Dad Accused of Using Stun Gun on Daughter's Friend Over Naked Photo

There seems to be a trend of kids sending naked pictures of themselves and getting arrested. Just because he's a couple years older doesn't make him more "sick" than others. "Sexting" Leads to Child Porn Charges for Teens - CBS Evening News - CBS News

Were she 14, I'd feel your rage a little bit more. Since she's mere months from being legal in Cali and would be legal in many states, I'm not that concerned about it.

I assume you were outraged at Bob Dole doing the Pepsi commercial with Britney Spears then?

Oh yes a commercial is the exact same thing as sending pics of your junk to an underage chick.

And this isn't 25 and 31 or 21 and 28. 17 is not only underage for anyone to pretend highschool age and beyond college isn't a big difference is only fooling themselves.

Um, why exactly? Who is being harmed by the practice? And how is it worse than just appearing naked in person, or using actual photos, both of which people of that age have been doing for quite a while?

Are we as a society going to stop creating moral panics where none exist or not?

Wow. You don't see an issue with teenagers sending a receiving naked picutures of themselves?

What is the "issue" that we should see with it?
Perhaps you'd care to expand.

Um, why? How does going to college magically make it acceptable, rather than a year before college?

And you realize that 17 is not underage in many places, right?

Oh, one more thing. When my parents started dating, my mother was 16, and my father was 22. Yet somehow the police weren't after them, nor were crazy fathers. Good thing cell phones didn't exist back then, huh.

Sure. We're going to "crack down" on it just as effectively as we cracked down on mooning and streaking in the 50s, and skinny-dipping in the 60s.

Teenagers who want to will find a way to show off their naked bodies.
Sexting seems more innocuous than some previous ways, in that they're not even doing it in person, but sitting at home alone in the privacy of their own bathrooms/ bedrooms.

The problem with sexting is that it getting distributed pretty quickly to everyone in town

A buddy of mine downloaded an iPhone app called Loopt Mix. It's basically a hook-up app. Within minutes he had ladies emailing pictures of their junk to him. Ah to be young again lol.

So, if a sophomore is dating a senior and he goes away to college the next year, they should break up right away and the guy suddenly becomes a "sicko"?

And his dumb actions aside, you seem to be implying that a 23 year old finding a 17 year old attractive is "sick".

So when Bob Dole implied that his Viagra was working for a then 17 year old Britney Spears how was that not sick?

To paraphrase Chris Rock:
"I'm not saying he should have tazed the guy... but I understand."

Is a 30 y/o male and a 16 y/o female fair game? What's the limit?

LOL, Dr Laura did

I learned from her mistake, too: never get caught with your pants down, and a bush the size of a small South American country.

I'll confess right here that there is a video out there, made in a passionate and intemperate moment, that I hope stays deep in a dark closet never to be viewed again.

There's pics of me all over the internet that I'd prefer not to be associated with.
That's the good thing about getting older: you don't look the same as you did when you were young, and chances are nobody will ever recognize you.

TEMECULA, Calif. -- An angry father is accused of using a stun gun on a 23 year old man who sent his 17 year old daughter an explicit cell phone picture.

William Atwood Sr., 45, was charged Wednesday with multiple felonies in connection with the case.

Authorities say Atwood lured Justin Moore to his home, ordered him to strip down to his boxer shorts, and tied him up and tased him with a stun gun before turning him over to a sheriff's deputy.

You wouldn't want me on that jury if you are the prosecution. I'd let him go free and clear. (the father)

Sick bastard. And what is a 23 year old doing with an underage 17 year old?

Are we as a society going to crack down on "sexting" with our children or not?

My favorite part:

Atwood told Moore he had connections with the Pechanga tribe and was going to have him buried on the reservation, court records say.

Prosecutors declined to charge Moore in connection with the photo for lack of evidence, said district attorney's spokesman John Hall.

What kind of crap is that? The phone company will have the evidence even if the phones are wiped.

Stun Gun Assault: Angry Father Uses Stun Gun on Daughter's friend over Naked Photo - KDVR

It sounds like the Dad got a tad overzealous and may be unstable himself. The age of consent in CA is still 18, so the Dad can make a complaint if the daughter was having sex with the man.

And if there is no evidence of the original crime -- then maybe there was no crime. The phone company might archive pix messages, but for how long?

As a father of two daughters, I understand where the Dad was coming from, but it seems like overkill.

Unstable sounds like an understatement; frankly the whole incident makes me a tad suspicious about the dad's motivations.
Were it up to me, the family would be investigated.

Oh, there are obviously limits. And technically what this guy did would be against Cali law because she was under 18. But six years with the younger person being 17 hardly qualifies as "sick" to me. Again, were she 13 or 14 I'd be a lot more furious. Or if he were 18 or 19, I'd be a lot less bothered.

Age of consent laws are tough - because technically any 17 year old boy sleeping with a 16 year old girl is committing a crime in California. But I don't think they deserve to be on the registry for life as a sex offender.

All the father needed to do was turn the guy over to authorities. Since his daughter is a minor, I believe that there would have been multiple violations. I understand his anger at the guy, but what he did was against the law, and he should be changed and sentenced in accordance with that. Sorry, he has no right to violate another's rights because he's mad.

What would YOUR reaction have been had this been YOUR daughter?

In asking this question of you or indeed any father who loves his children, i am hopeful that an honest reply will be given.

How, exactly, is a man sexually interested in a 17 year old a "sick bastard"?

Presumably because 17 is below the legal age of consent.
In certain countries this can be as low as 9 years of age. Not saying it is right, just pointing out a fact.

I know I wouldn't have tazed the guy.

I also would have hoped that I would have had a good enough relationship with my daughter that she wouldn't be dating someone without my knowledge or giving her number out to 23-year-olds.

I can understand the father's anger, but he shouldn't have acted upon it. He didn't have the right to taser the 23 year old. He should have just told the police and filed any charges that he could. Vigilante justice is disgusting. The father deserves jail time. Who knows? Maybe the father and the 23 year old could be cell mates.

The police are not filing charges against the 23-year-old, due to lack of physical evidence (despite the fact that he's confessed).
Apparently, they feel he's been through enough.

if I were him I'd move away and change my name before that psychopath gets out of the pokey.
