Ted Cruz campaign: We could have stopped Donald Trump if Marco Rubio became running mate - CNNPolitics.com

Republican officials who oppose Donald Trump as their party nominee have spent the last few days -- ever since the withdrawal from the race of Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich -- wondering if there is anything they could have done to prevent this outcome.

Top officials of the Cruz campaign are convinced there is one specific step that could have stopped Trump -- and they blame Sen. Marco Rubio for not taking that step.

Desperate Lying Ted and his sour grapes. This was actually a smart move by Rubio. Accepting Cruz' proposition would have hurt Rubio's chances at running in 2020 by accepting a position that would have placed him below Ted Cruz.

If, if, if... if a frog had wings it wouldn't bust its ass every time it jumped.

Cruz lost and there's no evidence that the good will that Rubio has would have been transferred to Cruz if they would have teamed up. Most Rubio supporters think Cruz is awful, and I seriously doubt that would have changed - in fact, if anything, the opposite of what Cruz retroactively predicts would have probably occurred - Rubio would have lost his supporters for teaming up with the guy they hate, Cruz.

Of course, there was no proposition according to Rubio. The idea was being floated by donors, but Cruz didn't make an offer. Anyway, it speaks volumes that Cruz's staff tacitly admits that he was such a crappy candidate he couldn't have won the nomination on his own merits.

teaming with ted is the ONLY thing that rubio could have done to have inflicted MORE damage upon his political reputation

At least that is the "official" word. I suspect that Cruz did ask...and Rubio turned him down.
