Danbury, Connecticut will name sewage plant after John Oliver

Mayor says plant is ‘full of crap just like you, John’

Officials in Danbury, Connecticut, say they will name their sewage plant after the comedian John Oliver, in retaliation for an expletive-filled rant about the city on his HBO show.

Mayor Mark Boughton announced the move on his Facebook page.

“We are going to rename it the John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant,” the Republican mayor said. “Why? Because it’s full of crap just like you, John.”

In a recent episode of HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the British-born comic explored racial disparities in the jury selection process, citing problems in Hartford and New Britain.

“If you’re going to forget a town in Connecticut,” he said, “why not forget Danbury? Because, and this is true, **** Danbury!”

It wasn’t clear what prompted the outburst. Oliver’s agent did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I hope they're in on the joke because John does not seem to have any ****s to give. He enjoys tormenting people who are bothered by his schtick.

His HBO show is great, but he was even better when he did stand-up. He came through Boston every winter for several years. Saw him maybe six or seven times. Then he took over the Daily Show for a bit, then he got his own show and...well... the closest he's come since is Foxwoods. More than a little bit of a drive...

Think about it - in both cases, Sewage treatment plant and John Oliver, they are trying to remove crap from the system so people downstream are less likely to suffer

For those of you who don't know, John Oliver jokingly went after Danbury CT on last week's show. It was hiliarious. Said there was an open invitation for anyone from Danbury CT for an ass-whooping.

After GW Bush took us to war in Iraq. San Franciscans were pissed about him getting us into what would clearly be a quagmire. They put on the ballot a measure to rename the sewage plant the GW Bush Sewage Plant. The measure failed. :lamo

Danbury mayor chickened out and the sewer plant will not be named after John Oliver. So John is now offering 55 000 dollars to local charities if they follow through and name the plant after him. There he also have had the sign made. There the offer also comes with the threat that neighboring towns will get the offer instead if the Danbury decline.
