Conservatives out of line on mideast unrest.

The President is not responsible obviously for the making of that movie -- but claiming that is the reason for the outrage is fairly laughable if you really want to understand the region.

He looked bad doing it -- but what he said was correct. Our foreign policy has been a disaster.

What the President says does matter -- no amount of complimenting Islam is going to change any minds over there either.

I can agree we should not let religious nuts take over this country -- but comparing "religious conservatives" to radical terrorists is quite a stretch.

The movie itself it not the reason for the protests. Someone has hyped the movie up in such a way that the protesters are convenced that the US and the Western world is against Islam. It doesn't help that we have had a preacher in Florida wanting to burn Korans and that the religious right is claiming all Muslims are terrorists.
President Obama's foreign policies have not been a disaster. Our reputation around the world has improved because of him and he shines when it comes to foreign policy. I think most of the world would agree with me on this point.
We are not at war with Islam, and there is no reason why the President shouldn't explain that to the world. Bush did the same thing to make sure that tensions over the terrorist attacks wouldn't inflame an already tense situation. I see no reason for Obama to make statements that Islam is our enemy just to please the religious right.
Any religious extreme is bad be it Christian or Islamic. Christians can be and have been just as bloody and ruthess as Muslims, so I don't put anything past radicals be they Christian or Muslim. Lets not forget that the radical right have TV shows and they go on and claim we should kill world leaders and Islam is out to get us all. Just because the CHristian radicals are more passive agressive doesn't make them any less dangerous.

I am getting sick of FOX news trying to say the unrest in the Islamic world is due to weakness in Obama's forein policy. How is it the President is responsible for some film maker making an anti Islamic movie?

Mitt Romney looked like a fool by jumping on Obama before he had all the facts and the lapdogs on FOX look like morons when they try to say the President is always apoligizing for the Bush years. Are they thin skinned or what? What is wrong with saying you are sorry in the first place. I used to say sorry before I punched some bully in the nose. I would say sorry but you brought it on yourself.

The fact is this is a bad situation and it would not have mattered who was in office. The conservatives need to get off their cowboy kick and come back to reality. No matter how tough and John Wayne like the President talks does make a differance to religous fanatics. Conservatives need to stop fishing for outrage. It is making them loook stupid.

Now you all know why we can never let religous conservatives take over in this country. Just look at the Islamic world and see how hierarchy works. Shria law is just old testiment law. You know stoning people for adultry, prostitution, homosexual sex and anything else considered sin. With fanatics anything is possible just look at the abortion doctor murders.

Wouldn't you say it's hypocritical of you to demonize the right and Fox News for using the Middle East attacks to criticize President Obama about foreign policy yet use the same attacks in the Middle East as an opportunity to attack Christians? I actually agree with you about the right attacking President Obama about this particular subject. While I don't agree with the way he has handled Iran, Egypt, Syria, Libya, etc, it is the way the majority of the country would have wanted it handled according to polling. Presidents shouldn't make decisions off polling, however, he has made the decision the majority of the country would want for the most part. That's his job. To reflect the beliefs of the country. Back to the first sentence, comparing OT Christians to Muslims is something that you are doing merely to incite anger. Not for a debate point of any kind.

It's election season so anything that "the other guy" does comes under attack. In America, our campaigns are 100% negative and our leaders or wannabe leaders don't have a clue about anything. They just want to keep (or get) the money, glory and power.

Why can't Obama get these protestors in Tunisia and other countries under control?

Isn't it time that Obama acted presidential and did something to stop these protestors?

For the moment, pretend you are Obama.

What EXACTLY would you do? What orders would you issue and what do you think the outcome would be?

((NOTE - Real question, NO sarcasm))

..hey, if nothing else the issue helped clarify the US presidential race by separating the men from the boys...

What do you suggest he do?

Further explanation requested.

While you're doing that please remember that Obusha is President, running for re-election and Romney is a CEO, attempting to be President. Also, remember how poisoned this whole election is anyway. Romney has been under attack by Gingrich, Santorum, Bachman, Cain and Paul as well as Limbaugh and Hannity. Obusha has no competitor in his party and has the power of the incumbent pen.

I was asking why you want only nice debate. I like the knock down and drag out stuff too. Stupid people need to be put in thier place.

anytime you want debate...

Im not sure how your post is allowed..

and its "their"....the irony almost made me black out..

I am getting sick of FOX news trying to say the unrest in the Islamic world is due to weakness in Obama's forein policy.

i'm not, because i haven't clicked on that channel in years. i can't say i'm surprised that they are blaming it on Obama, but i can say that i care about their take on it as much as i care what Limbaugh has to say about it. the confirmation bias merchants have no intellectual curiosity or objectivity, so they are worthy only of being ignored entirely by those who do.

Would you feel better if it was the majority of foreign media saying Obamas pathetic failure as a foreign policy 'leader' is the culprit? Last I Bild, Salon, and Der Speigel were not affiliated with Fox news. Could it be that if Fox news is saying it AND the rest of the worlds media is saying it that it is the mainstream media that is out of step?

They have to be smart enought to know the diferance from real outrage and manufactured screaming about something nobody had any control over. This is going to cost Romney the election if this continues.

No, they don't. They throw enough spaghetti at each other and see what sticks with the public until the election is done. This has been going on since the first presidential elections.

That is a great question. I wish a reporter or someone would ask Gov Romney or one of these pundits that when they start up about Pres Obama's foreign policy. It's one thing to blame him for the economy, the unemployment rate, etc. At least he can have some what of on influence on that. He also made campaign promises about those subjects. It's another thing to blame him for something people halfway around the world did. I don't think Pres Obama is to blame for those attacks any more than I think that anti-muslim film maker is. Muslims in the Middle East hate us. No two ways about it. And they will look for any reason they can to attack us, demonstrate against us, etc. The thing is, if we committed a Marine Expeditionary Unit to Libya or Egypt, everyone would be screaming about him starting another war. If he sent SEALs in and told us he was doing it, the press would go after him for another leak. If he apologized for the film maker, he'd be weak. So I think he did the only thing he could, just like Pres Bush II would have done. Talk tough, most likely have covert ops underway, engage them diplomatically, and wait it out for a bit to see what happens.

That is what you get when religion runs the show. Just look at midevil Europe and the outrages of the inquizition. Any religion is capible when they have great power. Thank God we have castrated the power of religion in this country in spite of the social conservatives who would like you to believe that Christians are somehow differant.

Are you claiming that American Christians ans Middle eastern Muslims respond to religious affronts in the same way?

Are you claiming that American Christians ans Middle eastern Muslims respond to religious affronts in the same way?

Moral equivalency is prett much a staple liberal argument when it comes to comparing religions and their actions.

Thank you for the coherent and rational response. You're the only one who responded I notice. So much talking and yet nobody (but you) has an answer to my question.

The movie itself it not the reason for the protests.

Agreed, the movie is not the real culprit here.

Someone has hyped the movie up in such a way that the protesters are convenced that the US and the Western world is against Islam. It doesn't help that we have had a preacher in Florida wanting to burn Korans and that the religious right is claiming all Muslims are terrorists.

None of these things changed any opinions.

This is a laughable statement -- please elaborate on how we are so much better off.

The President should not make the statements because it is absurd. The mere fact that any President is coming out with these statements is absurd. The only statement Obama needed to make was to demand that these host nations hold those responsible accountable, and then hold those governments accountable.

Any religious extreme is bad be it Christian or Islamic. Christians can be and have been just as bloody and ruthess as Muslims, so I don't put anything past radicals be they Christian or Muslim. Where is the statement from the President denouncing these Christians? He won't make one, nor do we expect one -- because it would be absurd for him to get involved.

Stewart J. Lawrence: Obama Needs to Run on His Foreign Policy Record
By any reasonable standard, Obama's first-term foreign policy record is nothing short of astounding. On issue after issue, Obama has shown a steady -- indeed, steely -- resolve that has earned him major kudos from foreign policy specialists in both parties

http://in.reuters.com/article/2012/09/13/libya-ambassador-idINL5E8KCM6B20120913"The United States condemns in the strongest terms this outrageous and shocking attack," Obama said, while insisting it would not threaten relations with Libya's new government. "... And make no mistake, we will work with the Libyan government to bring to justice the killers who attacked our people."

1st, don't watch fox news : ). They actually are closer to the truth today, then blaming a video. So, maybe you should check yourself on that one, I think Obama looked the fool and still does on this, the very little we heard from him and his associates seem to blame the video. Do you agree with that?

Then stop watching FOX news. Problem solved.

You have to know the game from both sides. I like FOX when they give both sides like they do on the factor but hate them when they go on Obama bashing forums without giving the other side a voice.

Forgive me if I dont take this analysis as worth much -- if you really want I will go through each claim and refute the majority of it, but its just not worth it.

The Libyan government has stated they told us in advance this would occur, and then stated they dont have the power to actually accomplish this -- so good luck.

Well, refute it if you wish. It's your choice.
I don't recall any report that the Libyan government told the US that someone was going to kill the ambassador or that they don't have the power to help us bring those who killed the Ambassador to justice. I assume this is your opinion.

I wasn't aware that the movie was around last year when the rioting and protest began in Egypt. Most outlets are reporting that it was translated into Arabic and posted online in recent weeks. Maybe the middle east is full of psychics.

The Arab Spring was the effort to get rid of Mubarak.. the video was sent to the Arab world on Sept 6th...just in time for 9-11.

From CBS: A spokesperson at the Interior Ministry in Libya stated, ""We don't have enough power to catch them." The Bengahzai attorney general said the Libyans don't have the expertise or technology to do a proper investigation.

From CNN: Jamal Mabrouk, of the February 17th Brigade, said that he and a battalion commander sat down with U.S. envoys to discuss the economy and security in the country, which has been going through a turbulent transition since the fall of Moammar Gaddafi last year. According to Mabrouk, they told the diplomats that the precarious security situation was not beneficial for international business -- this was three days before the attack, you might think the Ambassador would not have been around with almost no security in this scenario.
