Is anyone else running into businesses charging an ‘add on’ percent to cover the business merchant fees per CC transaction. I was in business a few times and=t the rate I remember was from 1.6-ish to 2.7-ish. AMEX was always higher. I thought I remember in our contract with. The banks that we were not allowed to pass on the fees. Anyone in a retail us iness have any insight as to what has changed?

Tangent, the last business was a full service garage with body and mechanical services offered. When an insurance company was paying the customer by check, they often tried to use a CC to get the miles or points. These were usually large ticket items and we refused to let them get their rewards at our expense.

When I had my heat pump replaced and was getting bids the rep stated the price would be 2% lower if paid by cash or check. The 2% was to cover the credit card fee they are charged.

I also found that to be true with some of small business trades (plumbing/electrical). They give a 1-2% discount for cash/check.

My local pizza place has a sign that says "3% extra charge for credit cards".

It's seems to be common place these days.

cash, checks, and debits cards are no add ons

you use amex or mileage cards, and i add on a 2% fee to cover the charges i pay

those are listed on my website, in the paperwork you sign coming in as a customer, and right at the front desk in big bold letters

never had an issue with the customers balking.....
