The United States set a daily record for coronavirus cases on Thursday as the number soared past 77,000, topping the previous high set in July, NBC News confirmed on Friday. The benchmark was hit as the pandemic has accelerated at a pace not seen since the summer and as many local governments have reimposed restrictions to stop the spread of a virus that has killed more than 224,000 people in the U.S., according to the latest tally. President Donald Trump, during his final debate with Joe Biden on Thursday, declared yet again that the pandemic "will soon be gone." But by midnight, 77,640 new coronavirus cases were on the books, up from the previous record of 75,723 set on July 29, the newest figures showed. And the death toll had risen by 921.

"We’ve been hearing essentially the same words from the president since February, that it was going to go away, that it’s going to disappear, whether that’s in February, March, April, May, and that’s what he’s saying now," Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health, told MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle on Friday. "That’s not what the data says, unfortunately. The situation in Idaho is so dire that local health officials are considering sending new coronavirus patients to neighboring Washington state and Oregon because they are running out of hospital beds.

What is it that Trump keeps telling the sheeple at his political rally's?

Ah yes. "We've turned the corner. We've turned the corner."

Over 400k died under Biden's watch of Influenza. Why didn't he protect these people?

Not true, unless you're talking about all 8 years, then maybe.

There's a vaccine freely available for seasonal flu. Why didn't they avail themselves of it? There's no vaccine for Covid-19 and Trump is still lying that one will be available "in a few weeks". He did so again in last night's debate. The sooner that ridiculous and obese sack of shit is gone the better it will be for America and the world.

8 years, yes. If you are responsible does it matter how long? 50 million or so died (all causes) while Joe was VP. Why did he let those deaths happen? 300 or so million died since he took office in 1974........

Note the word 'Vice' President? Why would you hold him any more responsible than, for example, Pence?

Hi!

I've been tracking Covid-19 data since 3/18/2020 using Worldometer(r) data. High points for new cases include 77,995 on 7/16, 78,159 on 7/24, 81,195 on 7/31 and 78,617 on 10/22. AQ 7 day moving average, 9/14 to present, showed increases on 30 days and decreases on 9 days. There's little reason to doubt an increasing trend in reported cases. It can be argued, of course, that these numbers are distorted by increases and/or decreases in the rate of testing people. The same is not true for Covid-19 assigned deaths. Up until the past two days, there was a 28 day run of less than 1,000 cases/day. The reported numbers for the past two days were 1,215 and 1,004 respectively.

Regards, stay safe 'n well. Remember the Big 3: masks, hand washing and physical distancing.

He takes credit for anything good that came from his years as VP. With the good comes the bad, though Joe wasn't any more responsible for influenza deaths than Trump is now for Covid. You can hold Joe responsible for military deaths caused directly from inane rules of engagement and lack of a clear mission. To be credible, you should hold Joe accountable for his pandemic response with equal scrutiny. 8 x as many cases of H1N1. We lucked out that it wasn't as lethal as Covid, though many many more young people and children were taken.

Can't be right. Trump says it's going away.

After all, why would he lie to us? Oh, wait...

Loan payments loom as Trump fights for his political future – and the future of his business"

Hm... worldometer shows 1224 and 973 for me for he last 2 days.

Quite possibly the dumbest thing I've read all week, and I don't actually agree with those blaming Trump, not because I think Trump has done a good job, but because I don't really think it IS entirely his job.

Sometimes the best way to illustrate the absurd is to be absurd or " dumb".

As of a few minutes ago, 83, 010 new cases today.

In the past week in the U.S....
New daily reported cases rose 11.4%
New daily reported deaths rose 14.7%
Covid-related hospitalizations rose 10.3%

Rounding the corner!!!

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho. (AP) — Health officials say people with COVID-19 in Northern Idaho soon may have to be sent to Seattle or Portland, Oregon, because the region's hospitals are nearing capacity.
Kootenai Health hospital said in a statement Wednesday that their hospital is at 99% capacity for patients that need medical or surgical care. As of Wednesday morning, Kootenai Health had 31 COVID-19 inpatients and 11 required critical care.
Chief Physician Executive Karen Cabell told KREM the hospital nearing capacity at its current levels is "unprecedented."

Fortunately we here in antifa-held Seattle and Portland areas have the virus somewhat under control and can accept patients from "freedom"-loving red states like Idaho.

We still have a few hospitals that the radical left hasn't burned down.

America has the worst record for Covid19 infections and deaths. It is directly related to Trumps slow response and refusal to ramp up testing quick enough. I'm tired of the false comparisons to other diseases Covid is a new and different disease and requires different methods of control.

The US has the highest COVID-19-attributed infections and deaths, accounting for 21% of global deaths. Defenders of the US’s pandemic policy record assert that such figures are misleading since reported COVID-19 cases depend on the testing regime and many countries under-count COVID-19-related
Yet US policymakers had at least four advantages over their European counterparts in countries such as Italy and Spain that should have led to lower excess mortality rates than in Europe:

First, there was more time to prepare. Genomic evidence suggests that Europe was the source of most infections that became evident in New York in early March. The US administration had three weeks’ more warning given the lag between initial rises in excess mortality in Italy and Spain versus the US Northeast. For the South, West and Midwest (accounting for 83% of the US population), the delayed spread of the virus should have provided an even greater advantage.

  • Second, the US has a younger population4 and COVID-19 mortality is significantly correlated with age.
  • Third, the US has a lower population density than Europe as a whole and for large conurbations within, and viral spread is greater in more dense populations.5
  • Fourth, the later onset should have enabled US authorities to take advantage of rapidly improving medical knowledge and capacity (the nature of the disease, treatment regimes, testing capacity, and the effectiveness of policies such as social distancing and masks).
These multiple advantages should have reduced US excess mortality rates relative to Europe, but instead rates far exceed those of Europe and its countries (see Figure 1).

Biden didn't lie about a deadly virus, didn't downplay it's severity, didn't fail to lead by example, didn't lie about 'turning the corner', didn't abuse and insult experts advising him, didn't sit on his arse for two months, vacillating, while a pandemic raged, didn't tell people to slow down testing because it made his 'numbers' look bad for his election prospects. How can you even begin to defend such a worthless, self-obsessed sleaze like Trump?

How will his being gone alter the fact that your dopey country is setting records for infections too? So is all of Europe, in fact.
