trans schtick is disingenuous and comes from a hateful place, and he thinks his audience is too dumb to pick up on it.

His "jokes" about trans people have some distinct differences that make them not really jokes and actively harmful.

If you don’t like a comedian, simply don’t listen to them. resorting to attacking someone should never be an option. I hope the attacker seeks out some mental health help along with dealing with the legal repercussions for their actions
