What every happened to them! People seemed so in love with hating and criticizing them - and now they're gone!

Who are other controversial figures that are a blast from the past? That everyone festered on with diligence and seemed unable to let them go - but suddenly they're gone.
 
Billy Martin and a certain Yankees owner who just died a few hours ago. Of course, you have to be sports-minded to know this.
