I've always thought there was an untapped audience out there of people who like the John Stewart-style comedy but are annoyed by all the frivolous material and liberal spin of the Daily Show.

Apparently I wasn't alone. The Fox News Channel has debuted its "1/2 Hour News Hour," the conservative answer to the Daily Show, and it is a riot!

Here's some video on the show (airing Sunday nights at 10 p.m.):

I'm impressed. Contrary to what I was expecting, those were actually pretty funny. I was worried that this idea was going to end up like Air America, but if they can keep that level up for an entire show, it might actually be successful.

I thought faux was a serious news channel?:lamo guess not

If history is any indication, this show will blow the Daily Show out of thewater once it catches on and gets moved to a comparable time slot.

That's always the way. Conservatives beat the crap out of liberals in every area where public choice is allowed (books, TV, radio), even elections-except the ones where liberals pretend to be conservatives enough to get elected, like this latest one. This is also why liberals cling to public broadcasting and to the unaccountable judiciary that doesn't have to answer to the people...it's the only way for them to stay in business.

I saw this show and it was very funny! :) I'm glad Fox News took it, I heard no one else would take it because it wasn't PC, but if people are so worried about PC that they can't laugh, there's something wrong. :)

No you didn't jfuh....

Rush Limbaugh to bring the country back together. That's funny!

Love the fake laugh track.... it drowns out the crickets.

I wont lie, the promo made me laugh out loud. If its good then I wish them the best, however I don't have high expectations. It really depends on the personalities.

Big, big difference between the Daily Show and this new petulant upstart.

The Daily Show mocks anyone in the news, regardless of political affiliation or leaning. The absurdity on Fox pokes fun at leftish targets. Therefore this new show doesn't really "answer" as aqua-p says.

The Daily Show provides humor for anyone disgusted by absurdity in our world. For those that don't mind the absurdity in our world, there already has been an "answer" for this. Therefore, this new show accomplishes nothing new. It's just more scripted Fox Opinion Channel Liberal bashing, which has been there all along.

Why would anyone eagerly eat one kind of spin and despise another? Ah, how we so wish that one lie were better than another, so long as it supports our tribe.

It's ok, but it's no Daily Show.

This is quite simply false.

They leapt to defend John Kerry when he implied only dummies go to Iraq.

During the last presidential election year the show was pretty much an undeclared democratic 527.

It actually bums me out, as I loved the old "Jon Stewart Show" on MTV, and I thought his show was hilarious until it went completely lefty / pro democrat.

If the Daily Show didn't routinely irritate Republicans by taking slanted shots at them, this point might actually be valid, but there is nothing politically neutral about John Stewart or his antics.

The MRC and other watch dog groups have running logs of the leftward slant on that show. It's egregious. They take 10 shots at Republican policies for every 1 shot at a liberal's hair.

My objection to the Daily Show isn't it's slanted political satyre, it's the lack of a counterpart. It's hard to laugh when you're being smeared and misrepresented. Now, BOTH sides can laugh.

Keep trying though...eventually one of these incessant, frivolous attempts to turn harmless comments of mine into a smear might actually do something OTHER than make you look intimidated.

"The thing about John Kerry that I think is important for everybody to remember is that, you know, people have said that this election is over, but if he focuses, if he really buckles down, he can defeat Nixon and hopefully have our troops out of Vietnam by '74. (Imitating Kerry) Bring it on!" - Jon Stewart

"Kerry is what Kennedy has wrought, John Kennedy, not Ted Kennedy. Ted Kennedy has wrought a whole other thing that has to do with not wearing pants and running around Palm Beach. He is Kennedy if you squint. You know, if you're not really paying that close attention. Sort of profiles in courage, profiles in might have been courage, profiles - you know what I'm saying?" - Jon Stewart

"And the big convention kickoff. Monday's theme: 'The Kerry-Edwards plan for America's future.' It was a powerful message lacking only Kerry, Edwards, and a plan for America's future. In its stead: dance party!" -Jon Stewart

"The prisoner scandal is yet another election year problem for President Bush. And, with the economy still struggling, combat operations in Iraq dragging on, and the 9-11 hearings revealing damning information, even an opponent of limited political skill should be able to capitalize on those problems. The Democrats, however, chose to nominate John Kerry." -Jon Stewart

"Insiders have begun voicing serious concerns about how he's conducting his campaign. One aide told the New York Times that while Bush's message of 'steady leadership' has remained consistent, Kerry has gone through six different messages in the 18 months he's been running, including, at one particularly desperate juncture, 'Kerry: Health care jobs for the troops' environment.'" -Jon Stewart

"I think they believe President Bush would do a better job. And I believe the Kerry guys believe President Kerry would do a better job. But what I believe is, they're not making honest arguments." - Jon Stewart

"So I think [Kerry's] problem is that he has decided to turn against what is clearly--I mean, that is if anyone has ever been raised in a laboratory to become president, it's Kerry. I mean, he's--from day one, I'm sure, you know, at three years old, he got his My First White House kit. You know, he is a guy that is clearly--and now that he is finally in the race to be president, he has decided that what it really is is a likable average Joe. And it so clearly goes against his constitution." - Jon Stewart

"The truth is the postscripts have already been written unless something dramatic happens. It's already been written that `Kerry seemed to have a grasp of the, you know, issues, but he did have trouble defending his flip-floppery. But Bush, you know, he's just so eloquent and he's simple. He's just the kind of guy you want to have a beer with, and he's just one of those guys. It's just great. It's just great. And Kerry, for all his knowledge and expertise, is too Hessian; he's too European.' You know, so all the--but get them off their stupid talking points and their just absolutely manicured, manufactured put-on personas." - Jon Stewart

:applaud

Congratulations. You have just posted examples of John Stewart making cracks about Kerry not doing well in the elections, which has nothing to do with my claim that Stewart misrepresents and ridicules the logic behind Republican policies while making far less cracks about Democrats, and always about their hair or their public speaking ability.

This post of yours actually reinforces my point about the few jabs he takes at liberals. "Kerry, for all his knowledge and expertise, is too...European" What a slam.

LOL, aquapub. it has nothing to do with what you think, but it has everything to do with your words -- the ones that were actually quoted.

Did anyone stop to consider the fact that The Daily Show is not news, it does not air on a professed news channel, and it has absolutely no responsibility to maintain any kind of nuetrality?

Whereas FNC is a self declared news channel who's slogan is "Fair and Balanced". Though it is very funny, this 1/2 Hour news Hour show is inaproppriate for a news station that already has a tough time maintaining it's neutrality as it is. Great show, wrong venue.

Yep, I did, post #3.:2wave:

Jesus aqua chill, have a sense of humour. The Daily Show is just a comedy program, not to be taken seriously, hence it is on the COMEDY CHANNEL. So Fox News Network is releasing a counterpart to the Daily Show?? Is Fox News a news network, or a comedy channel??

I've gotta disagree, that shits not all that funny. There are a few moments when you laugh, but by and large that **** wasn't funny at all.

I love the idea. I enjoyed the Daily Show, but I can't watch it anymore because it just makes me angry at the smug liberal self satisfaction that now fills the entire damn show. I still watch the Colbert Report though.

I like the idea of making fun of politics, and I'd love it if the market for this type of comedy wasn't cornered solely by liberals, but these mother****ers are about as funny as Keith Olberman.

The gay penguins bit cracked me up. The thing with rush and coulter was too scripted, it felt like a slightly awkward SNL, but thats to be expected with a new show I guess. Judging by those bits alone, i thought it was funnier than most comedy pilots that go on the cable networks before getting canceled

I think they might have some success if they come out with a character that's a mirror of Colbert...a really ridiculous liberal who makes no sense.

Thank gawd I'm not the only one. I would make some sort of crack about how that's the kind of humor we should expect out of conservatives...but...well I just did. :2razz:

I thought some of it was pretty funny. I imagine I'lll watch. I don't know if it's fair to compare this to the daily show as it appears to be way more over the top. It's nice to have shows like this and the Daily Show since SNL stopped doing the job years and years ago.

The thing that's funny about Stewart and Colbert is they legitimately make asses of people.

Here's the metaphor. This show is drawing horns, blacking out a tooth, and drawing an eye patch on a picture of someone you don't like and posting it all over town, while Stewart and Colbert is getting ahold of a picture of you passed out with a dick in your mouth and posting that all over town.

It's just complete different levels of humor. And can it really be that hard to get **** to publicly humiliate liberals?

I agree to a certain point. There is a difference in intelligent humor vs. slapstick and this new show does look to lean more towards slapstick but Colbert & Stewart both have slapstick in their shows too. Occasionally they are very smart, dead on, intelligent humor. But much of what they do is just yanking chains as well. To say they don't partake in blacking out people's teeth & drawing horns is bull$hit.
