The list of Dallas mayor candidates is sure a long one this time. The campaigns by each of the candidates competing for the position of the mayor of Dallas is sure to heat up now that the elections are just a few months away. The supremacy of none of the candidates can be entirely ruled out as money is being spent in millions to turn the votes in their favor. At each campaign, the candidates are releasing new and improved techniques and issues to turn crowd support in their favor.
While the present mayor Laura Miller is also confidently preparing to get re-elected, the other contenders on the scene include Texas Instruments executive Phil Ritter, former Mayor Pro Tem Max Wells, musician and journalist Zac Crain, Dallas lawyer Darrell Jordan, council member Bill Blaydes, Mayor Pro Tem Don Hill, former council member Veletta Forsythe Lill, businessman Edward Okpa, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Elba Garcia and council member Ed Oakley.
Most candidates have made the issue of homelessness the most important agenda of their campaigns. As of 2006, the citizens of Dallas ranked homelessness the 3rd most important issue facing the community. The first and second places went to crime and drugs respectively. While it is great to see that people have finally recognized what an important issue homelessness is, the city authorities have yet to include an actual funding in the budget. While the people demand solutions, the city is paying them lip service.
