Coronavirus update: New York’s infection rate has been below one percent for 30 days

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...um=email&utm_source=newsletter&wpisrc=nl_most

New York’s infection rate has been below one percent for 30 straight days, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) announced on Sunday, marking a turning point for the state that once was the epicenter of the novel coronavirus.

Cuomo encouraged New Yorkers to continue mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing.

“Our actions today determine the rate of infection tomorrow, so as the Labor Day weekend continues, I urge everyone to be smart so we don’t see a spike in the weeks ahead,” he said in a statement.

New York once reported startling numbers of new infections and deaths at the outset of the virus in which it reported more than 11,500 new cases in a single day in May and more than 1,200 deaths in a day in April, according to Washington Post data.

As of Sunday, New York reported 720 new infections, four deaths and 410 hospitalizations — another low since mid-March — related to the virus.
===================================================================
Cuomo should serve as a model for other states but the Repubs would never go along with that.

Yes and 7 out of 10 of new Covid cases are in States that Trump carried in 2016. Those Red State Governors are obviously incompetent.

the turnaround has been amazing

The entire country COULD be like this except for TRump and his politics.

Good news for New York .

Michigan’s positive test rate has been between 2.5 and 3.5 since June.

What exactly is the "infection rate?" I can think of a number of different things that could refer to.

It is so funny when it comes to Covid deaths Conservatives call Michigan a Blue state, but in 2016 President Trump Won the state of Michigan .

I think they are talking about positive test rate.

Currently New York’s current positive test rate is .9 percent.

Explained
From Covid act now

A low percentage (0.9%) of COVID tests were positive, which suggests enough widespread, aggressive testing in New York to detect most new cases. Identifying and isolating new cases can help contain COVID without resorting to lockdowns.

Compare to Michigan which is 2.6 percent.

A low percentage (2.6%) of COVID tests were positive, which suggests enough widespread, aggressive testing in Michigan to detect most new cases. Identifying and isolating new cases can help contain COVID without resorting to lockdowns.

Compare that to Iowa which is 16.4 percent.

A relatively high percentage (16.4%) of COVID tests were positive, which indicates that testing in Iowa is limited and that most cases may go undetected. At these levels, it is hard to know how fast COVID is actually spreading, and there is risk of being surprised by a second wave of disease. Caution is warranted.

How is this good news for New York????????

The have slowed the spread of virus and it is likely they will soon contain Covid 19.

Low positive rates mean they can identify and isolate new cases without resorting to lockdowns.

Michigan you said is at 3.5... how is taht good for NY as your wrote?

That is not a good number at all.

These people trial and do not quarantine as the law requires. All states with bad infection rates are bad for NY.

yes, you have gotten no smarter no matter how many facts are put in front of you

And yet, Mr genius IQ can't refute me nor out debate me. Go figure, eh?

Now if New York can avoid getting cocky they should be fine.

Yes just another Right winger that can't face the Fact that back in the beginning of March there was not only conflicting info coming out of DC ( remember Trumps, it is only one person, it is only 15 people and will be gone by Apr., or it is NO big deal, it will be gone in no time ) and the CDC saying other things
Fact is Trump stopped people coming in from China on the west coast in the end of Feb. and didn't stop people coming in from china through the EU on the east coast.
They have tracked most of this mess in the NE states ( NY ) to one woman coming in from Iran through the EU on March 1 and by March 5th there were 22 cases and by March 10th there were 173 cases and by the end of the month there were 75,795 cases
and people on the right keep trying to put all the blame on Como
well again with all the conflicting info coming out of DC and the CDC who knew what to do or what to believe
it was Como who took the lead in the NE states and the NY health dept. that figured out what worked and what didn't
YES!!!!! they did make mistakes ( who wouldn't have ?
seeing there were no examples of what to do and not to do at that point in time)
Como has had the balls to at lease admit he made mistake and has tried to correct them UNLIKE Trump
SO how about giving Como and the Governors of the NE states and the Health workers ( Doctors and nurses ) in those states the proper credit they deserve and not keep tearing them down
Have a nice night

The Cuomo Virus has now killed 33,002 New Yorkers. I wont take any lectures from that F'up, or any of his cheer leaders for that matter.

As I said the lower the positive test rate the better for the state.

The positive test rate means is the number of persons who out of 100,000 tests test postive.

When’s low number test postive it is easier to contact trace and isolate the positive cases to contain the spread of the virus.

Michigan tests about 40,000 a day , we have our own labs and usually gets the tests back In 48 hours.

We have good contact tracing and in June traced over 180 case to a Rast Lansing Restaurant/bar.

185 coronavirus (COVID-19) cases now linked to outbreak at East Lansing bar

No masks, No shutdowns, No distancing. NO more deaths.

People here like to run from FACTS.

You mean your version of 'facts' and predictions; like "it will be forgotten by August"? This is just one reason nobody takes anything you tout, seriously.

Social distancing and markedly reduced travel in Sweden

Published 18 June 2020

Swedes are largely following the government agencies’ advice and recommendations. This has been shown through surveys and data concerning movement patterns. Now travel within Sweden is permitted again – but if the guidelines are not followed, the Government is prepared to take measures.

More than eight in ten Swedes are keeping a greater distance from others than they normally would. Just as many are avoiding shaking hands and are washing their hands more often than usual. Over 60 per cent are taking part in social activities outside the home to a lesser extent and are avoiding public places where there are lots of people.

Is not doing as well as some claim.
Dude, when are you gonna wake up and smell the coffee? This is a deadly virus, do the adult thing and the sooner more of you deniers do, the sooner we get back to normal. Do you really think Anyone Really does not want to get back to Life as we once knew it, forget the political BS, No One Wants This.
Listen to experience, one day you will tone it down and start Thinking, there is a saying:
Young Men Think Old Men Are Fools, Old Men Know Young Men Are.
You claim to be a thinking person, but say it and doing it are different things, try looking at the world from the other side while ignoring your own opinion, think you might just start changing your POV, heck you might become and Independent.
Now, go grill something good to eat, it is Labor Day, enjoy it, get some fresh air.
Later...

Paradoxical, and people like him, are killing small businesses.

There's movement pattern data and economic data as well. Their economic downturn was impacted by the lack of foreign demand for their exports which would have occurred even if the rest of the world followed Sweden's lead.

Paradoxical, Mashmouth and Trump made the worst predictions. Totally wrong. All three.
