Coronavirus update: New York’s infection rate has been below one percent for 30 days

New York’s infection rate has been below one percent for 30 straight days, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) announced on Sunday, marking a turning point for the state that once was the epicenter of the novel coronavirus.

Cuomo encouraged New Yorkers to continue mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing.

“Our actions today determine the rate of infection tomorrow, so as the Labor Day weekend continues, I urge everyone to be smart so we don’t see a spike in the weeks ahead,” he said in a statement.

New York once reported startling numbers of new infections and deaths at the outset of the virus in which it reported more than 11,500 new cases in a single day in May and more than 1,200 deaths in a day in April, according to Washington Post data.

As of Sunday, New York reported 720 new infections, four deaths and 410 hospitalizations — another low since mid-March — related to the virus.

Yes and 7 out of 10 of new Covid cases are in States that Trump carried in 2016. Those Red State Governors are obviously incompetent. :lol:

Good news for New York .

Michigan’s positive test rate has been between 2.5 and 3.5 since June.
 
What exactly is the "infection rate?" I can think of a number of different things that could refer to.

It is so funny when it comes to Covid deaths Conservatives call Michigan a Blue state, but in 2016 President Trump Won the state of Michigan .

I think they are talking about positive test rate.

Currently New York’s current positive test rate is .9 percent.

From Covid act now

A low percentage (0.9%) of COVID tests were positive, which suggests enough widespread, aggressive testing in New York to detect most new cases. Identifying and isolating new cases can help contain COVID without resorting to lockdowns.

Compare to Michigan which is 2.6 percent.

Compare that to Iowa which is 16.4 percent.

The have slowed the spread of virus and it is likely they will soon contain Covid 19.

Low positive rates mean they can identify and isolate new cases without resorting to lockdowns.

Michigan you said is at 3.5... how is taht good for NY as your wrote?

That is not a good number at all.

These people trial and do not quarantine as the law requires. All states with bad infection rates are bad for NY.

Fact is Trump stopped people coming in from China on the west coast in the end of Feb. and didn't stop people coming in from china through the EU on the east coast.
They have tracked most of this mess in the NE states ( NY ) to one woman coming in from Iran through the EU on March 1 and by March 5th there were 22 cases and by March 10th there were 173 cases and by the end of the month there were 75,795 cases
and people on the right keep trying to put all the blame on Como
well again with all the conflicting info coming out of DC and the CDC who knew what to do or what to believe
it was Como who took the lead in the NE states and the NY health dept. that figured out what worked and what didn't
YES!!!!! they did make mistakes ( who wouldn't have ?
seeing there were no examples of what to do and not to do at that point in time)
Como has had the balls to at lease admit he made mistake and has tried to correct them UNLIKE Trump
SO how about giving Como and the Governors of the NE states and the Health workers ( Doctors and nurses ) in those states the proper credit they deserve and not keep tearing them down

As I said the lower the positive test rate the better for the state.

The positive test rate means is the number of persons who out of 100,000 tests test postive.

When’s low number test postive it is easier to contact trace and isolate the positive cases to contain the spread of the virus.

Michigan tests about 40,000 a day , we have our own labs and usually gets the tests back In 48 hours.



We have good contact tracing and in June traced over 180 case to a Rast Lansing Restaurant/bar.

There's movement pattern data and economic data as well. Their economic downturn was impacted by the lack of foreign demand for their exports which would have occurred even if the rest of the world followed Sweden's lead.
