Daily Show Meets its Match

Whatever you've got to tell yourself.

Reasons this argument is invalid:

You obviously believe it was made to compete with the Daily Show. Case and point the name of this thread.

1) Nobody signed on for that show specifically to compete with tha Daily Show. That is your baseless assertion.

Let's forget for a minute the name of this thread is "Daily Show meets it's match" and ignore the obvious reference to competition.

2) Even if they had decided to try and capitalize on this untapped market (conservative comedy) specifically to take ratings from Comedy Central that wouldn't say anything about them other than that they have good business sense.

Actually it proves how biased FOX news actually is. Their promotions are a direct contradiction to their slogan : "Fair and Balanced". Name one respectable news network that would air such a show and still called itself "unbiased".

This "scared" motive you are randomly assigning to them is mindless and meaningless.

LOL in denial are we? You know this is the case when people are trying to defend a news network airing obviously biased comedy shows. Aquapub seriously either learn to debate or just find some common sense.

I don't thinlk it compares to anything on "Comedy Central". That's whiz bang comedy. I don't always watch TDS or "The Kolbear Repore" but i never miss "Chappell's Show"

The few cracks they take at Democrats are aimed at personal things like their hair or public speaking ability, while they mocking and misrepresent the logic of conservatives.

THE FEW CRACKS THEY TAKE AT THE LEFT? Did you watch the same promotion I watched?

"This show may offend the left, the far left, anybody standing to the left, gay penguins, lawyer, the ACLU, anybody with ACLU in their name, democrats, people who know gay democrats, illegal aliens, space alliens and Tom Cruise".

My objection to the Daily Show isn't it's slanted political satyre, it's the lack of a counterpart. It's hard to laugh when you're being smeared and misrepresented.

So were you supportive of Air America? Being as it provided the alternative to commercial conservative talk radio?

Most conservatives have no problem with the concept behind Air America, we just thought it kind of funny that it failed so miserably, especially in liberal markets such as Mass., N.Y., etc. If liberals want a venue for their views, more power to them.

We were talking about the Daily Show. Try to keep up.

There was already NPR. Besides, it isn't about me being pro-balance, I was just talking about being able to enjoy humor without it being at the expense of my own views all the time.

1) Wrong again. Me calling this show the answer to the Daily Show doesn't mean Fox aired it for that reason. Not rocket science.

2) see point #1.

3) I'm sure you would deny that NPR is biased, but they do promotions for far left Socialist groups. Why? Because they know their constituency. That doesn't prove bias.

A couple of people brought something up that I can shed some light on. THIS is why a thread about the Daily Show belongs in the media bias forum and is relevant:

1) "I find politics boring," said Melissa Campbell, 20, a student at Canisius College. "I get most of my political news from Stewart because he picks the politicians apart and makes it funny."

Buffalo News (New York). February 2, 2004 Monday. Pg.D1 "A HUMOROUS SPIN/ COMEDIANS WEAVE A LIGHTER WEB OF POLITICAL NEWS FROM THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL, AN APPROACH EMBRACED BY YOUNG VOTERS"

2) "Young voters get their political news from late-night comedy shows."

St. Petersburg Times (Florida). September 5, 2004. Pg. 1P. "The politics of late-night laughs."

3) "Young TV viewers get political news from Comedy Central's 'The Daily Show.'"

The San Diego Union-Tribune. September 20, 2004. Pg. A-1. "Pop music leads charge in urging youths to vote."

4) "...the first major ad to target young voters, a key bloc for John Kerry. The commercial ran this weekend during NBC's Saturday Night Live in 13 close states, New York City and Washington, D.C. Today, it starts a one-week run during Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and on VH1."

USA TODAY. October 11, 2004. Pg. 7A. "Election ad."

i really dont see this show having the effect that the daily show, this show seems like it is specificly targeted at conservatives who already have their minds made up, while the daily show picks at the ubsudety of it all and colbert repeadly proves he is smarter than every politician he has interviewed by repeadly making them look like asses

NPR isn't commercial. And you did say it was a lack of a counterpart. There is really nothing out there that is a counterpart to conservative talk radio. For humor on the right side, there is always Michael Savage. ;)

It's funny watching people trying to prove the Daily Show is biased like it's on some News Network. It's on the ****ing comedy channel. Please understand the difference between "The Comedy Network" and "FOX NEWS Network" the keywords here being those before "network". If you get your news from The Daily Show you have no right to even speak in any kind of the debate. That the Fox news has sunk to this level proves that they're nothing more then a cloaking device and the furthest thing from "Fair and Balanced" on T.V.

He's also smarter than any of the pundits he interviews. Many of his guest should opt out because they don't do anything except sit there like bumps on a log.

Actually the above thanks is a DOUBLE thanks but they don't allow it.

Meaningless, incoherent taunting, how impressive.

BTW, FOX didn't create or even seek out this show, this show came to everyone and FOX was the only one who would reluctantly take it...hence its late night time slot.

Thanks for all the misrepresentations about why this show is on the air though. :liar

That's what I said on the first page...:2wave:

Nobody listens to me...:(

(kidding btw :))

Ive just seen this new show. The sense I get is not comedy, its desperation. Did you hear the audience trying so hard to force out the laughter?
It reeks.

What did you expect from a comedy show on a "respectable news" network? Surely you weren't expecting it to be Richard Prior at the Apollo or anything even remotely close to that did you? :rofl

The laughter is obviously electronically generated. This is a case of where a live audience is not a liability..provided you screen them like talk show hasts do their guests and callers.

There are conservatives who love the Daily Show humor, but long for humor without the anti-conservative slant. I'm one of them. Now I have it, and now any conservative who watches the Daily Show has something more pallatable.

Well I just wanted to give this show the benefit of the doubt, rather than immediately judge it a disaster.

Let me make a prediction right now. The Daily has absolutely nothing to worry about.

That's good but in a way I think the odds are against it. The left is good at that sort of thing while the right lags behind. On the other hand no one on the left can do talk radio like those on the right. Look what happened to AA. God evens things out in the end.

I prefer a satirist or a comedian who can go after everyone equally. The closest to that is Mark Russell IMO.

It's funny watching people trying to prove the Daily Show is biased like it's on some News Network.

This is why we call liberals illiterate.

Posting evidence that a significant portion of the population bases their vote on the Daily Show is not trying to prove it is biased.

:ws

Do you think Comedy Central didnt take this show on because theyre all biased liberals themselves or because its not funny?
