Coronavirus reappears in Chinese woman more than five months after she recovered from initial infection

Close contacts of the Hubei woman have been tested and returned negative coronavirus results

Chinese infectious disease expert and South Korean research suggest re-positive cases are not likely to be infectious

I've posted reports where the antibodies in convalescent patient blood plasma are described as having a short half-life. This patent could be an indicator of that phenomenon. I'm interested in getting some additional info on this as subsequent infections are reported not to be transmissable to others.

One out of 20 million people with Corona. This is scary!

I'm thinking this is rare, generally dead virus particles, and in the perhaps possible case of re-emergence, it is extremely rare.

In any new disease situation like this, there is always patient #1.

The observation tat they can't transmit the disease may be an indication that some critical part of this virus may have changed in some way to render it non-contagious. This virus is a very complex piece of biological machinery so this is a possibitliy.

Well being it was 8 months ago it means that we have something to look forward to in a year. We are up to over 5 Million having test positive so far and the number is probably far higher, right now we do not know what the long term effects are or will be. Lets just say you don't want to get it.

That is interesting. Reminds me of the sailors on the USS Theodore Roosevelt who got re-infected. Fascinating if they are not contagious. It would totally change my outlook on the effectiveness of a vaccine and herd immunity.

While for some it might seem that the pandemic has been going on forever, it's really been but a few short months that meaningful data has been collected. The SARS-CoV-2 virus is its own self, mutations and all, and likening it to other viruses is of value only in very broad contexts. One of the unknowns at this time is the degree of immunity achieved by those who have contracted the disease. We're just beginning to gather useful data on that.

In the US, we now have roughly 1.6% of the population confirmed by testing to have been infected. The actual percent might well be higher. We can surmise, but we don't know.

Neither do we know at what level the US population must have immunity to achieve an Rsub0 value of 1.00.

We do not know when a safe and effective vaccine will be available in sufficient quantity to be available for all those who want it. We do not know whether that vaccine will confer full or partial immunity, nor for how long.

There's all sorts of guesswork going on, and best guesses from those who are experts in the field are, at this time, best guesses.

Regards, stay safe 'n well. Remember the Big 3: masks, had washing and physical distancing.
