Customs agents make largest meth bust in U.S. history

Feb. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. and Australian authorities have nabbed a record meth bust at a Los Angeles port -- nearly 2 tons of methamphetamine ready to be shipped overseas.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the seizure Thursday, saying a Jan. 11 search turned up more than 3,800 pounds of meth, 56 pounds of cocaine and 11 pounds of heroin. Officials said the drugs weighed 1.7 tons.

The shipment, marked as "loudspeakers," was bound for Australia, the CBP statement said.

"Along with our law enforcement partners here and around the world, we continue in a day-to-day battle against the blight of methamphetamine that continues to devastate our communities," said Joseph Macias, special agent-in-charge for Homeland Security Investigations in Los Angeles.

COMMENT:-

Just one more piece of evidence about why America needs "The Wall" in order to stop the Mexi ...

Oops, the drugs were American manufactured drugs made in American production facilities using American workers and being exported in order to decrease the American balance of trade loss.

Uhhh - nothing to see here folks, move along, move along.

So we are growing coca and opium poppies in America? Where?

I'm glad to see that you caught the essential fact that approximately 1.73% of the shipment DID NOT originate in the United States of America.

Would you like to comment on the other 98.27% (even though that makes up a completely insignificant portion of the drugs seized)?

Manufacturing is coming back...

Building "The Wall" will prevent "those people" from unfairly competing with American grown/made products in the American marketplace.

Of course, if "those people" impose restrictions on the import of American grown/made products into other marketplaces that would be an unfair trade practice and call for sanctions and/or liberation in order to promote freedom and democracy right?

The entire premise of your thread is flawed. Needing or not needing a wall is completely independent and irrelevant to any drugs issues we have within the U.S. You're needlessly conflating two different things, probably in an attempt to prop up a weak argument.

It isn't MY proposition that "The Wall" will stop the drug traffic - it's Mr. Trump's (and his supporters) proposition.

A 10 to 15 year "emergency program" to stop a current "crisis" is - once you think about it - rather silly.

The current crisis can be stopped almost over night by actually enforcing the existing laws. Unfortunately NEITHER the Republicans nor the Democrats seem to want to do that (albeit, apparently, for different reasons).

IF the existing laws regarding employing ONLY those people who have a demonstrated "right to work" in the United States of America were enforced RIGOROUSLY, employers would soon figure out that they simply couldn't stay in business if they hired "illegals".

If the "illegals" learned that they couldn't find employment in the US, then they would soon stop coming to the US.

Unfortunately, if the laws were enforced with vigour, that would mean two things:

  1. there would be less money available for "campaign contributions"; and
  2. prices would rise due to the increased cost of labour.

Now, if "The Wall" were to be magically erected overnight, and were to be as successful as Mr. Trump says it will be then two things would happen:

  1. prices would rise due to the increased cost of labour; and
  2. there would be less money available for "campaign contributions".

as you can see, the two situations are the complete opposite of each other.

The California Syndicate is the alliance between the Mexican cartels and mostly American biker gangs. The meth was probably made in Mexico, certainly not in the USA. Its way too big.

I will be interesting to see who else gets busted in follow up’s.

BTW, you left out the Made in USA proof. Gee, DP’s very own fake newser! Do better.

Possible, but since it is easier to smuggle stuff from Mexico to Australia directly than it is to transship it through the US, well ...

I will be interesting to see who else gets busted in follow up’s.

Unless those who were arrested have already made arrangements for their families to disappear (along with a whole pile of money), I wouldn't want to bet the rent that anyone of actual consequence UP the ladder will get nabbed.

A comment is just that, a comment. The fact is that the drugs were being smuggled OUT of the US - and through a place where no "wall" was being contemplated. If you can smuggle stuff out, you can smuggle stuff in. (It's an old family tradition in my family's country of origin.)

I think that the law enforcement industry has realized that it's easier to get more money targeting the brown people instead of the white people.

But you are 100% correct. If the laws were focused at the people hiring illegal's, cutting the head off the snake, that would mean prosecuting white people, for the most part.

There's not as much money to be had doing that. It's all about the $$$.

Yes! We caught it.

What make you think it was manufactured in the Unites States? Clearly the Cocaine and Heroin didn't originate in the United States its not unreasonable to believe nether did the meth. Meth is easier to produce in Mexico where the needed chemicals aren't as tightly control by the government. Thank is why increasingly meth is being produced in Mexico.

So you admit you just assumed it was made in the United States. I guess you know the intricacies of drug trafficking too.

So perhaps someone in the US is buying meth from a Mexican cartels marking the price up and reselling it in Australia.

Based on knowledge and experience, I "concluded" that that was highly likely.

I guess you know the intricacies of drug trafficking too.

Actually I rather suspect that I know one hell of a lot more about it than you do.

Why I know more is something that you will simply have to speculate about.

Yep, and they are so stupid that they ship it across the US/Mexico border in order to increase their chances of getting caught.

No you ASSUMED without having enough data to make those assumptions. The article you linked to made no mention as to the origin of any of the drugs seized.

Actually i rather suspect that i know one hell of a lot more about it than you do.
:lamo I'm not surprised you THINK you do you THINK you know more about every subject. I'll remind you that my wife was a Federal Court reporter for over 35 years. They had a very extensive criminal docket. Most of those cases were drug cases. I have heard the specifics of most of the cases. So I'm not uneducated about drugs and drug dealers and the DEA and other federal agencies.

Why i know more is something that you will simply have to speculate about.

I guessing a former drug dealer or a person with too much time on his hands and mad Goggle skills. :lamo But you DID say the drugs were manufactured in the US and of course you were talking out of your arse again.

To be continued

If its easier to manufacture in Mexico {it is} and the customer that is buying the meth in America for resale in Australia is more comfortable smuggling things from the US than they are smuggling from Mexico it makes sense. The Cartel takes the risk of manufacturing and smuggling to the US and the American buyer buys the meth marks it up and ships it to Australia. It makes sense to buy the drugs from a cartel in Mexico and taking delivery in the US marking the price up and smuggling them to Australia . The American buyer avoids the risk of manufacturing and the risk of smuggling to the United States those two risk are on the Cartel in Mexico.

We have get China to stop the companies making the precursors necessary to make top shelf meth. They are not interested in helping the USA, addiction is only one more front in tne war to bifurcate the world’s trading markets.

Did you realize that your argument has a good parallel is one that advocates stopping car manufacturers from building cars because people drive while drunk?

If the __[fill in the blank]__ producers didn't have any American customers, would they still be manufacturing for the American market?

Isn't there ANY "responsibility" that accrues to the consumers of illegal substances?
