Daily Show Meets its Match

I've always thought there was an untapped audience out there of people who like the John Stewart-style comedy but are annoyed by all the frivolous material and liberal spin of the Daily Show.

Apparently I wasn't alone. The Fox News Channel has debuted its "1/2 Hour News Hour," the conservative answer to the Daily Show, and it is a riot!

Here's some video on the show (airing Sunday nights at 10 p.m.):

I really didn't think the show was that funny, but thats just my opinion.

I also thought it proved FOX's bias. At least Stewart's show is only on a comedy channel that isn't supposed to be full of integrity and news.

And that has been my point all along. Thank you!!!

Has The 1/2 Hour News Hour made fun of conservatives yet?

Have they made fun of anyone? Week lame jokes that require a laugh track? So far they've only made fun of themselves.

Make fun of? They seem to be having a problem reporting the fact that a conservative has been convicted on 4 of 5 counts for perjury and lying to federal authorities. From that we can gather it will be a cold day in hell before they make fun of one of their own.

The show isn't that funny it is actually kinda dumb. I have watched it a few time in the hopes that it would get better but it never got more then an occasional chuckle out of me. I don't think it will last very long and I think Fox made a mistake by even putting in on. Fox is my first and really only choice for news I do believe that they are leaning right but do it fairly. This show I think it lowers their creditably as a news channel. All of the shows they had on were related to serious issues but this one is just a waste of time.

It's good to hear this from the mouth of a conservative.

Looks like some people are enjoying it actually.

Rating for week 1: 1,478,000 total, 499,000 demo (premire)
Rating for week 2: 971,000 total, 364,000 demo (repeat of week 1)
Rating for week 3: 1,384.000 total, 450,000 demo (new episode)

The most watched show on all the news networks for the night, even in reruns. I hate to say it, but the show may be sticking around for awhile. I personally think most of it is not funny, but obviously some people are watching it.

Well...at least this is good for liberals. FOX NEWS has finally lost whatever credibility it had left.

Those new episode viewer numbers seem to be going down fast.
Seriously though, the entire fox new's network is a joke.

I finally watched one of these episodes myself after hearing all you guys talk about it...

...I laughed my *** off. I certainly can't say I agree with everything FOX puts on the air, but it seems to me that if you didn't think ANY of it was funny, you probably just didn't want to because you disagree with it. I laugh my *** off at Jon Stewart's show just the same even though I disagree with much of his childish lefty attempts at political jokes. Maybe I'm the only one who can completely but my opinion aside to laugh at a good joke.

But humor is subjective so telling some one that "republicans can't do humor" because they're just "not funny" is like saying "you're opinion is wrong!" One thing is obviously true, though (which a lot of people are stupidly forgetting): this show is a conservative comedy and CONSERVATIVES like (gasp!) CONSERVATIVE comedy -- regardless of whether liberals do or not and regardless of what channel it's on. So since there are tons of conservatives in this country, it stands to reason that this show will be successful, just like Fox News itself.

Fox being the only station where you can get multiple sides of a story, and consequently, being the only one that will air conservative comedy, doesn't prove that it's biased.

Besides, by that logic, you have to admit MSNBC has a left-wing bias for allowing Keith Olbermann to regurgitate DNC talking points and egregiously misrepresent the news regularly. And there are many other sources that have to be biased to the left as well, by your logic.

....Yup. FOX gives us both sides of the story. LOL Just like that whole..Obama-Madrassa thing they never again reported on

I see nothing wrong in Fox's attempt to compete with the Comedy Channel on this. I don't find the show really very funny but in all fairness the Daily Show has also lost some of its bite. The main difference is that the Daily Show has been around longer and they have found their "groove" so to speak. This FOX program has not done that yet and it will take time. They have no established people on the show at this point so it's still hard to find a comedic standard. I don't think their writers are as good but that will depend on how the show does in order to attract more professional writers. it is just as easy to joke about liberals as it is conservatives, The FOX show just hasn't done that yet.

FOX may be changing cable news forever here. Like it or not it's an innovation that can make the network more appealing. There isn't really 24 hours worth of news out there so Murdoch is looking around. like him or not he has proved to be an innovator and only time will tell if this is an innovation that sticks.

My biggest gripe is not with FOX but with, for example, our local morning news program on Chicago's WGN (Channel 9). At that hour I do not need comedy by amateurs, singing by newscaster who can't carry a tune in a bucket, or "dancing news-casters" who look epileptic. I WANT THE NEWS AND THE WEATHER AT THAT HOUR. If these people want to change their careers I wish they wouldn't use the news to do it. I am trying to drink my coffee, find my keys and know what I am going to face in the street when I go out. Not the "Ziegfeld Follies" at 7 AM. But again this just proves that not only isn't there enough news for a 24 hour station there isn't even enough to fill 4 hours. So now I just watch the headlines local, national and international (15 minutes all told) and the complete weather report at the bottom of the hour.

Fox being the only station where you can get multiple sides of a story, and consequently, being the only one that will air conservative comedy, doesn't prove that it's biased.

After seeing how FOX handled the aftermath of the Libby trial it is evident that the above statement is not true. The news was Libby was found guilty by a jury of his peers of 4 out of 5 counts. But FOX had to say that ONCE then make a half a dozen unimportant speculative comments from his lawyers. It was evident to a child that they were embedding the important part of the story within several innocuous and speculative statements by his lawyers that had no real bearing on the story itself in an attempt to diminish the strength of the original headline. If that is not bias then the word "bias" should be stricken from the language.

PS What's wrong woth "bias" in the media as along as the publicantion states their position honestly? But they won't for the most part because they want your money. I like the idea in some countries where a newspaper or a TV channel comes right out and says who they are instead of ***** footing around.

All stations have political pundits, aqua. If you're going to pick on Keith Olbermann, go ahead and toss in Glenn Beck, O'reilly, Hannity, Colmes, and the other hundreds that appear on every news station across the spectrum.

So you then take a channel from all of these (which all have biases, and we all know, even those that don't like to admit it, which way Fox leans) and add a "comedic" "fake news" show that only makes fun of liberals and democrats, and your slip is showing.

Yeah, I watched that, and I didn't think it was very well written. The jokes were rather mediocre, I thought they could do better with the subjects they had. Definitely not a match for the Daily Show, the Daily show is funnier even/especially when it goes after the Democrats.
